Nick Saban showed great progress when his team went 9-7 and missed the playoffs. Raheem Morris lead Tampa Bay to 10-6 his second season and they missed the playoffs. The Dallas Cowboys progress every year regardless of coach. They should make the playoffs sometime before 2030 at this rate.
The reality is that teams that are just good enough to not make it are no more likely to make the playoffs the next year. Teams who fail to make the playoffs do so because they failed to reel in wins that would have made the difference and that were likely there for the taking. The tendency to do that doesn't go away.
We infused this team with a boatload of expensive talent and visible improvement from a second year QB and got one more win. We are not likely to add more talent this offseason than we did last year, so I fail to see how any owner could really be satisfied with this "progress".
