Since this is a Dolphin site, I’ll minimize my reaction to the top 15
1) DE Mario Williams, Texas – Idiots
2) RB Reggie Bush, Saints – Christmas was 4 months ago.. city deserves it
3) QB Vince Young, Titans – Should be a 2nd-rounder; looks like Uncle Rico throwing a pork steak at Pedro (thanks PFT!)
4) OT D’Brickashaw Ferguson, Jets – MY FAVORITE PLAYER A JET?!?!?
5) LB A.J. Hawk, Packers – ‘Bout time they get a LB
6) TE Vernon Davis, 49ers – Superman in shoulderpads if he can translate it onto the field
7) S Michael Huff, Raiders – Right choice; can’t miss safety over a weak-armed QB
8) S Donte Whitner, Bills – Reach, but I love this guy and I wanted him for the Phins
9) LB Ernie Sims, Lions – 7th LB drafted Top-10 in a decade… a 5’11, 230 pounder with injury problems.. thanks again Millen!!
10) QB Matt Leinart, USC – Chad Pennington. Not Joe Montana or Tom Brady.
11) QB Jay Cutler, Vanderbilt – Tough, loyal, and the best QB prospect in the draft entering an ideal situation
12) DT Haloti Ngata, Oregon – Think Ray Lewis was tough on Terrell Suggs as a rookie? Just wait…
13) LB Kamerion Wimbley – Nice player, but Im glad they got him before us
14) DT Brodrick Bunkley – 44-benches? Fine… but just try to toss NFL guards around in the NFL…
15) CB Tye Hill – See Hawk pick, but with CB’s
1) FS Jason Allen, Tennessee
Jason Allen dares to have the ball-skills of a CB with a LB’s mentality. Thus, he makes for the perfect FS in a secondary in need of athleticism and leadership. But let’s stop the versatility arguments right there, OK? He’s a FS. Not a run-stuffer. Not a CB. Give me a rangier Brock Marion with 4.39/40 speed and we’ll have a cornerstone in this defense.
I breathed a sigh of relief when Ngata, Wimbley, Bunkley, and Hill went off the board as LB Manny Lawson and WR Chad Jackson were still available at #16. But Allen? I’m fine with it, neither elated nor disappointed.

3) WR Derek Hagan, Arizona St
Despite Hagan’s back-to-back-to-back 1000 yard seasons (Pac-10) record, I don’t like the pick. His 40 time is overrated, his hands are inconsistent, and he should struggle to separate at the next level. He reminds me of Rashaun Woods, who completely bombed with the 49ers after a breath-taking career at Oklahoma St. I do like one thing about Hagan, though: he lost QB Andrew Walter (3rd round, Raiders) in last years draft and still responded with a 1210 yard season. That’s impressive.
Grade: D+
4) OT Joe Toledo, Washington
ESPN’s John Clayton cited Joe Toledo as the draft’s most intriguing LT prospect in light of Winston Justice’s character and Eric Winston’s knee . He played TE for the Huskies for FOUR YEARS before taking over Khalif Barnes at LT this past season. The 6’6 – 320 Toledo is the perfect toy for Hudson Houck to play with. I love this selection, even if it’s a longshot.
Grade: A
7) DT Fred Evans, Texas St
Nice developmental prospect with the frame to add weight. At 6’4 – 300 with a nice blend of size and quickness, the jury is out on where Evans projects in either the 4-3 or 3-4.
Grade: B+
7) DT Rodrique Wright, Texas
Wright’s long arms and quintessential NFL frame drew comparisons to Richard Seymour last year when every mock draft in the country had Wright in the first round before he elected to go back to Texas for his senior season. Boy, is he regretting it now. Wright’s senior campaign dropped him into the 3rd round, then into the late-2nd day after concerns of a potential torn rotator cuff. He’ll likely sit out the season, then return in 2007. The Dolphins have 2nd or 3rd round value if Wright returns in full stride.

7) WR Devin Aromashadu, Auburn
Ever heard the saying “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em� Aromashadu caught a 30 yard pass to clinch a 10-9 victory over Nick Saban’s LSU Tigers in 2004. Oh yeah, and he’s 6’2 – 200 with 4.35 speed. Nice sleeper.
Grade A
Overall: I loved Toledo, Evans, Wright, and Aromashadu in the second day. Jason Allen’s size and athleticism makes him a near cant-miss at FS if he stays healthy. Hagan, to me, is more of a Wannstedt pick at WR. I’m pleased overall with the quality of the selections, just not the quantity.
