I went down to Miami Friday night and got back this afternoon. Here's my take on how the experience at Sun Life Stadium went for me.

Though I can't be 100% since I didn't count each individual person, I'd guess the stadium was about 75-80% full. There were some spots in the upper deck that were a bit sparse. There weren't many Texans fans there are at all. I probably could've counted how many there were if I could. I sat in section 418, row 1, seat 1. The crowd was enthused from where I sat. The real cheers came when Marshall had the TD and JT had his sack on third down that forced a 3 and out after the Phins scored their TD. Aside from that, the crowd was still a bit enthusiastic even as the Phins continued to not score in the red zone.

The orange carpet didn't appear to be open for this specific game. I guess it's only "going on" when it's a national TV game or a season opener. The F-5 jets flyover at the start was awesome (I sport wood when I see planes fly over). The national anthem was sung by someone I'm not familiar with (done well) but the crowd seemed to know who he was. The halftime show? No idea WTF that was. Some chick named the Princess of 305. She was singing along to the Pitbull song that's hot right now. Most of the crowd was getting concessions anyway so her enthusiasm was pointless.

I myself really enjoy the atmosphere at the games. The music, the Gatorade highlight with the tight beat, the one song that gets everyone excited (the one they play simultaneously with the siren horn). They played the Phins fight song at the start of the 4th quarter and it got everyone jumping. The 'Fins Left' song I've never minded, just don't play it after field goals, it's ridiculous to do so IMO. They had a new 'song' that was the White Stripes "Seven Nation Army' but they just used the word "Oh". Oh ohhh ohhh ohhhhh ohh ohh ohh, looks goofy but it got us in the crowd jumping again, def a fave of mine.

There were no cuts on the HD board of celebs or anything like that. The crowd despised the call on 4th and 1 where the Phins tried to get Houston to jump off-sides. We booed the hell out of Sparano on that play.

All in all, it's in my opinion that if the Phins win some ball games at home, Sun Life Stadium will be fine. Yes people complain about the orange carpet, the celeb owners, the seats being far away, the infield dirt (though it's now gone), etc. These points matter in their own regard but I honestly believe the local fans just want a winner. Win and things will be much brighter for the Miami Dolphins. It sounds easier than it is.

Sorry they didn't win for you bro.

I agree. If we win, the stadium situation will be a non issue. Let's face it, is there any other fan base around that has been as confounded as we have been?

Glad you enjoyed your trip. It's only the Jets and Pats where there's lot of opposing fans.

They get to see football and visit granny living on Miami Beach at the same time.

Glad you had a good time. Also glad there wasn't any Fins Up bull**** being sold to you by Z-listers. That was probably the emptiest I've ever seen the stadium. Interesting time in Dolphins history to catch a game.

I didn't find the stadium to be empty myself

Being at the game vs the Jets last year on SNF, I know that's a fact. 30% of the crowd was those mouthy mother****ers

White stripe song is a Michigan tradition. After every score imagine ~100,000 people yelling that oh. Ross, being a Michigan man, adopted it from there.

Glad you had a good time down here. I was down in 121 and there were five Texans fans seated together in my section. The rest was solid Dolphins fans. There were hardly any Texans fans that I saw Sunday. The only team that really puts a lot of fans into our stadium is the Jets and that's simply because of the multi-generational mass immigration from NY.

There were a lot of people up under the stands in the early part of the game because of the heat. I agree about "Seven Nation Army" they should lengthen it and use it to help jack up the crowd more. People respond to it.

It's nice to see a post from an out-of-towner that doesn't exaggerate how empty the stadium is because it looked that way to them on the cutaway shots on TV. Sorry they didn't win for you on your trip.

Could be worse though. I'm 0-8 in my last eight games at the stadium.

The last win I saw was vs. Denver in 2005. I've been to losses since then to the Jets, Bills, Cowboys, Packers, and now Texans. 5 straight losses for me (I didn't go down in 2008 or 2009).

Yeah, it's been rough lately.

glad you had a good time.

i agree with you, i was their week 1 vs the pats, and last year snf vs the jets, ( both losses obviously but at least i know its not me being bad luck lol) but the atmosphere is really fun. it would be more fun if we were to win, but the atmosphere isnt as bad as it is made out to be here.

as for your comment about sporting wood when seeing planes, you should have been their vs the pats, a stealth bomber flew over the stadium, one of the cooler things i have seen.

We've lost the last 3 I've gone to. Last weekened, Saints in '09, and Ravens in the regular season.

We only won in '08 against the Chargers out of all the games I've attended`

I am 1-2 and last 3 trips to Miami....saw them beat Bills and Lose to Green Bay and Last yr`s Monday nite Disaster to New England....
0-1 in Orange Bowl vs. 49ers and NO Joe Montana for that game...Marino threw 4 int`s..
In JRS....Wins vs. Vikings,Bears,Falcons,Bills,
Loss`s vs. Bears,Colts,Packers,New England.
Alot of $ to fly down from NJ and see them Lose....is a Wasted Trip....

It was my first time to Sun Life Stadium and I went to both the Pats MNF game and the Texans game. For the Pats game I was sitting 113 row 6 and for the Texans game 113 row 10. I don't know if it was because I was in the upper deck for the Texans game but felt the crowd was much more into the game than the Pats even in the 1st half when it was close.

I really enjoyed the whole experience "tailgating" and walking around the stadium before the game was a lot of fun.

I even got picked to go down on the field at halftime and be part of the halftime show. I was on the field in the opposite end zone to where the play was at the end of the half and the crowd noise was deafening down there. Got some cool video!

Overall I had a great experience at both games and even though they were both losses I can't wait to go back!

I also went to the Miami/Ohio State game and that experience was even better. It was my first college game as a spectator and that was awesome! You can't beat college games for enthusiasm!

Sounds like you had a blast. Please post some video's if you get a chance.

Glad the Canes gave us all some excitment and a big win. That's why I'm so against the Gator thingy. We need those crazy Canes fans at our games.

The BRIGHT orange seating is dumb and makes the place look empty on TV. I'd paint it black or something. Then the empty seats don't stand out so much.

And maybe win a game or two there. That helps also.
