MY 4,000th post rant: HOLDOUTS

Bottom line is getting the most right now. You can complain all you want about holdouts. If they signed a contract and, had garunteed money, that'd be one thing. They don't. They can get cut and, NADA!

This is a big boy world.

It's a big boy game.

Learn to deal, or don't watch if it disgusts you so much.

It's all a part of the game.

Oh...Ok...Let's compare firefighters/cops/Service to football players...

I'm laughing 'cause I WAS in the Army.

If people wore MY last name on thier backs, and, paid a gazzillion dollars to get a BDU jacket authorized by the Army, I'd be a little upset, granted, but, I don't think that ever happened...

Ok..My wife wore my BDU jacket somtimes...But she got it free.

You are the upmost in polyanna-dom if you think you can honestly, in the same breath, compare cops/firefighters/Army and ball players in the same breath.

It's apples and oranges.

Grow up.

You can't compare, that's my point! Firefighters, cops, army should get the millions not guys playing a sport. These are my opinions that's all, and yours are yours and I respect that too.

Well, I reckon they can ban me if that's what they want to do.

We as fans can lay whatever kind of lambasteing, insulting, degrading insults on players that we like but, we can't take remotely bad things said in our general direction AFTER we make said comment?

Whatever.

If I'm banned, it's probably for the good.

I stand by what I posted.

I never said anything bad towards you.

Your expression of frustration over people's not wanting to do what you want them to do caused me frustration. I expressed that in a way I guess, that is contrary to people going back and forth in every other post here.

Well I tend to disagree. Hines Ward is one of the best recievers in football and he is making NOTHING compared to others at his position. I think booker and DT both make more than him. Gates had a great year last year and deserves to be rewarded.

Look at it like this. You take a job in whatever field you are in for 50,000 a year. You have a great year...gain high praise from your bosses, and do a lot better than other people in your work that make more money than you. Aren't you going to want a raise?

You can make the argument that its football and its a lot of money, and thats very fair. But I can see where some of these guys are coming from.

Congrats on the 4,000th post...i hope to make it there one day soon!

 Right on the money. As late round picks or undrafted rookies those guys get paid peanuts compared to the superstars. Especially if they sign 3+ year contracts and perform at a Pro Bowl level for multiple seasons during those contract years. The window for most high profile players in their prime is very short considering their lifespan. They need to make sure their families are set up for life like any other good parent would. If they prove that they will be superstars in this league they should get paid like it. JMO.

Ok. I guess I'm a little short of fuse, because I hear this all the time, and, it's not a valid argument.

If cops/firefighters/miliraty generated million sand millions of dollars in revenue, they'd be entitled to some.

They don't.

Remember how you invoke thier names next time you get hit up for municipal taxes. Don't complain...They hould be making millions.

I respect your opinion, I simply believe it is without merit, becasue it's based on a flawed premise.

I was talking more in regards to the stuff you said that was potentially aimed at fans/board members. You're entitled to your opinions, and I welcome that but some comments were becoming more personal and the website does not tolerate any putdowns or fodder related to other members.

Yeah...Yah know...Probably best I shut it down for tonight. If staff wants to look at my comments and ban me, that's fine. I posted what I posted, and, I stand by it. I'm a big boy.

I think what I said was valid.

Time for

Carry on.

Perhaps you don't understand how NFL contracts work. Players DO get guaranteed money in the form of signing bonuses. If a player turns out to be lousy and does get cut, he keeps all that signing bonus money. If there were no bonuses then I would agree that players would have a right to hold out for more money as long as the team had the right to cut them. But, by accepting that guaranteed money they are guaranteeing that they will show up for work at the salary THEY agreed upon.

I agree and disagree with your post. Some players like Hines Ward and Donovan Darius have consistently put up great numbers for years and have been told their contract will be restructured, etc. but they still haven't been taken care of.

On the other hand, Terrell Owens forced himself out of San Fran, but not necessarily to the highest paying team, he wanted to play for a contending team. So after publicly stating he refuses to play for Baltimore, he signs with Philadelphia, knew what he was signing, and a year later is complaining again. He's a piece of garbage, I agree with you.

I don't know why you guys agree with Antonio Gates though. The guy did have a great year, key term being "a", as in one. Let the guy show some consistency before he sucks the rest of the cap room out of San Diego.

I agree with you totally on Ward and Darius, there contracts should be reworked to reflect how good they really are.

However I disagree with you on TO. Regardless of how TO left SF and how he ended up in Philly is irelevant. It sounds more to me that you just don't like TO period than the fact that he happens to be right. Trust me I am not attacking you because he really makes it easy for people to dislike him. But in this case, imo he happens to be right, the Eagles should look at reworking his contract to at least bring him in line of what the top receivers are making. I think the Eagles are upset at how he went about it and the circus show that he has brought to their organization, also the Eagles believe that they have public support on their side and can just ride it out. I beleive that if they are serious about getting back to the SB, TO should be made happy and all this grand standing by both parties should cease. IMO the Eagles are just as much to blame for taking such a hardline approach to this whole situation, the Eagles need to get there priorities in order.......Do you want to win the SB or do you want to look right in the eyes of the public.

Note: They don't win the SB without TO.

Reason 1: These players have signed contracts to play a given amount of time for a given amount of money, how would they react if a team told them that instead of making 7 mil this year they will be making 500,000?
its been said several times... but:
after the signing bonus and garentees.... the last few years of a contract are there for the player to make, unless cut. and players are told to take a pay cut or be cut all the time in the NFL. so you could be making 4 million a year, and told to take less, or get nothing. now that player could try to get a spot on another team. but they probubly wont make the same as they would have.

but thats all part of NFL contracts.

if i was in the NFL, i would not let personal feelings get in the way of "good business", especially when we are talkin about MILLIONS.
