If you want only positives, please click on one of the positive threads. There are plenty of them, as there should be. Dolphins played a great game today. Lost in the 20 Tannehill threads (and win or lose, there are always 20 of 'em), here are some things that really bothered me about today's GREAT WIN:
1. The turf at Solder Field is atrocious. This is nothing new, and other teams have been complaining about this for years. That said, it was so egregiously bad that it deserves its own mention here. I have never, ever in my life seen so many players slip and all on the field... unless you count the other Bears home games I've watched over the past couple of years.
2. Something is clearly wrong with Brandon Fields, and we need to address this issue ASAP. He's been outstanding for us for years, but at this point, it has become a glaring trend. This needs to be a priority, immediately.
3. Caleb Sturgis is not a kicker we can rely on. I am resigned to being stuck with him, but to borrow a phrase from Joe Philbin, he makes me queasy.
4. I legitimately felt that the game was poorly officiated. I understand that all home teams (including Miami) benefit from more favorable calls at home, but I honestly felt like the referees were actively trying to keep the game close. I realize that some will think I am just being an idiot, but some of those calls were just silly. I would have certainly understood an illegal contact or defensive holding call against Jamar Taylor on that one PI call, but I fail to see how pass interference can be called when the receiver would need to be 12 feet tall with freakishly long arms just to get a hand on the ball. I also saw some pretty blatant holding on the Bears that wasn't called, while the refs raced to throw two flags against Miami on Miller's touchdown.
I suppose we should ascribe this to incompetence rather than maliciousness, but still, badly officiated game.
5. Our interior OL still can't seem to pick up stunts consistently, and Ryan Tannehill has a bad feel for them. I think we are going to continue to have big problems against good defensive lines if this can't be sorted out quickly.
Oh, and
6. Four seconds to play on the half and you have the ball on the opposing 43. You don't go for a Hail Mary or very long field goal attempt? REALLY Joe? Really? Don't tell me that was hindsight either, we were screaming for it in the game thread. That's Sparanoesque coaching.
