Active Roster
The Dolphins have signed UDFA Micajah Reynolds after trying out for the team at rookie camp.
http://www.mlive.com/spartans/index.ssf/2014/03/former_michigan_state_defensiv_3.html A liitle piece on him. He is bigger than any other DT on Miamis roster right now. He measured 6'4" and weighed 327 at his pro day. He did 32 reps on the bench press and ran the 40 between 4.97 and 5.07 seconds with a 29 inch vertical.
A 327 lb DT with a 37 inch vertical leap? Sign this guy immediately.
Why? Some guys fixate on the performance metrics. Can he play?A 327 lb DT with a 37 inch vertical leap? Sign this guy immediately.

Fixation with performance metrics has given us draft picks like Clyde Gates, Michael Egnew, Daniel Thomas, etc. I'm still hopeful that Dion Jordan will be a great player, but we shouldn't just recruit players on this basis.
Zach Thomas was too short to play LB. Jerry Rice was too slow to play WR. Wes Welker was too small to play WR. Drew Brees and Russell Wilson are too short to play QB. Jason Taylor was too light to play DE. Ryan Tannehill's hands are too small. Hines Ward was too slow to play WR. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning had slow 40 times and Tommy's 3 cone drill was disgraceful.
Surely the game has shown us that there can be glorious exceptions to the performance metrics. However, our scouts need to look at multiple things in assessing the players to sign. By all means assess the performance metrics but please don't fixate on the numbers. Ireland was clearly obsessed by them and that is a factor in the team's struggle to overcome mediocrity.
But, having said all that, I wish Reynolds the very best success as a Dolphin and hope that his terrific vertical leaping skills can extend to great plays. Welcome Micajah.
He had a 29 inch vertical NOT a 37 inch vertical.
