as we head towards wat hopefully will finish as one of the most memorable seasons in fins history , if not the most, it got me thinking about how this decade there have been so many seasons where we had so much potential but failed to do anything. so i ask the question, since 2000, which season has been the most dissappointing season to you guys and why? for me it was the 2002 season. we had the league leading sack getter, and the top running back, and a 2 game lead with 2 games to go, and we utterly collapsed. those 2 games vs minn and the last game vs the pats where we blew a big lead with 4 minutes to go, it still hurts me till today. i felt that if we made the playoffs, we couldve been legitimate superbowl contenders that season.

Yeah but i CAN'T forget that 2002 year. I can't forget how we went to Minnesota on a Saturday and Gary Anderson who probably never kicked a 50 yarder in his life kicked a 50 yarder. I can't forget how the next week we went to New England, had a complete fourth quarter meltdown, kicked the ball out of bounds in OT and let Adam Vinateri kick us out of the playoffs. Especially when i watched the Packers-Jets game and saw 70,000 Jets fans cheering that the Dolphins had lost as they showed it on the video board.

I can't forget that Ricky had had a fantastic season, and Jason Taylor too and that we had the NUMBER ONE SEED IN THE AFC IN OUR REACH. All we had to do was win those final two games and finish 11-5 ahead of the Raiders who we had beaten that year.

So i'll say that 4-12 disaster in 2004.

ya but the 2004 season the thing for me is that we had talent, but on that dark day in 2004, i think july 25th correct me if im wrong, that day made me feel like ****, and almost everyone knew that after that we werent going to be good, so it wasnt as devestating. 2002 was just to hard to swallow, and when we lost to the pats, its like u knew that there was no way in hell the jets were losing to the packers. it sunk in that i was meant to be.

That's an easy question. Last season....I watched every single game, even though it became unbearable at times...we lost most of the games in the same heartbreaking fashion. Most forgettable? Yes. As far as I'm concerned, the 2007 NFL season has already been erased from my memory, Men In Black style.

For me, the seasons you guys are talking about were anything but "forgettable". I'd forget them if I could, but they were each painful in their own way.

Even 2004 was unforgettable because it was the year that everything came crashing down with this franchise. We had somehow gotten by with years of horrible drafting and poor decisions, but had still managed to get by until the Ricky retirement sent everything into a spiral.

Since then, we haven't really recovered to put ourselves back in the premier franchise category. We did go 9-7 in Saban's first year, but our inept play during most of that year kept us from having a legitimate shot at the playoffs in the second half, despite a good run.

For me, 2006 would have to be it. A year where we were supposed to be good but we just fell completely flat. Our 9-7 season and the mystique of Saban lead many to believe that we were better than we were, but our lackluster play that year showed us for what both our team and Saban really were: crappy.

sorry guys i may have phrased the question wrong, i meant most devestating season, like the most heartbreak involved if u can pik one.

ya sabans first season was a weird year. we started off with the incredible win vs denver, then 2 weeks later won another incredible game vs carolina with lance schulters having that big int to get us into fg range to win the game. then after r bye, it seemed like we just fell flat and collapsed as we lost 6 of the next 7. then we were on the verge of losing 7 of 8 until that comeback vs the bills which is one of the most memorable comebacks we have had in recent years. i remeber going crazy when chambers made that catch on 4th and goal. that game got us on a 6 gm streak to end it, and then with all the momentum going into 06, we get culpepper and i dnt want to talk about the rest.

Oh, in that case, I would have to choose from a three year period (1992-94). '92 we HOSTED the AFC Championship game against the Bills, who shouldn't have even been there, as they pulled the wild card game out of their *** against the Oilers...and we got destroyed by Buffalo in the game to get to the Super Bowl......'93, we had possibly the best team Miami has had since I've been following them (1988, or so). We were 5-2 and clicking on all cylinders, but Marino tore his ACL in the 8th game at Cleveland. Scott Mitchell filled in, we lost the last five games of the season after starting 7-2 and missed the playoffs.

But my choice would be 1994. We had another GREAT team and had a 21-3 lead at San Diego in the Divisional round of the playoffs. They come back to take the lead with under a minute left, but Danny drives us into field goal range, only to see Stoyonovich shank the kick...we lose by one (Mainly because of that B.S. non-fumble call on Natrone Bleeping Means. I felt like had we won that game, we would have beat Pittsburgh in the AFC Championship. That was Dan's last TRUE chance to win the Super Bowl.

To quote Darius Rucker (A.K.A. Hootie): "The Dolphins make me cry"

ya those years were rlly tough, especially that loss to the chargers, that was devestating as can be no doubt about it. but in the time period from 2000-2007, id say the 2002 bc we had it in r hands, 2 game lead to games to go, and lost 2 games in a row that one was more devestating then the next one it made me sick to my stomach and still hurts till today. how we didnt get there with the league leader in sacks, and top rusher, i cant comprehend. if we get in, i think we win the superbowl that year.

If we're talking this decade then definitely 2002, im from nyc so it was doubly painful for me having to put up with all the jets hype after they crushed the packers to win the division. Just a nightmare day all around. There really hasnt been any huge late season december games since that game, maybe the monday niter against the eagles in '03. Although you said they were legit super bowl contenders in '02 I have to disagree, no team with Fiedler as your qb is a legit super bowl contender. WOuld have won their 1st round game though against the Colts, Ricky was unstoppable that year

But that loss doesnt come close to the heartbreak of the '94 playoff loss to the chargers, easily the most devastating loss ive had to deal with since ive been a dolphin fan (early 90s). Id love to ask Marino what his most devastating loss is, other than the super bowl thats gotta be up there

ya same im also from the ny area in long island so it hurt. when i mean like most like heartbreaking seasons, ya i agree in this decade so far 2002 was really the only one, and also 2003 was kinda frustrating because of r 10-6 record and missing out on the playoffs. but just in general this decade we have dealt with so many tough seasons besides the 2 just mentioned, like 2004 we had so much potentional till ricky suddenly retired and shattered r season hopes, then 06 with getting culpepper we were considered pre season as legitimate sb contenders and that turned out to be a disaster year besides for that little run we made with joey harrington, and then 07 we were dealt with the worst season in franchise history.so through all those seasons there r so many to pik as being the most frustrating heartbreaking or devestating due to the potentional and the wat ifs that couldve been.

I'm with you, That playoff loss to the chargers in '94 was heartbreaking!. I kind of hate the chargers ever since. That was the last time the beat us and we've beaten them 7 times in a row now but It would take other 7 W in a row to heal the pain :boohoo:
