My 2 ents on Ireland and the team

Ireland has not been great nor has he been horrible. I'ld grade him around a C or maybe a C+ but no higher. There is room for improvement.

You're right man and about having the GM reporting to the head coach, thats the way I like it and how I think it should be. But having a rookie head coach we'll have to wait and see if he can prove himself, produce a winning record. Big if, but IF Philbin is the real deal and can turn things around then we'll be hearing more on his input rather Ireland managing every situation.

Come to think of it who was Sabin's GM / He had last word and so did Cam ....... maybe that's why they changed it around.
Heck the title HEAD COACH on this team is just the play caller so to speak. The GM desides what players your stuck with. Shula used to say get me that player. Now the GM says here's your players . Do the best you can.

Just look at the drafts pre-Ireland then look at what he's done since he's gotten here

That's like using the Titanic as the standard, and being impressed with fewer than 1000 casualties.

Jeff Ireland has a rotten look to him, starchy and smug as described earlier in this thread. What a creep. Too many posters evaluate performance as opposed to an attitude and mug that beg for a well earned right cross. If we rearranged some teeth and facial bones it actually might improve his speaking ability a bit.

So in 4 years he has improved us 5 games what a genius.

Are you really going to make me pull out the Miami roster before he got here and compare it to a recent one? Ok

Now the first thing I notice is the youth. Our roster is much younger and with youth comes growing pain but I have no doubt that if ireland keeps drafting like this we will be ready to compete for a loooong time pretty soon! I know it's hard but enjoy the proceSs.. Don't pay attention to all these media Debbie downers

I dont need the media to tell me we have had three straight losing seasons. Just because we possibly have more talent the results are no better and results are what count. In 4 years we have developed an oline that tied a record for most sacks ever by a phin team and we invested alot of money and picks in it. Drafting like what basically one starter a year will not have us competing

The offensive line situation has been a disaster and a lot of that is on Ireland and Parcells. I know it was Tony's specialty and folks like to blame him for the unit playing like crap, but Jake Grove? Justin Smiley? Etc? Tony didn't sign those guys.

Ireland gets pieces to win. He cant play offense nor defense. We went 0-7 and some how got 6 wins with Moore. We would of had more wins if it wasnt for our Def against Broncos and if Marshall would of caught a pass agaisnt Dallas.

We did lose to the Giants (Superbowl champs) by what 4 points? We didnt get blown out like the Falcons.
As of now I want to give Ireland another draft before making my final verdict. He did get us players like Clay, Jimmy Wilson and Pouncey. I will give Gates more time. We needed a fast guy and we got one of the fastest in that draft for cheap.

Let Moore start this year as we have no choice. Draft a rookie QB but dont reach for one.

All I see from that is we're worse at QB and WR and everything else is a push. What was your point again?

The more I look at things in detail, the happier I am with Ireland and this group. Just one example-your first round pick should be a slam-dunk starter or at least contributor every single draft. Take a look at our historical first round picks:
In 1996, our first round pick was Daryl Gardener. Great player who started and contributed for years. After that:
1997: Yatil Green
1998: John Avery
1999: JJ Johnson
2000: No 1st round pick (took Todd Wade in 2nd)
2001: Jamar Fletcher
2002: No 1st rnd pick
2003: No 1st rnd pick (but we got Eddie Moore in rnd 2)
2004: Vernon Carey
2005: Ronnie Brown (with #2 pick overall)
2006: Jason Allen
2007: Ted Ginn (with #9 pick overall, we got his family too)
Now start Ireland's tenure:
2008: Jake Long - started from Day 1, perrenial pro-bowler
2009: Vontae Davis - starter, #1 cb on team, called best cb nobody knows by HOF QB Brett Favre
2010: Jared Odrick - missed first year with injury, contributor on deep line last year, projected starter this year + Koa Misi (remember we traded back, so our 1st rnd pick actually got us both guys)- he's a starter, but we're looking to upgrade
2011: Mike Pouncey - started at center from Day 1, projected as a top center in the league

Bottom line is we've actually gotten somewhere with our first round picks under Ireland, while the majority of those before him were absolute busts, and only a few actual contributors in Carey and Brown, that I would argue were reaches at their spots. He inherited a team devoid of talent because of previous lunacy with our 1st rounders. Cut the guy some slack!
