The Dolphins have signed UDFA Micajah Reynolds after trying out for the team at rookie camp.

http://www.mlive.com/spartans/index.ssf/2014/03/former_michigan_state_defensiv_3.html A liitle piece on him. He is bigger than any other DT on Miamis roster right now. He measured 6'4" and weighed 327 at his pro day. He did 32 reps on the bench press and ran the 40 between 4.97 and 5.07 seconds with a 29 inch vertical.

His measures say he has some explosion at that point of attack as well. Bill attempted to sign him to the Patriots before his old coach persuaded him to sign with the Saints on offense. He should have listened to Bill, who was going to sign him as a DT. But I am glad he didn't.

A 327 lb DT with a 37 inch vertical leap? Sign this guy immediately.

Those are excellent numbers. Man sounds like he was out of position.

Might be an acorn that grows into an oak!

29 inch vertical at 327 pounds is excellent! Lotta gravity to overcome, lol.

Why? Some guys fixate on the performance metrics. Can he play?
Fixation with performance metrics has given us draft picks like Clyde Gates, Michael Egnew, Daniel Thomas, etc. I'm still hopeful that Dion Jordan will be a great player, but we shouldn't just recruit players on this basis.
Zach Thomas was too short to play LB. Jerry Rice was too slow to play WR. Wes Welker was too small to play WR. Drew Brees and Russell Wilson are too short to play QB. Jason Taylor was too light to play DE. Ryan Tannehill's hands are too small. Hines Ward was too slow to play WR. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning had slow 40 times and Tommy's 3 cone drill was disgraceful.
Surely the game has shown us that there can be glorious exceptions to the performance metrics. However, our scouts need to look at multiple things in assessing the players to sign. By all means assess the performance metrics but please don't fixate on the numbers. Ireland was clearly obsessed by them and that is a factor in the team's struggle to overcome mediocrity.
But, having said all that, I wish Reynolds the very best success as a Dolphin and hope that his terrific vertical leaping skills can extend to great plays. Welcome Micajah.

Good signing. We needed another big body to shore up the dline rotation. Hopefully this guy can develop the way big Paul did.

I agree... I was merely saying for an UDFA camp signing the guy seems to have potential soley based on metrics... I wasn't saying he was the next Vince Wilfork.

Also anyone who had any hopes in Clyde Gates, Michael Egnew, and specially Daniel Thomas has no business evaluating football players... I'm talking to you Ireland.

He had a 29 inch vertical NOT a 37 inch vertical.

Still very impressive for someone weighing 300+ pounds.
