Most overrated player ever!

Neither one of you must have seen Namath play. He dueled Johnny Unitas toe to toe, and had that "quick release" everyone bows to Marino for before Marino. Toward the end, he was a mess, but that was with two bad knees before modern surgery could keep you patched up better.

Now, over rated - Drew Bledsoe, Warren Sapp, Brian Urlacher, Matt Hasselbeck, Chad Pennington among a few modern players. Franco Harris always struck me as over-rated taking the sideline out instead of finishing off his runs.
i definitely needed to see hasselback's name to remember him. yeah, he be over-rated. good job father.

Do not agree.. Montana was a good QB in a great system. That same system made Elvis & Bono look great and gave them starting positions on other teams because of it. Ryan Leaf could have strived in that system.
elvis and bono ha. kinda queer and odd. montana had something that marino didnt have much of ....sims had it (phil that is) and that most QB's today dont have: brains. a scientific approach towards the game.maybe peyton.

I believe Bill Walsh said it best. "Montana was the product of a system. Marino was the system."

Edit: How else do you explain all the quarterbacks they have had? I don't think any franchise is that lucky to get that many good qb's. Every qb above Marino in lifetime rating is from a west coast offense. Marino had to earn his not just pass it off and depend on his receivers to get YAC.
so maybe he was mishandled / misused? allowing him to become all instead of a part of what should of been but what never became a superbowl winner?

Joe namath had two seasons with more TD's than interceptions. Actually had 47 more picks than Td's. Not to mentions his completion percentage was 50 %.He is the poster child for overrated.

Most overrated easily Ray Lewis of course he is a great player but people act like he is this great leader that just wills his team to victory like the defense has no other talented players. I just think its an example of another player that talks alot of smack and they give the one player all the credit for the team playing good defense.

Although I could easily agree on player not currently in NFL that was most overrated being JOe Namath. Probably only guy in hall of fame with more interceptions than Td's. If a QB or other player of prominance is on a Super Bowl team they always seem to get quite overrated plus his guarantee in the Super Bowl where a player has a bout a 50% chance of being right and we never remember the predictions that don't come true. I mean if the Jets lost would we think he sucked just because of the prediction.

I consider Ray Lewis and Jamal Lewis scumbags regardless of what they do on the football field. Throw in Deion Sanders and you see why I hate the Ravens almost as much as our divison rivals.

Cmon now it was Ray's tremendous leadership skills that helped his friends Reginald Oakley and Joeseph Sweetney to not get convicted of anything.

Look, I'm not gonna get in a pi$$ing match with you.

Here are the facts:

1.) That type of response was unecessary.
2.) It is not up to you or anyone else to decide what threads do or do not have validity.
3.) If you feel a thread is not valid, please just don't post in it. Don't ruin it for others by being nasty.
4.) If you feel the need to Deputize yourself as the FinHeaven Thread Validity Police, then contact a MOD and ask how to become one. Until then, try expressing an opinion, if you have one, instead of what you just did.

That's it. Welcome to my ignore list. You can crack back all you want, I won't be listening (reading).

Thanks.

You posted that a HOF QB with years of consistent play at high levels, plus Super Bowl notches in his belt as your vote for "most overrated player ever". You can't get mad at someone for pointing out that this opinion is in fact absurd.

Yes, Montana had a great supporting cast around him but if you watched his games you'd see that he more than carried his own weight.

Slightly overrated because of the team he was on, yes....
Most overrated player ever....... not even close.

I could'nt agree more.
The only reason he is heralded as such a super hero is because of his mouth. If he hadn't said his "guarantee" he would have been as ignored as Trent Dilfer is when talking about the Ravens Super Bowl win.

Marcus Allen.

He had one MONSTER season, a memorable game/run in the Super Bowl and a knack for scoring one yard TD's. In other words, hes a combination of Barry Foster, Timmy Smith and Leroy Hoard (ouch). Sure, he had a very nice career, but it doesnt make you a HOFer. He only had 3 thousand yard seasons, and NONE In the last 12 years of his career. To his credit, he was an extremely versatile back that could run or receive, but his major accomplishments can be condensed into a very short 2-3 year window.

Why is Allen in the HOF? Because he was a recognizable celebrity that played for some glorious football teams - the Raiders and USC - in the 80's. But he wasnt even the most talented RB on his own team for much of his career.

Good points on Allen although I guees they gave based on longevity.

Agreed. Moreover, Palmiero is a relative nobody in the world of Sports Celebrity. Marcus Allen was on TV shows, movies, ads, etc.
