It was just one game, that's important to keep in mind.

That being said, a few thoughts:

1. Henne impressed me. You don't have a game like that against the Pats by accident. He's going to play teams with worse defenses and with worse preparation/scheming than the Pats for the most part. We may, only 1 game, we may have a real qb. Maybe this is why they passed on Orton.

2. I am severely concerned about our defense. Yes, it was Brady. Yes, it was Belichick. Yes, we had a shortened preseason. However, we had zero, absolutely zero, pressure on the QB. We had zero pressure even after they lost their starting center. Who is going to rush beyond Cam Wake? If they double him, which they did some, who else is going to rush? Jason Taylor?

3. I'm not just concerned about the defensive personnel. I am concerned about our lack of conditioning and the lack of strategic adjustments during the game. The conditioning was flat out embarrassing. We had Davis and Smith cramping, guys were just completely gassed. I know Brady was running the hurry up all game, but these guys play football for a living. I was a little bit shocked that Nolan didn't seemingly make any in game adjustments, we got torched all game by Brady. It was historic, he threw for 511 yards!! I know he's a unique player, I get that, I get that his coach may be a genius, but how about an adjustment at some point?? What's the worst that happens, he continues to torch you? This doesn't bode well for our defense, it really doesn't. And for the record, we should cut Nolan Carroll.

4. I am confused about our running game. Did they they think Clay and/or Thomas would function as the fullback? Maybe Hilliard? We had the ball on the goal line, begging, absolutely begging for the 1 yard plunge. We throw a fade to Hartline? Well yeah, I guess that's what you do when you have only Reggie Bush to try to run it down the middle against Haynesworth. There is a reason why the FB position exists in the NFL. We are seemingly going to run a bunch of spread this year and that's all well and good, but you still need a run blocker and you still need short yardage gains. I assumed when we cut Polite that we'd have another FB to fill that role. I have a hard time believing these coaches think that Bush will be durable enough to run the ball up the gut for more than a few more games without getting hurt and without failing at that role, he's not cut out for that. I love watching him, but he's not cut out for that type of running. I guess Thomas, although he's a rookie and he's hurt, is more of a power running back, but it doesn't eliminate our need for a FB. Our goal-line offense may be in trouble if we can't figure out how to run the ball in short yardage situations.

Overall, pleasantly surprised with Henne, hopeful he continues to evolve, quite concerned about our defense and hope it was just a case of first game rust and playing against that Pats, and really concerned about our run game. Should be an interesting year, I say 7-9.

Henne looks a lot better...still needs to make touchdowns when we need them in the red zone.
Conditioning and some playcalls were bad...that fade pass on 4th & 1 was a ridiculous call.

My most serious question now is simply head coaching...Sparano's team was not ready...and that falls on him in the end.

I was totally with you until the last sentence. I don't think the defense will suddenly become the worst in the league. I think that Bush was not really used properly, maybe that is an understatement. Obviously, his strength is when is in space. When we did that in the red zone, he scored. I am hopeful that Thomas or Johnson can be effective up the middle, and we use Bush differently. I am choosing to believe that Henne's development is for real, and I am still hopeful for a lot better than 7-9. We don't play the Pats 16 times.

The NE hurry-up no huddle offense is going to traumatize many defenses. It looks like Brady has taken his game to the next level. Maybe our guys' conditioning was sub-optimal but that can be corrected. I'm not convinced that our defense is bad, they knew what they were doing last year and this may give them a wake up call to get their act together quickly.

The OL is the main concern IMO. I also see Henne getting a lot of criticism for not throwing those TD's in the endzone but did anyone notice how when Brady threw those TD's down there that he was throwing to WIDE OPEN WR's or TE's? Henne could have made some better throws down there but it's not like he had wide open guys running around in the endzone like Brady did.

4th & 1 call was the game changer. We score we're down by 7 and the crowd is in to the game. I agree about the pass rush, as it was embarassing the amount of time Brady had in the pocket. What a difference from watching the Cowboys get at Sanchez to the Dolphins defense letting Brady just pick them apart.

Not too nervous as it was the first game. See teams like Steelers and Chiefs who won there division but got absolutely embarassed. I think Miami will be solid this year. Well, lets hope so

Another test for our team will be when we see the Pats play next week. If they torch the next team, and we play well it just might be a testament for how good their team is. Maybe they're just gonna be unstoppable and we were just in the way, or maybe we just have a bad D. We won't know until next week.

Normally you can't completely tell what a team is capable of in a season until about 4 or 5 weeks in. We don't know the state of our team's consistency this year yet after only looking at one game against one the the history's best QB's. Look at the Chargers, they start horribly every year and come out and dominate as the weeks progress.

I see Henne getting a lot of blame for the redzone offense but I don't think he deserves it for THIS game. There have been many times in the past when he didn't get it done, but its not his fault THIS game. From what I remember we had 6 trips into the redzone? 3 of them Henne converted to TD's. 1 I believe was the INT at the end? was that from the redzone? I'll chalk that up to desperation. The other 2 failed attempts were when they got inside the 2 yard line. One we settled for the FG and the other was the failed 4th down try. These I really don't think you can put on Henne. This is where your running game is suppose to make it happen. Either by doing it or at least the threat of running it. 1 and 2 yards is not a lot of room to throw the ball, especially when the other defense has no concern about your running game and are dropping into full coverage. I just can't put these on him. We need a big back in there in these situations..

We will run the ball more when Daniel Thomas returns this week.

I'm not surprised that Reggie didn't have the greatest success running the ball. I was surprised that we pretty much only used him. Larry Johnson and Lex Hilliard can both be used in short yardage and goal line.
