I'm starting to think Aaron Brooks is definately going to be a Dolphin next year. If Mueller liked him before, chances are he's been talking him up to Saban as a possible stop-gap guy to replace Frerotte while we groom some young guys. Mueller has a history of bringing in QBs every year and juicing up the depth chart and I'm betting Mueller has guaranteed Saban his #1 priority will be getting him a QB. Mueller probably believes he can pick him up cheap and he's got a starting job he can offer him too. When Mularkey resigned, it was reported that Saban was very anxious to get Mularkey and offered him the position the same day they interviewed. So, looking at his OCing days at Pittsburgh the one thing that stands out most, to me anyway, is how well Stewart played those years. I don't know if it's attributable to Mularkey's system or his coaching but his play was outstanding during that stretch. Given the problems we've had at the QB position in the past, I can see why Mularkey became such an asset in Saban's eyes plus he might have been thinking Aaron Brooks and Mularkey may have a damn good shot at making this work. Brooks and Stewart have enough similarities in their skill set and game to make Mularkey's system as succesful as it was in Pitt. His x-QB, Losman, has a lot of those same qualities as well although I don't know what kind of influence Mularkey had in him being drafted. We all give Saban credit for seeing way out in the future and the big picture...I think he may be doing it again or at least setting up what would be the best chance for Brooks to succeed.

Thoughts...

By the way, I'm not a fan of Brooks because of his tendency to make mistakes but I trust the Saban Machine.

EDIT***Being that some interpreted my statement about black QBs as being racist, I meant that for whatever reason, Saban's QBs in the past and the attributes, size, etc that he desires for the position have been met by black athletes. I apologize if any of you were bothered by that comment.

I dunno........

Unlikely, but possible...

I won't be 100% shocked if we signed Brooks......but pretty shocked tho (say 95% shocked  ).

I could see him coming to the Dolphins because Saban won't have to give up anything to get him.

The idea of Brooks signing with us is at the very least, a good possiblity, but to say that the reason is because he's a black QB and Mularkey has a history or something is absolutely stupid and racist...(I'm not a black man). This has to be the most assine post I've ever read...

Sorry about being so harsh, but you deserve it on this one...

I hope not. The guy's a big-time loser.

:sidelol:...yeah I'm not too fond of him either but there are a lot of connections. Here's another one.....Saban LSU-Brooks NO...I'm sure he's seen plenty of Brooks and has a good read on him.

Man and all this time I thought he judged and coached athletes, regardless of the color of their skin,....but hey, thanks for pointing it out.

:shakeno:

One thing people have to keep in mind is that we always here how some coach or GM moves to another team and then he brings in coaches and players from his old team. But you never hear when they don't bring in people from the old team. And I bet that happens more than we think.

My point is, is that just because they had a working relationship with the other team doesn't meen it was a good one, or one that worked or that the coach/GM wants to carry over to his new team.
In otherwards, maybe Muller just doesn't want anything to do with Brooks.

WTF??? His last 3 QBs have been black. What the hell does that have to do with being racist? We saw last year how Saban has his STRICT list of attribute's, size, etc that his players need to have for certain positions. For whatever reason, he seems to have had black athletes fill the description at the QB position. Is that not fact?

At this point if Saban brought in Ryan Leaf, I'd back him. He's on a roll!

The fact that Saban's QBs were black have nothing to do with them being his QB.

And another thing you may need to consider about your theory, is how many of Sabans QBs are NFL QBs? And as far as Mularkey and Stewart goes i think that was Cowher trying to make that work more than it was MM.

None. That doesn't mean he's not going to target the same attribute's when searching for a QB. He has a system and he believes it works regardless of how many he sent to the NFL. Yeah, it's pretty obvious Cowher wanted Kordell to work out....he drafted him. Doesn't change the fact that he had his best seasons in Mike Mularkey's system.
