Mortensen: Manning will not let Colts draft Luck

Let me clarify my post, I meant the Colts should trade Peyton or release him, and I hope we're the ones who get Peyton + draft Barkley/Jones to sit behind him IF and only IF we don't have a shot at Andrew Luck.

imo theres noway we could afford peytons contract at 98 mil we would have to get rid of half our roster just to sign him. i just cant see it . sorry

Manning is not coming here if he is made available. We have no OLine, and are still a bit of a mess. He will want to go to a team where he can start and win right away. More likely if we don't get Luck we could get whoever Manning bumps out......almost a repeat of the Pennington scenario. That could be the WORST thing to happen to us. I really think the Pennington year screwed the whole Parcells plan.....we were never supposed to win more than 4 or 5 games that 1st year, and would have then had better & higher draft picks and probably would be a better team now, and Sparano sitting pretty heading for a playoff spot.

Hmmmm, if you want to think that way about it......in the end, if we get Luck, the Jets may be the real underlying reason  The dominoes all seemed to fall into place once the Jets got Favre

i was listening to wfan mike francesa today, and he was basically saying the same thing. However, it seems a bit strange.

first of all, did peyton actually come out and say this, or is this speculation? im pretty sure right now its speculation and nothing else. until peyton actually says it, its a non issue.

secondly, as people have mentioned, it seems a bit weird because its not like their is any adversity between the mannings and lucks, and they are even friends. If anything, luck would be the one saying he does not want to go to indy because he wants to start right away, not manning saying he does not want luck, especially if they wont force manning out until he is ready to retire.

just like mike francesa was saying today about this, morts story is most likely just speculation, not actual quotes from peyton himself.

seems like Peyton's agent is sending out warnings. too many people saying the same thing so I don't think its speculation.

What on gods green earth makes you think these idiots would draft better with higher picks? Jesus Christ they screwed up the first over all pick! Sparano is a idiot and he most certainly would not be looking at a playoff spot!

Well if Manning is cut, his contract is voided I believe. The Colts still have to carry some of his pro-rated bonus money, but his contract is voided and he then negotiates with whoever he wants too.

Yeah, what am I talking about......you're right Ryan, just forget what I wrote

true but what makes you think he will take ALOT LESS MONEY to come to miami he will explore his options and my bet it wont be in miami .IMHO if we dont some how get Luck than we have got to pull the trigger on Jones or Barkley. plain and simple.

Seeing how terrible the Colts & Dolphins are, Manning doesn't really do either one of them any good at present. They will both suck for the majority of whatever playing time Peyton still has.

If the Colts can draft Luck, they will draft Luck. Romo is the one that should be nervous if they do.

I can see the Colts passing on Luck, if they are presented with an offer they cannot refuse. Much like the Rams I can see the Colts trading down into the top 5 and getting Kalil or one of the top WR. They of course would get a kings ransom of picks in return.

I'm not saying that this is a definite going to happen, but there is a possibility if a team like the browns or dolphins are willing to give up an entire draft or plethora of picks (multiple 1st rounders).

I don't think the Colts have interest in any other QB aside from Luck. If they finish #2 they will try to trade up or take a LT or WR IMO.

Chris Mortensen just said that Peyton Manning will not allow the drafting of Andrew Luck in Indianapolis and will demand to be traded or released if that happens. Phil Simms also said there is no way Peyton Manning will want to mentor Luck and he doesn't want him on the Colts roster.

I predicted this exact same thing would be the case more than a month ago.

There is no one on Earth who wants Luck in Indianapolis less than Manning. The way his contract is written it gives him an out, also.

If it's physically possible for him to get himself on the field, he'll do it. If Polian is smart he'll put Manning on IR right now, but Manning just has too much power in that organization. My understanding is he's working on his rehab 73 hours a day. Eli even said that he and Peyton aren't talking nearly as much in a normal year because Peyton is spending so much time in rehab.

I've said it before, the only way the Colts draft Luck is by cutting ties with Manning. And cutting ties with Manning would be such a huge slap in the face to the franchise's best player.

There is just no way the colts invest all their money on 2 QBs. They just gave Manning a huge contract and if they draft #1, they will be giving a huge contract to another QB who will sit on the bench for a few years?

Not going to happen.

The Colts will be tempted to part ways, as Manning has only about 3 good years, if that, left in him.

But for that same reason, we want Luck and not Manning who would become another stop gap QB with an injury waiting to happen.

I will take Luck or Manning. Not an issue.
