Mountain West wants an Auto-Bid to BCS

top to bottom it's not a bad conference. Utah, TCU, and BYU can compete with anybody in the country. Colorado State is gonna get better, New Mexico is traditionally a solid program, as his San Diego State (which has underachieved in recent years).

Why not, out of all the "mid major" conferences, they have the best schools. Each program is committed to their football teams, and have top notch facilities.

I can't understand why SDSU can't recruit at all. It's in San Diego, one of the best cities in the US, they play in an NFL stadium, the women there are knockouts...and it's in San Diego!

Strange. They do have a good basketball team though.

Might as well just give it to them...

Then when the WAC starts pissing and moaning about the MWC getting an automatic BCS bid...give it to the WAC too..

Then the MAC can follow suit...followed by the Sun Belt Conference...and if Notre Dame can win 7 games...we'll give them one too...

We'll just have 10 meaningless BCS games instead of 4...

No.

I am not a fan of this. There are still too many weak teams in that conference and you can say that this team and that team will get better or is on the rise, but the truth is, no one really knows. If the rest of the conference stays below average, Utah and BYU will dominate it year in and year out, get into the title game and get trounced by Florida, USC, Oklahoma, and Texas.

Let's look at what we DO know.

A. Utah and BYU are legit every year.

B. The Pac 10 is a weak conference and at the end of the year, USC's 1 loss hurts them—and it should.

However, Florida and Oklahoma both lost 1 game and in the end, it didn't hurt them as bad because they play a conference championship. Why not realign the Pac 10 by inviting BYU and Utah the same way the ACC did with Miami, Virginia Tech, and Boston College. Now, the Pac 10 can send two teams to BCS bowls. USC goes to the title game, and possibly Oregon or Oregon State to the Rose Bowl. It makes for better football. The Big 10 and the Pac 10 NEED to have 12 teams and a conference championship games. It makes for better football.

Anyone else think that this makes perfect sense?

well a playoff system will solve all of this!!!!

Top to bottom, it's not the most impressive conference. UU, BYU, and TCU are the best teams in there. But, the rest of the league is pretty bad. UNM and CSU are solid, but UNLV, Wyoming, Air Force, and SDSU are terrible.

Actually there are 33 meaningless bowl games and 1 bowl game filled with questions, debates and overhype.

I've been at UNM since 2001. Outside of a few Emerald Bowl appearances in that time, they have been pretty average. I'm personally hoping they don't. UNM has become way too concerned with trying to emulate the success of BYU and Utah, pouring a disproportionate amount of money into it, leaving the academic side to suffer. Buildings are falling apart all over campus, but they find money to completely renovate a portion of the football stadium. If the Mountain West gets an automatic bid every year, then they are just gonna throw more money into it trying to earn that bid...

I lived in San Diego for four years, and for the life of me I cannot understand why SDSU isn't more of a powerhouse. That city has EVERYTHING you could possibly ever want. The weather is almost always perfect, some of the most beautiful girls you'll ever lay eyes on, there is just so much to do out there!

It's also one of the nicest cities in the US.

I'm baffled why they can't bring people in. Not to mention they're right in SoCali.

Strange.

To me, the MWC is a much better Basketball conference than they are in Football. But maybe I'm the only one who thinks that.

Utah, BYU, UNLV, SDSU, TCU, AF, UNM..they're all good in basketball.

People's Republic of Cal would never let the Utah schools in.
