Most memorable single play in Dolphin history?

I'll just do 2 posts for the price of 1 here. I was in the stands that day too and I couldn't believe how quiet it was. EVERYONE after that game thought that season was over. You know the rest.

I can't believe Jake Scott's INT in the 1971 AFC title game has not even been mentioned.

Dick Anderson, not Jake Scott. One of the great moments in the history of the Orange Bowl. It cemented our first Super Bowl berth. Hankies and toppled Colts everywhere. You couldn't hear one word from the person next to you.

I realize that recency always dominates lists like this. But it's laughable that we care about insignificant plays from insignificant eras of the franchise, as opposed to truly defining moments from the early '70s. For example, let's say the Miami Heat lose Lebron, lose Pat Riley, and become irrelevant for the next 3 decades. Are we really going to be sitting here in 2044, naming great plays from a losing or mediocre season as the most memorable moments in franchise history, as opposed to something from the Big 3 era, or that Wade/Shaq title year? It would be pathetic but I suppose it's possible.

I think you guys posted some great ones. For me the first that came to mind was the fake spike. One other thing about the fake spike was how deflating it was to the jets. I think they lost all but 4 of their next 36 games or so, not that they were going to win much anyway at that point. I'm saying as a play, not as a big game we won...in my opinion...hopefully my opinion is not too pathetic.

I feel u... for me that is one moment I will never forget.... my whole family left the tv end of the fourth quarter to go eat... im the only one that stayed to watch it.I ran back and screamed at them and they didnt beleive me... they all ran back to the tv to watch the replay. It was great. I was like 10

Lamar Smith's 17 yard run in overtime to beat the Colts in the year 2000 wild-card playoffs.
This one is mine.

I had literally, seconds before, said; "I would love to see a long run to just stick it in and finish them."
He broke it, and my buddy, who was watching the game half a country away from me just started screaming.
We both screamed at each other for about 30 seconds. lol. Great moment.

mark clayton making that catch ON HIS BACK sliding down the snow covered field in chicago either 91 or 92.

one that doesnt get a lot of mention is JOE AURE'S run for a td on the opening kickoff of the miami dolphins 1st ever game.

not many teams out there that can say their teams 1st play EVER was a touch down.

clayton dragging 4 jets itno the endzone starting from about 20 yds out. clayton was and INCREDIBLE athlete and if football would have been the center piece of his life, he would own all the major wr records. he hated to practice, [he and shula had no love for each other at all] but he knew EVERY PLAY in the phone book size dolphins playbook AND the assignments of EVERY player for each play. marino and other players refered to him MANY TIMES on the field. even coaches in meetings sometimes would ask him things or to verify. in his senior year of college, he jumped over a ping pong table LENGTH WISE!!

he was a real enigma. clayton and the jets corner JAMES HASTY hated each other with a passion. hasty was rodney harrison before there was a rodney harrison. so all week, hasty had been at the top of his mouth game in the press saying how he was going to knock clayton out of the game. he wouldnt be making one catch, etc... . well, clayton was all over him and had caught several passes and if i remember right, already had a td. hasty isnt pleased, clayton is in his head and there has already been penalties handed out.

so marino has the team down to about the 40 yd line and he hits clayton over the middle where hasty crashes him HARD but clayton has the ball and wont go down with hasty hanging on for dear life! then another jet comes in and another...... and clayton is dragging them........, all the way to the end zone!!

that is probably my favorite play in finz history and another that doesnt get mentioned a lot.

great post! the catch he made in Chicago was one of my favorite childhood football memories. the other play your referring to, I would love it if you were able to put a date to that game as I don't recall it...

Super Bowl VII, the sack by stanfill and denherder to end the game and give Miami the incredible perfect season.
I'll never forget that feeling when the game finally ended.
Man that was a long time ago.

How about that muffed punt (or was it a kick) that blew the shutout? That had to have been pretty scary. I was only 4 then.
