Since we're close to the opening of camp, I thought I'd throw something out to stir the memories....What is your most memorable training camp moment. It could be an auto graph you snagged, something cool you bought at the camp store, or a play you saw. Here are my candidates.....

Most memorable moment.....meeting Randy Mueller in front of the training facility and getting a picture with him (I actually asked him what it was like to work with Saban and he said "Interesting"....Wonder if he was hoping he'd leave when I asked that)

Most memorable item bought.....tie--1997 Game worn Gene Atkins jersey (for 40 bucks), still one of my favorite game jerseys that I own. 2003. Only 6 days before he retired, I bought a Ricky Williams game jersey on sale for $150.00 (Only had Williams on the back, didn't have the "R" before it). Still have it, actually fits quite well.

Most memorable play....It isn't really a play, but something neat I saw in 1995. Marino was standing around firing 20 to 30 yard passes from behind his back. Later got it on video from the local affiliate in So. Fla.

Ah Training Camp.........It's great!

I WILL tell you guyus there has been some great stories about training camp . remember last year when some rookie reported that saban allowed some guys to bring in some strippers . ha,ha that was very funny.
but my favorite story is when dave was the coach and lamar thomas and alonzo mayes a te who was hurt alot; were caught racing two golf carts across the pracice field and the te coach pat jones chewd both guys out and while alonzo was looking at the coach he dove his cart into a table and he spilled gaterade all over the place and he almost ran over wanny.:sidelol:

another story was when a storm came through and the qbs were wanting to go inside but wanny said" lest run these 6 plays first. and then lightnig struck a pole or something and feidler, quinn and another qb got spooked and ran over the mike shula and dave and quinn knocked dave off his feet and landed flat on his back and then it rained cats and dogs and randy mcmicheal ran over and said " hey coach what are you doing laying on the ground a typhone is coming"; this is no time for shinaigans ." pat jones walked over and told randy " dont just stand there help the man up or you will be playing arena league football" and randy turned and told zach and chirs to help this man up yaa. and pat told randy" i told you to help him up "

anyways dave said" what did i do to desrve this" then it really came down hard and the qbs outran the runningbacks to the locker room .:sidelol:

I've never been to one so my most memorable TC moment is the only one I and probably most can remember ... Saban making Manny Wright cry on national TV>

Watching the fins and tampa bay scrimmage in Orlando and seeing #26 blowing it up... I looked down at my player sheet they handed out and saw that it was Lamar Smith. At that point I knew we had a good running back. Remembering what a jerk Warren Sapp was too, we could hear him talk he is a true pos.
At the end of that season I was at the wild card game and saw Lamar carry 3 guys into the end zone, I thought the stadium was going to fall down!
After that game the party went on for another hour or two, some guy was running down a line of parked cars jumping from hood to hood. Thats when I told myself I'd never park near the stadium.

Definitely Manny Wright for me. I've never been to a practice, but that was just hysterical. To think, as a grown man, playing the most physically, emotionally, and mentally demanding game in the world and a coach makes you cry?? Hilarious.

As far as Lamar Smith goes....pure grit and toughness. I loved the guy. He didn't have the flash, but he just was tough as nails. I really enjoyed rooting for him and watching him play. I'd take 53 Lamar Smith's over 53 Ricky Williams' all day long.

I wish I could have got a Ricky Williams jersey for 150 bucks! Awesome thread, thanks for sharing those stories....this is one of the reasons I love this website!

Don Shula praising Dan Marnio his rookie year in training camp to the media!
