I know all you Quinn lovers are in a frenzy, but day 1 of the 2007 NFL draft wasn't that bad at all.

Ted Ginn Jr. is a playmaker, and we have been in need of one for many years now. He is a great returner, and should be good for at least a few touchdowns. He is not really a guy that can be our main receiving threat anytime soon, but defenses still have to respect his pure speed or else they will get burnt over the top. This will also open up the run game a little. He is a better pick than Quinn IMO(I hate Brady), but we reached WAY too far for him. I don't really understand why we were not able to trade with Green Bay who probably wanted Amobi Okoye after they drafted Justin Harrell. Grade: C+

John Beck was a good pick and hopefully should make all you forget about passing on Brady Quinn. He has great mobility, a good arm, and a lot of accuracy. I was watching some film on him, and he makes great throws under pressure, which is great if we don't solve these O line issues in the next few years. Grade: B+

Sampson Satele might have been our best pick. I'm going to find out more about him, but from what I have seen and heard, he is a beast. He is physical enough to be a great run blocker at the next level, and playing in the shotgun offense at Hawaii probably(not 100% sure yet) makes him a good interior pass blocker. He can fill in at guard or play center, we were in need of a guy like that. Grade: A-

Lorenzo Booker was a good pick, but I think we should have picked defense right there. At least Booker can fill the 3rd down back slot if Ricky is traded or not reinstated. Grade: B-

Overall I give this first day a B-. We filled some important holes on the team with rookies who should be able to make an impact. Reaching for Ginn, not drafting any defense, and not drafting a good LT brings down the grade.

I pretty much agree accept thinking we reached for Ginn. It was considered a reach by a few analysts only because they thought we should have taken Quinn.
What people need to look at it the big picture of the draft so far. We have gotten the #2 rated WR, the #3 rated QB, the #2 rated C and a very capable RB who can make plays with the ball in his hands. We had a very good draft on Day 1.

What gets me is why some guys are so upset with the Ted Ginn pick? Do you realize what he will do for our offense in terms of getting into the endzone, or better yet, getting us closer to the endzone so we have more scoring opportunities by his amazing return abilities. We got the #1 playmaker in the draft and guys should be happy about that, to go along with a more than capable QB in the second round who in my opinion is every bit as good as Quinn, just doesn't have the hype, name or big college to make himself look better.

People don't like the Ted Ginn pick because they listened to the talking heads who said he is not physical enough to play WR against NFL CB's. It may be true, but he did quite a job on Leon Hall who was a first round corner. Like I said before he is not a #1 receiver anytime soon, but defenses have to respect his big play ability right away.

I agree I think that we have had a solid draft so far. Even Kiper was saying yesterday that if Quinn was already picked that picking Ginn would not have been a shock, and that if not for the foot injurt he would have ben a top 10 pick. Besides a lot of mock drafts had us picking Ginn anyways.

I feel that Mueller and Cam saw the samething in Beck as they saw in Quinn and decided to go w/a PLAYMAKER that could help us now.

After breaking away from the media hype of Quinn that I think we all fell for yesterday, I do like the pick. A few things to consider...without Hester Chicago does NOT go to the super bowl, and getting hurt in the BCS title game killed his stock for the draft. He is near uncatchable if he gets any open lane at all. If he ripped another return for TD in that game he would have been top 5 - because the media would have been all over it since January. I think we are all going to be pleasantly surprised.

You made a great point right there. The media controls a lot about where a player gets drafted, and all the hype Ginn would have gotten would have turned him into a can't miss prospect.

well didnt cam say a few days ago alot of people are going to be saying who on draft day. seems like it was an andy cohen article, but its been a few days so i dont know if i could find it again. any way he warned you
