I was not impress with our 1st team although our o line was great (ON PASSING PLAYS). PLS God keep them healthy. Our d was Great. I give Sean Smith Mvp great best play stoping in red zone well done.

Its the FIRST PRESEASON GAME!!!!!

Preseason games are good stage to judge new talent like Sean Smith.

I don't care if we win or lose preseason games.

I care more about individual perfomances - who makes good plays, and who makes mistakes.

Jake Grove looked small in the chest. Damn I wish we had signed that center from Baltimore.

Is that a haiku?

I dont know man, oline was the only thing that really disturbed me. Backups were expectedly awful, but I was hoping to see a new, more physical first team open up some running lanes.

Do not get me wrong there was a lot i did not like vd flags, our o line against the run, and our 1st team offense, chad henne one bad call (when he gave it to a wr that clearly covered and another right behind him to catch it), and was wanting tony to pat white through things he do not fill comfortable not at the shotgun. I was not looking for a win in any way. I was looking at what we did at and more important where we need work

It was the first pre-season game....Im willing to bet Holt was still trying to get open....the pre-season is good for judging single players, just not whole squads due to communication and things. But individual play can be guaged...

Smith was definately the steal of the draft.

Forget about MVP, Sean Smith more importantly looks like the steal of the draft.

I can't believe we actually traded DOWN in the late 2nd round but thankfully didn't lose out on this guy!

He is just a flat our gamer with unique size, enough speed and awesome ball skills. We officially have our #2 CB.

Other game notes:

Henne and Pat White both looked very good.

Henne was accurate all night other than the poor decision on the pick.

Pat White put every ball on the money (the stats don't tell his story b/c of all the drops). Pat also got exactly what he needed (1st downs) with every run. He is ready for the Wildcat and he will be a legit prospect for us as a starting NFL QB in the future.

The OL (starters and depth) didn't show enough in the run game (although Donald Thomas will look better when he is back with the 1st unit (and the 1st unit will look better with him).

I know it's only one preseason game and I hate to say it but Vontae Davis reminds me exactly of his brother Vernon - million dollar muscles and speed but a ten cent brain and attitude.

CB was our biggest need (especially after losing Goodman for Eric Green) so I understand why we went for two CBs in the 1st two rounds but man, Vontae is probably going to take a while to pay dividends - just like Vernon is just now starting to get his act together for the 49ers.

If you look back to the draft, many wanted Hakeem Nicks where we took Vontae but Nicks has been pretty bad in Giants camps and didn't do much in their game last night.

I remember wanting us to trade up just a little bit in the 1st round when Ole Miss OT Michael Oher was slipping but BAL scooped him up at pick 23 (two picks before us). Sucks b/c Oher looks NASTY!!! I was watching the BAL game and he was absolutely destroying people. I know CB was more of a need than OL but if we had drafted Oher, Donald Thomas and Smiley could be competing for one spot (which would be a good thing considering their injury histories).

Kenny Britt (TEN) and Ziggy Hood (PIT) were both drafted later than Vontae in the 1st round and they both looked very good in their debuts too.

Oh well, I hope Vontae can make me forget about those guys.

Speaking of the draft, Turner and Harline seem like they were very solid picks.

P.S. I have a weird feeling like Jason Allen may be almost underrated at this point. I know he sucks in practice but I think he might show up in games if used as our nickel or dime or backup safety. So far, I'm not impressed with any of our non-starting DBs. (Chris Clemmons looked okay though - he and Jason Allen and Nate Jones may be our best depth.)

Agree with everything you said but the VD thing. Yes i will agree that right now he reminds me of his brother, but I say give this guy some time anywhere between a few games to a few years and this guy will be one of the CB's in the league. Too much with cb's you see lack of talent and getting physical and VD without doubt has both in fact needs cool down a little. And with a Wr core the afc east has you need every single tool possible to have a fighting chance.
