Most dissapointing aspect of yesterday's game

By far, what dissappointed me most about yesterday's game was the defense at the end. I hated to think it, but they did what they have been famous for for a while now....being stifling...almost dominant the entire game and when they are needed most, they wilt like a daisy. I hated watching it!!

Here's where I think the coaching staff messed up a bit also...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but....If one is facing a QB with obvious arm problems such as Chad yesterday, don't you man up on the WRs and force that QB to try and throw over the top? The Fin's DBs were constantly giving 10-12 yard cushions and giving Chad the routes that he could actually throw...the short-intermediate stuff. On the Jet's last scoring drive, we have them facing a 2nd and 20 I believe...They proceeded to complete a 13 yard pass and then another for a bit longer...both IN FRONT of the DB. Although I think on one of them the DB did slip...but none the less...was giving too much cushion.

Thoughts??
 
actually something I have to agree with. The defense did ok, however they didn't stop them on that last drive for a touchdown. Also they didn't create a turnover.
 
you are right, but it wll probably be like this all year as we grow, i am happy with good effort and close games off a 4-12 year, maybe we get to the post season maybe not
 
Yeah but there were an awful lot of short drives by the offense yesterday, which tires the defense in a hurry. I remember one particular three-and-out drive in the 3rd or 4th that ended with an incompletion to McMike, and I was thinking BEFORE the drive started that we needed to keep the ball a while to rest the D. The D had just stopped the Jets and forced a punt, which kept us in the game, and we went 3 and out. That also demoralizes the D mentally -- you just turned it up and stopped them so your offense can have the ball, and then your offense does nothing with it.
 
Good post. But to be fair with our d (that Line is looking amazing right now) the jets had the ball way more time, so they probably got pretty darn tired. We need that line to start playing a little better than decent.

You are right about the 10-12 yards by coverage, we were giving chad too many short yards, and what is worse, not tackling, so those yards became 20-30 yards and it was too painful.... Dang I hope next week is better.
 
That's exactly what I was thinking. The offense did it's job and put it in the endzone and then we were only down by three points. Then I watched them march down the field on our defense and score a touchdown and that's when we lost the game.

I understand about them getting tired...but dam...they must get tired an aweful lot as they have been doing this type of stuff for a while...Saban says he doesn't have a prevent defense, but that defense at the end looked pretty timid to me.

Also, the mental mistakes MUST be resolved...and what the heck is up with JT and all these offsides already??

I agree. I think our defense played a decent to good game in the first half (not awesome) and then wilted in the last quater. Some of that has to do with the lack of big time talent in the secondary and some with the newness of the defensive schemes. I still think our defense will be in the top ten by the end of the year.
 
the worst was the 3rd down conversions we gave up... that drive it was a 3rd and 12 and we blitzed and didn't get through and madison got beat on an out pattern, that whole drive was out patterns and we kept giving it to them, it was crazy.. most of them in front of howard :fire:
