Giants- Three (00, 90, and 86). Defensive avg rank points allowed in all 3 seasons was # 2. Games in seasons allowing 21+ ppg was 7 (record was 3-4).

It seems that total points allowed in season has a rational excuse for how good is a defensive unit. But, IMO,a great defense can be defined as, how many games can you hold a team to less than 3 TD's. Usually a good defensive team will keep those games to a minimum. This will help an average scoring team to win more games.

What I see in this data is that a defensive unit has to limit itself to give no more than 6 games of 21+ points in the season, and a ranking of around # 7, to make it to the big dance.

I know that there will be other opinions about this data, So please add to them....
