most needed upgrades in order

If PARCELLS was right in saying "you are what your record says you are", then MOORE's a top 12 QB in the NFL. Period. But if any of you want to go farther, it's easy: MOORE had no preseason, got "back-up QB's reps" until HENNE went down, and had to deal w/COLUMBO-CAREY and the lingering stench of PARCELLSBALL, &c.

FLYNN never had to deal w/THAT, did he? Just excellent Coaching, excellent "weapons", excellent O-Line, etc.. I wonder how well FLYNN would have done in MIAMI the last 3 years? I wonder how well MOORE would've done in GB? After all, coaching matters, and as long as football's a team game, who your teammates are matters, too...BIGTIME.

So, I'm wary of FLYNN because he's never faced what he would have faced here the last 3 years, and there's "insufficient data" on him anyway. As to MANNING, he's an "all or nothing" situation. If he's 100%, fine, go for it: anything less, forget it.

MIAMI i/m/o would have been a playoffs team this year if it had ANYONE but COLUMBO playing RT. COLUMBO was a beast coming out of BC. But 6 serious leg injuries have made him a ghost of what he was. No wonder he was rated the worst starting T in football. He singlehandedly/almost singlehandedly cost MIAMI 5 games last year that I can remember. And since HOUSTON and SD beat us by 6, it might have been MORE.

I would start F/A by drafting a topshelf G. Do whatever it takes, just get one. I'd also go after MEACHEM as a WR and that FS from CINCINATTI (d-r his name), who i/m/o played the position well. That's about it for F/A, really...unless either MANNING's 110% healed and his old self, or FLYNN gets the STRONGEST possible testimonial from Coach PHILBIN. If neither, I'd look for WEEDEN in the 2nd Round. Any and all combinations of the above are doable, by simply doing what should be done. E.G. #1, signing SOLIAI to a long-term deal. It'd have to be better than WILFORK's contract (5 Years, $40 Million w/$18 Million as a "signing bonus" and $25 Million guaranteed), but that's easy: and it should save $2-2.5 Million in capspace. E.G. #2, cut BELL. He gets 6.2 Million this season, and he can't cover his a** anymore: the N.E. TEs LOVE HIM! Cutting him would save $4.3 Million. There are lots of other cuts and restructures as well. But since MIAMI was $9 Million under the "cap" last season, and the "cap" is going up this season, I figure that MIAMI would have c.$18 Million in "caproom w/o doing ANYTHING else. ALL THAT MIAMI HAS TO DO is spend its "cap" money wisely, and do well in the Draft again, to seriously contend.

1) QB - this one improvement would improve the entire offense and most dramatically improve the entire team
2) DE/OLB - a pass rusher is very much needed, whether we play a 3-4 or 4-3
3) TE - The good teams are getting more out of this position
4) Safety - we need a new SS and FS
5) WR- Deep threat and YAC need to improve
6) CB - Smith is not a starting caliber CB
7) OL - RG & RT, protecting th A gap is a priority Philbin mentioned in his opening remarks

Sign Matt Flynn (QB), draft Coples (DE) in 1st round, draft Dwayne Allen(TE) in 2nd round, sign LaRon Landry (SS) and Reggie Nelson(FS). Sign Carl Nicks (G). Re-sign Soliai and Merling.

In order to free up the necessary cap room we'll need to let Langford, Carey and Bell go.

no

haha. No I didn't do insanity. Bulking right now actually. Just put it there to represent some of the insane comments that I see on a daily basis.......Well Moore was #12 as far as QB ratings go, and that was with a crap line and no off season or first team snaps and a new system. He was very solid. You can't say the same for Columbo and the rest of the previously named turds. In other words, Moore was better at his position than they were at theirs.

Very solid QBs have wins against teams that have winning records
Moore does not...Not ONE win against a team that ended with a winning record

I'm not referring to depth players. I'm asking what starting positions in order do you think would be the biggest upgrades over what we currently have?

my opinion=

1. Offensive Right Tackle...I think we become a whole lot better even with an average right tackle
2. Safety...If we keep Bell our starters will still be below average. If Bell leaves we will have the worst tandem in the NFL.
3. Defensive End...Even more so if we switch to a 4-3. We need a pass rusher on the other side. Super bowl teams hit the QB. End of story
4. Tight End...Fasano is ok but we need a playmaker. New England has 2. It works
5. Running Back...While Bush had a good year he is also injury prone and Thomas is still pretty unproven. In today's NFL good teams have 2 starting RB's.

For the record I know a lot of you will think I'm crazy for not putting the QB position in the top 5. While I think an upgrade at QB would be great....I think that Moore is top 15 or better while guys like Columbo, Misi, Fasano, Thomas, Jones are not. Therefor making them bigger upgrades/bigger improvements. Watcha think fellas?

wrong first need is QB .

other than the obvious qb.

TE
WR
.
.
FS (Jones will move to SS)
.
OT
OG
CB2

Skill positions are much more important than line help, and that is what the first rounder should be used on. No te worth it, so second receiver would be my best bet. And its a huge need as Hartline is nothing more than system garbage.

We need a safety and cb2, but that could be completed in one move- sign a starting quality cb, and move Sean Smith to fs where I think he will shine. He is not a good cb2, but could be special at fs.

I would imagine that once the coaching staff is in place and they decide the offensive and defensive schemes they want to run, they'll go over the roster and decide what positions they will upgrade. The question is will the upgrades come from Free Agency, the Draft, or from a player already on the roster. I think the owner and GM have made it pretty clear they want to upgrade the QB position, just falling short of saying it was there first priority. Don't get me wrong, I respect what Matt Moore accomplished this season given a rough set of circumstances, but I would be hard pressed to ever think Matt Moore can become an elite francise type QB. Since I'm not sold on Flynn or RG3, I guess that leaves Manning, but I hope the front office still takes a QB early in this draft.

Not sure why no one is grasping what I wrote, maybe I didn't translate it correctly....I'm not asking what signing would help our team the most. Not saying QB isn't the most important. Not sure why anyone is thinking that. I am just talking about a position by position basis. We are weaker at right offensive tackle than we are at any other postion. That's pretty much a fact. Is QB more important than OT......YES of course it is. Not the point of the thread though. On a position by position basis QB is not one of the largest needs due to Matt Moore being average or better where as Columbo is awful. There for making it a bigger upgrade despite the obvious fact that QB is the most important position.

New here and first post but the RIGHT side of our offensive line last year was pretty bad.

I think what you are missing is the fact that by adding a better QB, the OL, WR, RB and TE play will all dramatically improve. Adding a RT will not improve all those other areas to the same extent.

not so sure about that it can be mae an arguement either way because neither is good enough to go anywhere , but imo it starts with QB see what happen to indy a playoff team with manning and a 2 win team without him so yeah even with columbo imo QB is STILL THE #1 OPPSION for us and is needed as a bigger upgrade.............

true VERY TRUE...........

Nothing else is as important as finding your franchise QB.

Nothing.
