  • Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports the Dolphins flew trainer Kevin O’Neill to Indianapolis only to fire him.
Morning take: That sounds about right for the Dolphins. O'Neill screwed up, as shown in the Wells report, but he has a solid reputation otherwise. Miami could have communicated the firing better.

  • Greg Cote of the Miami Herald writes the time is right for the Dolphins to hire Dan Marino.
Morning take: The Dolphins have an image problem. Marino is arguably the most popular player in franchise history and he’s available. So it makes sense. But what would his role be?

Yah hire Marino with no role that sounds about right - LAME

A "neutered" hof qb walking the halls - yah that's making such sense right a bout now

God no, can't stomach that debacle again. Just put his face on ads for the team, other than that just no.

We did that once already, we looked like idiots when he quit.

Hey now. I'm also skeptical of his personnel abilities--as I tend to be for all former players who get promoted to the top without having proved their skill in these areas--but you can't really call it a debacle.

He wasn't there for very long, like a week maybe? He arrived being told he had power to make a difference, but when he arrived he learned he was only used as a figurehead with no real power ... that changed everything. He politely pulled out and didn't say a bad word about the Dolphins. He got deceived and used by the former owner, and he didn't call him out because it would have been harmful to the Dolphins which he loves. We can't, in good conscience, call his tenure a debacle, because he was never allowed to do anything. The only conclusions we can draw are that the former owner/front office acted poorly and Marino handled it gracefully.

Can he evaluate talent? We still don't know and he's never been a scout or capologist, so I can agree with you that him starting at the top is too much of a gamble though.

You guys show some ****ing respect. We are unworthy of Dan The Man's time and attention.

If not Marino (he deserves a second chance wasn't ready for any roll 10 yrs ago), Taylor is on Ross' little committee or even Thomas. Newsome started somewhere its time to link tradition back to this organization.

I find it completely laughable that people are using something that happened over 10 years ago as a reason to not hire him... Really gives me a bit of a chuckle.

Marino quit because he realized he would have to work more than 4 hours on a Sunday. He is not qualified to be in any position in any FO.

I say give him a chance just like the article says. It does not say to anoint him. But see if he has the goods.
If he tries half as hard as he did as a player, he will succeed!

I never thought of Dan as the brightest bulb in the room. But he sure had the biggest heart.
What do we have to lose?

Do you truly know that because Dan told you or are you saying it because that's the most popular line floating around?

Worse answer I have seen. Which doesn't. Make sense since Dan worked more than 4 hrs on Sundays alone! No Dan wanted a position in which he had. A say not just being a face! I for one would love to see Dan involved in some kind of capacity even if it is just to learn for a bigger position ! Which is a lot like Elway came in with Broncos!

Funny. Neither was Elway prior to him becoming VP.

He owned an arena franchise for a number of years...while not of the level of an NFL team it still give him experience in an executive role.
