Now with Big Ben and Ward (most likely) out of the game, are we entering a must win situation?

Even if they were playing I think its a must win, this game could have huge implications come playoff time

Are you being serious?

A must win in week one?

:sidelol: Uh, no. This isn't a "must-win". This is the first game of a 16 game season.

I went thru the schedule and listed IMO which games I thought we would win and which ones I thought we would probably lose. I came up with 11 wins and at no time was Pittsburgh one of the wins.

And if the Fins win 11 games, they will be in the playoffs. If they win 12, they'll win the division. So this game, and no game in week one is a must win.

i wouldnt call it a must win but its a game that we should win with Btach starting at QB. but i thik daunte must have a good game even if we dont win just for his confidence.

I agree with your sentiment....if not your exact wording.

I'd hate to look back at the end of the year and see that a loss to the Charlie Batch/Cedric Wilson lead Steelers is hurting our playoff chances.....much like the season opening loss to the Texans in 2003.

There isn't a game on the schedule that isn't must win. The NFL season is short and a loss can easily come back to haunt you. Let's suppose we lose to Pittsburgh, then at the end of the season, we have the same record as Pitt and a tie breaker between us is deciding who gets into the playoffs. Guess who gets in?
You say you haven't once thought of Pittsburgh as one of our wins. Well, I'm certain the players don't share your opinion. Most fans don't share your opinion.
Here is an example of how a loss matters: remember when we opened up a few years ago against the Texans? Easy win huh? We lost. It's a game we should have easily won. Instead, that loss, in the end, cost us the playoffs. Whether it's the first game , 5th game, or last game, all games matter and are considered by every player and coach as MUST WINS.

That's pretty much his entire point.......why is it that THAT loss is the one that keeps getting brought up....there were 5 others, but that one was the one that hurt?? Because it SHOULD have been a win....we as fans feel pretty strongly that the better team did not win on that day. We win any 1 of the 6 we lost that year and we're in the playoffs......but everyone looks to that game as the one that got away and cost us the playoffs.

That's what he is saying about the Steeler game if they are w/o Roethlisberger and Ward......can't let this one get away, or we will be kicking ourselves at the end of the year. However, if it were the defending SB Champs, on the road, at full strength......I for one wouldn't have thought of it as a game that "we should have won".

'MUST' win ...

Come one . .. it's the 1st game of the season ... NO WAY is it a 'MUST' win ...

'SHOULD' win .... 'EXPECTED win ... ABSOLUTELY, of course we 'should' win a game against a team without its starting QB, and maybe even its best receiver ....

Yes, 16 games is a relatively 'short' season ... but MUST doesn't come into play until at least after the 4-5 games ....

You have to give some time for 'experience' ... pre-season doesn't provide this ... so the 1st 4 games do ...

ABSOLUTELY....lose this one and we may end up having to go to Pittsburgh for the conference championship, win it and they come to Miami. Now, which would you rather see?
Right.....MUST WIN.

I just want the us to win this game and come out of the boxes quickly. I think we should win if we play to our potential.

That was just an example. ALL of them mattered. EACH loss. Each game. One loss can come back to haunt you, it doesn't matter when it is. That's why each game is considered, and approached as, a must win. If Saban, or any NFL coach were asked if a game is must win, I guarantee you the response would be, "every game is a must win"

Don't take Pittsburgh lightly, even with Rothlisburger out they still have one of if not THE best OL in the NFL and a superb defense. Not to mention they won the SB last season!

Although I am certain Saban treats every game as a "must win", I personally also have never counted this as a win when tallying how I think our record will go this season, so this is a "damn sure hope we do win" game for me! But a loss is NOT going to end our season or our hopes!
