I am watching the post draft day news conference with Jeff Ireland, and he said that Murphy will be placed at RG and they will see what he can do. I assume this means Smiley will be at LG, because why would you try a guy out who has first year starting ability at a position he has no shot of winning? I think this means they see Smiley as a LG.

Also said that Hilliard will be a RB/FB and that Parmele in his view is the third back behind Ronnie and Ricky. Bad news for Cobbs.

I hope they move Smiley to LG to help the rookie Jake Long out.

I don't think it's wise to have two rookies on the left side..

This way Carey can help Murphy out on the right side. And Smiley can help out Jake on the left.

I dont think any 4th round rookie is thought of right away as a starter until they see what he has.

Update. I am still watching the PC and just got to the point where they asked about where Smiley would play since he said Murphy was going to play at RG.

Ireland said that they project Murphy on paper as a RG and that he will compete for a starting job this year. He said they wouldn't have drafted Murphy if they didn't think he could start this season. He said this could mean that Smiley moves to LG and that it is up to Sparano.

Yea 2 rookies on the left side is crazy . . . I don't care how talented they are . . . I rather have a vet at guard.

That's how I see it being played out initially. I like how our line is shaping up.

It worked ok for Webb & Sims their rookie year, but in this case our C would only be in his 2nd year, so you'd have three guys in a row with a total of 16 games of NFL experience.

So, yeah, it would be much better to swap Smiley & Murphy's positions if possible.

i don't think Murphy is going to play this year, but, who knows? I think everyone knows they've got a fair shot to play coming into camp.

Thats good to hear man.

Possible 4rth round pick as our starter? hope he turns out to be a STEAL!!! (pretty sure we got him in the 4rth?)

if smile and big jake are on the left side, were gonna be running the ball to the left side all day long

And that would really help Jake "in case" he has this "so called" problem against elite speed rushers . . . . we will run RIGHT at that DE . . . and Jake will dominate.

Don't forget that it is possible Murphy doesn't even start this season. It could be Drew Mormino instead.
