• The Dolphins say they're keeping the same offensive system they ran under new Rams coach Scott Linehan, but players expect some differences under new coordinator Mike Mularkey. For example: Though Mularkey will go deep to take advantage of Daunte Culpepper's arm, the sense is there won't be as many long passes as Linehan called.
''The offense is going to be more controlled and more balanced,'' receiver Chris Chambers said. ``Linehan liked to go downfield a little bit more. Early in the year last year, we were throwing up balls just to be throwing it up. Now there's a reason behind a lot of the stuff we're doing. [Mularkey] wants a tough, physical team. I like his approach.''
KC Joyner of espn.com tells us that Miami threw 179 medium or deep passes (balls thrown at least 10 yards) last season, or 11.2 per game. Buffalo -- then coached by Mularkey -- threw 102, or 6.4 per game. (Culpepper attempted just under 10 per game with Minnesota.) For passes thrown at least 20 yards, Miami attempted 93, Buffalo 46.
''I think how we attack, obviously, I have different ways of doing it than Scott,'' Mularkey said.

Saban recently called Ahmad Brooks, the Virginia linebacker and top prospect in Thursday's supplemental draft.
I like seeing that.

Hopefully Ronnie can avg aboubt 5 yards a carry on 1st down. All sorts of options open up for Mularkey then.

It would do Mularkey well to throw deep more often with Daunte back there. Especially after JP Losman burned us deep 3 times in the Buffalo game....If he had kept attacking, maybe they wouldn't have let us come back and win it.

I would prefer they go long more often, but feel Saban & Mularky are far better qualified than me to decide.

I'm not sure that I really like it, I mean with the rules the have on the Pass INT you have to take a few chances with the deep ball every game, chances are you'll get at least one pass-int call. Ultimatly though he just calls the play, DC is the one out there that throws the pass, if he sees a reciever open deep the ball is going deep.

Also I wonder if those stats are misleading a little because you have to remember they had JP Losman taking the snaps last year. That would keep me from going deep much also.

i hate conservative OC's. hope he realizes he has chambers and daunte and that opposing DC's are happy if he decides not to go deep.

I believe the Dolphins will maintain a balance offence but will ultimately go deep down the field more than they are reporting right now...

Exactly, why would a team tell their stragety, especially a Saban coached team.

Im sure he realizes that, I think its just stating he wont go deep as often. Im sure we will see plenty of opportunity for the deep ball especially if Ronnie gets going. I think in the long run this is a smart approach, not too conservative, just keep defenses guessing.

I'm very happy with Mularkey's new approach. It puts less pressure on Daunte and requires a complete effort from the ENTIRE offense. Lets face the facts, many of us weren't happy with Linehan's calls and how he didn't take full advantage of having Ricky and Ronnie in the backfield. With Mularkey we wont go deep as much but when we do we will be more successful due to the physical running game we are enforcing. I would much rather go deep 4 times a game and complete 3 than go deep 10 times a game and only complete 5. There has to be a method to the madness.

Yeah Nick wont tip his hat too much, as to our game-plan alot of smokescreens. I know this is off topic but, has anyone else noticed how few Jest, Patsie, & Jills fans have been on here since the end of last season and especially since we aquired Daunte. I'm guessing they are scared of us for this upcoming season lol.

Malarkey could be the fly in the ointment for this offense. His conservative approach could handcuff the offense. You have to strike fear in the defense of the opposing team by going deep to get them to play off.

I could see Chambers being happy with not going past 20 yards as much, because throws between 10-20 yards are more likely to have a higher completelion percentage than those of 20+. So from that standpoint it would ultimately mean more catches and yards for Chambers. Plus Chambers might like slants and outs, where he can catch it like 8-12 yards downfield, and then try and get more yardage after the catch. After all, playmakers like having the ball in thier hands.
