Mortensen joined Buck and Kingcade on 680 the fan here in Atalnta. I caught the last 5 minutes. 3 quick points he made stuck out me me:

"I didn't see Mccaron an Kathryn Webb making out on TV"
"Jeff Fisher is very close with the league office"
"If the league actually cares about player development they will move the draft back to April"

Interesting as I agree on all three points he was main

I agree with him. May draft sucks. You wanna be gay or straight, fine, but we don't all need to know about it. I think the Rams picked Sam because he was their BPA not because hes gay..

I wouldn't want to see McCarron kiss Katherine Webb either. If they had a camera on her touching herself that's different. Move the draft back to April please.

I have nothing against sam but he is a Ram because Fisher is one of the biggest league guys in the NFL and sits on countless commitees, this was my very first thought when I heard the pick

I'm perfectly aroused watching Katherine Webb maul a hamburger.

Draft in May was a bad move.

Glad we didn't hire Jeff Fisher.

I've had gay friends since I was a teenager, as such the sight of two men kissing doesn't particularly bother and/or shock me, I've seen it before and I'll see it again I'm sure - however I can't think of a single time I've seen a full on make out session at the NFL draft between any couple and it most certainly isn't the appropriate time or place (I'm basing this on what I've read happened, as I changed channel after the Phins were finished drafting like I do every year)

Don't really care if Fisher's friendships and/or politics were taken into account with drafting Michael Sam, that's up to him and his organization if they feel he was worth the pick

The draft belongs in April, this May bull**** sucks

Kroenke is already buying suiitable land in LA for when he doesn't get a sweetheart deal from St L. He needs a quid pro quo agreement to move the team

Sam was drafted with a relatively worthless televised throw-away compensatory pick instead of being signed more anonymously in the flurry of UFA activity

Sam was drafted by what's closest to his hometown team and accepting university fans

Goodell and the NFL's feet are rightfully being held to the fire as racist for refusing to budge on changing the Redskins name. He needed something to blunt that image and deflect attention away from this real issue

Connect the dots - -

True. Do you think Sam and his boyfriend pre-planned this and made sure there would be lots of media there to make sure they got lots of shock value?? That's what it looked like to me.

I have a long post elsewhere on this contrived charade, but part of the Cliff Notes version is that when news networks defend their right to falsify the news, reality shows are scripted and sports debaters admit they are assigned sides to take to argue passionately, to naively think that the ESPN producers didn't have a heads up and not spent the day discussing with Sam and his BF how they might react, especially if (selfishly for the network's media glare) Sam wanted to make an in your face statement, then I've got a shiny Bridge spanning NY's East River I can sacrifice cheaply.

Regarding the annotated verson of the reasons why this happened like it did, see my post several ones up.

The ESPN hosts were shocked as the Michael Sam situation played out. Kiper and McShay were white as sheets. You could see the tension in their faces, particularly Kiper. Wingo handled it competently but lacked a memorable summation. He certainly had that opportunity. It could have been famous if he'd done it superbly, with big picture focus while also confident enough to mention the over the top physical aspect.

Only Polian looked relaxed.

I'm convinced ESPN had no idea what would happen, other than they would be tipped when/if Sam were picked. To believe it was scripted is the same laughably ignorant conspiratorial mindset that produced the insistence that Jonathan Martin was aiming for a lawsuit, since it's all about the money.

Are people still talking about thisÉ Don Jones said was he was thinking and when he says things while employed by the dolphins they can take action against him as they see fit. You can say to the guy your on TV you cant kiss your boyfriend, i saw many players kiss their girlfriends while watching the first round before they left the green room.

Do i care he gave his boyfriend a kiss? no.
Was what jones said inappropriate and offensive? yes but everyone is entitled their opinion.
Do i agree with him being punished to the extent he was? not at all.

I think Jones may have cost him a spot on this team, they need to open up roster spots for guys like Hazel, Fede, and any camp standouts and getting on the bad side of the new GM was not a good way to lock up a roster spot.

This draft was highest rated draft ever in the TV ratings. Given that, I not only expect the draft to stay in May, but don't put it past Goodell to extend it to Sunday. I hate the wait and think it robs rookies of valuable time to learn the playbook and get ready for the season. But a buck is a buck and the NFL knows how to get them in every way possible.
