No doubt, we’re building a big-time POWER offense. And in preparation for that, I expect another OT taken at 2a (or certainly by 2b). Once this is done, our radical new OL could look like:

LT – Long
LG – Carey
C – Satele
RG – Smiley
RT – Cherilus or Collins or Nicks (all three big boys with plenty of chops for RT)

The combo of Long and Carey on the left side would be an impressive running game steamroller, and put our two best athletes together with Samson in the middle. Smiley matched with another power guy and you’ve got (suddenly) perhaps the BEST young OL in the league!

Could you imagine THAT after the crap OL we’ve had around here year after year!

For those who question Carey at LG, the move has to do with employing your talent to maximum advantage. This draft is LOADED with OT talent, and believe it or not, there are many who feel Carey's BEST position is at G. That doesn't mean he's not a solid T, but he could be ELITE as a G matched with someone like Long and Samson.

Even if we don’t move Carey to G, we need more depth at OT --- which gives us a lot of versatility across the front as well. Bottom line, if we can get another 1st round grade OT at 2a then I'd love to see us load up on the big guys. One way or another, TS will find the best combination.

Others in the power game mix:

Mauia – a potentially monster sledgehammer lead blocker, this dude has a nasty demeanor, and flat-out knocks the snot out of people. With one year under his belt, he’s got the potential to be one of the best in the game as a power lead blocker.

Ronnie Brown – if he returns to form (the zillion dollar question), he’s one of the most gifted physical backs in the game. Match him with a dominant power OL and supporting cast and defenses will hate playing us.

Wilford – a big physical WR who doesn’t mind getting nasty in the running game; fits right into the power game mold.

Mormino – known as a nasty dude, he’s been bulking and could prove to be an excellent back-up and/or solid player. Bottom line, he’s YOUNG with lots of potential, which fits right into the mold for this OL

Sure enough, this fits right in with Parcells M.O. Problem is, it's inflexible and lacking in technique. This means it can be gamed for and countered, just as was happening in Dallas at the end of his tenure there.

I have posted on this before and agree with Carey at LG depending on who is available to us at 2a

I would keep Carey at RT and have Smilely play LG.. Smiley is a solid vet as well and he could fill the role... I do not want to have 2 starting tackels as rookies because some teams have 2 solid d-ends.. and if jake is great, and the other is ok, we can still get swamped with sacks from the right side..

ireland has said more than a couple times since yesterday about
now being able to work on trades and there have been reports that
miami may be trying to get back into the first round.

i can see several scenerios that get us back into the mid to lower
1st round, but however they do it, i bet it is for BRANDON ALBERT!!

earthquake jake and alberts on that left side would be devastating!

plus, alberts is used to the left sidde [where we need him] and has
played [and succeded] at the lt spot. so in an emergency we have
a guy that canslide over and do the job.

LONG
ALBERT
SATTELE
SMILEY
CAREY

i could live with that, easily!!

but i do have a feeling they are after a certain guy. my guess
is albert, who do you guys think it is?

How can you say its "inflexible?" Seriously, look at our roster and tell me a big strong dominant OL matched with RB and Booker and RW with a young QB is an issue?

Becks needs a relaible running game and reliable protection --- Ginn needs time on the deep routes and our D needs time to sit on the sidelines. What's the possible snag in that?

that would be the best thing ever.. but albert is a top ten pick maybe even top 5... we have to give a second and a first next year.. plus albert prob will get drafted as a LT...

Well I think our offensive philosophy became pretty obvious when we signed Dan Henning and decided to hang on to Ricky Williams. We have two studs at running back and the offensive line is beginning to come together with some nasty players on board. I'm excited to be a Dolphin fan because we have the chance to have a really great o-line this year. Probably the best we've had since the 70's when Csonka ran all over the league.

OMG if we could land Albert I'm big-time with you! That kid may turn out to be the best OL player in the draft. Him and Long together would be borderline illegal!

I’m trying to be both conservative and 100% realistic in my projection, but yes Albert looks like the second coming of Hanna or Allen.

yeah it would be incredible.. but like i said before... albert is gonna be drafted as a LT in the top 10 maybe even top 5.. we would have to give up our 2nds and next years first for him... why not just jump in and get c.long or v.golston? that would be incredible to

If Albert goes that high (and he may) then we have no chance (unless we absolutely sell the farm and there's no need to do that based on the realistic alternative at 2a).

But I'm really glad to see there are a number of people here excited about the OL and how fast that could turn this teams fortunes around. Like I said in the open of this post --- I hope we stay on the OL with our next pick and get the job 100% done.

You guys look like you're building a great o-line and have potential to have a good running game. But until you prove you have a QB that can beat you deep, defenses will stock the box with 9 guys.

Dont worry I think Beck is gonna prove alot of people wrong...

It's a lot easier for any QB to beat you deep when the QB's got more than 2 seconds to make a decision. McCown isn't terrible, and Beck's still got plenty of potential.

Beck was a rookie behind a downright shoddy line last year. I'm not waiving the white flag on him just yet.

True. I believe Beck is that guy. He's got a gun. Unfortunately, last year he was trying to adjust to the speed of the pro game while running for his life on a team that couldn't protect him. I also believe the Fins will take a QB on Saturday to make sure they have the position covered.
