Reggie Torbor? That "little hamstring" that kept him out of Wednesday's practice wasn't enough to keep him sidelined today.
Joey Porter? That nagging right knee problem wasn't enough to earn him an orange undershirt and the requisite handle-with-care treatment.
Vernon Carey? If his back is still bothering him -- and it was enough to get him on Wednesday's injury report as limited in practice -- he was feeling well enough Thursday to work tandem double-team drills that weren't just fierce, they were being filmed at close range.
A little extra viewing at day's end for the Man From New Haven (as Dan Henning calls him)?
Jake Grove, back practicing for the second straight day, was working again as second-team center, getting pushed back at times by backups. Donald Thomas was right there next to him, also second team.
That meant Justin Smiley, Joe Berger and Nate Garner together in the middle of the first-team line. Berger and Ikaika Alama-Francis had a nice little skirmish, with IAF knocking off Berger's helmet and Berger stomping away in apparent anger.
Also spotted this morning:
-- Pat White badly underthrowing Greg Camarillo on a sideline route. I mean the ball bounced twice before it reached Camarillo.
--Jason Allen, working at corner on Camarillo, picking off an underthrown Chad Henne pass on a back-shoulder play. Camarillo came back and beat Allen a little later.
--Ted Ginn Jr. roaring past Evan Oglesby to catch a 40-yard TD from Henne on a streak. Ginn must have thought Chris Johnson was covering him. Last time Ginn got challenged so publicly, he responded with that two-kickoff-return game at the Meadowlands.
--Brian Hartline outfighting Sean Smith for the ball on a curl. With his next start Smith will tie the franchise record for most starts by a rookie corner (Curtis Johnson in 1970, Travis Daniels in 2005), but Smith is still looking for his first regular season pick after grabbing two in the preseason. He's as perplexed as anybody why it's taken so long, especially with Vontae Davis taking the team lead with three picks so far. Smith can't get shut out the whole way, can he?
