No trades involved mock draft. Enjoy...and looking forward to your critiques:

1. DE - UVA - Chris Long (6-4 284lbs): to me this is the only no-brainer for us. J.T. has a couple of seasons left under his belt, and we don't have any real pass rushing threat on the DL after him. Long is big, strong, and relentless. I think he would make a bigger impact for us than Dorsey and Jake Long.

2a. DT - Auburn - Pat Sims (6-4 316lbs): Massive NT who can move (4.9 40yd. dash). Single-handily tore Clemson's o-line to shreds. A very disruptive force in the middle of the line.

If it wasn’t for Cleveland picking right before our 2b pick, I would go with OLB Quentin Groves at 2a, and NT Red Bryant at 2b…but I think Cleveland is going to snatch him Bryant right before our 2b pick because they also need a lot of help on the d-line.

2b. MLB – Georgia Tech - Philip Wheeler (6-2 245): Played MLB for Ga. Tech but is better suited for weakside OLB in the pros. As an OLB in ’06 he had 89 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and 9 sacks. As a MLB in ’07, he had 88 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, and 5 sacks. Quick (4.5 - 40yd), very good pass rusher and blitzer.

3. OT/G – Northern Iowa – Chad Rinehart (6-5 317lbs): This is my sleeper pick, although it looks like a reach to pick him at this spot, it won’t be that way for long. Great size and very physical with excellent feet. Great run-blocker. Although he’s from a small program, he’ll have no problem adjusting to the pros.

4. TE – Kentucky – Jacob Tamme (6-5 240lbs): Albeit a smallish TE, he has the frame to get bigger. Needs to work on his blocking. He has good speed (4.6 40yd), very soft hands and catches the ball away from his body. What I like most from what scouts are saying, is that he is very smart, and he is a long-snapper and holder which makes him even more valuable on special teams.

5. To Kansas City for Trent Green trade.

6. WR – Duquense - Bruce Hocker (6-4 205lbs): Productive WR at a lower level program, projected to run in the 4.4s. With his size and speed ratio, could be an absolute steal with the first pick in the sixth round. Possible small school sleeper.

7. SS – Illinois – Kevin Mitchell (6-0 200lbs): Known for making bonecrushing hits. One of the hardest hitting safeties in this class. Could find a spot in our weak secondary, but definitely could turn out to be a special teams ace as well.

My Reasonable Free Agent moves.

I don’t think we are going to make any big splashes in FA because not one big name FA will make us instant contenders, so I will concentrate more on 2nd tier free agents that I feel will impact our team.

1. CB Drayton Florence – Very solid DB whose play is very consistent.

2. OLB Calvin Pace – Big, weakside OLB that will compliment Porter on the other side.

3. OT Travelle Wharton – Our new OL coach worked with this guy, and I think Wharton is very a solid LT, plus he’s young and bringing him in will move Vernon Carey back to the right side which I think is his best position.

4. NT Isaac Sopoago – This guy is underrated, and I think he will help out our line instantly until Pat Sims takes over. Bringing in Sopoago and drafting Sims to go with Solai will instantly give us a great rotation at NT.

5. WR Andre Davis – I think he revived his career in Houston. He’s a dangerous deep threat with very good return skills to compliment Ginn on the outside and on special teams.

Well this is my off-season. I would love to hear everyone’s opinions, so what do you think about it and what changes would you make?

id rather take OT or CB at 2b and have Beau Bell at 3

I didn't go with an OT or CB at 2b because of the FA signings I have us signing Drayton Florence and Travelle Wharton before the draft. That's why I chose to draft a LB at 2b mainly because that is our thinnest position on defense, and if we are going towards a 3-4 defense we are going to need more capable LB/DE hybrids than what we already have on our roster.

BTW...I like Beau Bell a lot and considered him there at the third round spot but I think Wheeler is better. Although Wheeler doesn't possess the size that Parcells covets, I think he was much more productive in college than Bell was, and truthfully I just can't pass up an OT like Rinehart after going defense with my first three picks.

pace is the best lb out there..he does it all i know that the cards will proble tag dansby but they cant afford every 1 im guessing so i hope we get him

SS – Illinois – Kevin Mitchell (6-0 200lbs): Known for making bonecrushing hits. One of the hardest hitting safeties in this class.

Can he cover ? I don't care about bonecrushing as much as coverage in the secondary.

good job.......i still think we'll get one big name free agent pickup......not even parcells is immuned from the big names, and we got the cash.

I agree, but you can't expect much from a guy if he's still there in the 7th round, which is where he's projected to be drafted at this time. His coverage skills are only ok, so like most late round draft picks; he will have to earn his pay on special teams until he develops into a player we can count on in the secondary. After all, our special teams on coverage was horrible last year, and they alone cost us two games.

Thanks.

I am definately not opposed to the idea. I think it will be much harder to pull it off this year than in the past, but you never know.

Getting pace would be AWESOME. Our LBs would look like this:

Calvin Pace....Zach Thomas.....Channing Crowder.....Joey Porter

...and rookie Philip Wheeler would learn the ropes from Thomas and Porter. Wheeler's versatility to play OLB and MLB would be provide valuable depth until he's ready to take over one the LB positions in the near future.

"Getting pace would be AWESOME. Our LBs would look like this:

Where would you play Jason Taylor?

If miami goes to a full fledged 3-4 defense JT will NOT be a DE he's best at OLB so I dont see where a Pace would fit he would cost money at a Pos. where you already have plenty of $$$ invested.

Now if Taylor is traded then fine that makes business sense, other wise I dont see it.

i dont agree with any of these...if we are taking a linebacker, the first one the comes to mind is Shawn Crable...he is a Parcells LB,he is 6'5",240,runs a 4.6,can play coverage, and a great blitzer and pass rusher,he is better than Wheeler....at Safety...Jamar Adams is a better Safety,he is bigger 6'2",210,and plays better coverage AND he is a punishing hitter...not to mention he is built, very strong....at the 33rd pick we should take Dominqu Rodgers Cromartie,he need a ball hawker on defense, which we dont have...Will Allen couldnt catch a cold(he could have had at leadt 5 INT's chances this season and Jason Allen's INT's only came from one game against a horrifying Donovan McNabb game-play,so Dominque should be the first pick no doubt in the second round,he is 6'2" 170 and runs a 4.3,and can hawk the ball and play coverage....he just has to get stronger and get better at tackling then he will be a shut-down Corner

If we can't trade down I totally agree with Chris Long. And we should sign him the night before the draft!

If we sign Isaac Sapoaga (which we should, great call there) then why draft Pat Sims when there are other prospects we could take later? Also, there will probably be a very good NT prospect who goes undrafted because most teams run a 4-3 defense. With so many holes to fill, Sims AND Sapoaga doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

I'd rather take a CB. Leodis McKelvin or Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie if they're still on the board. Or Tracy Porter if they're gone.

I totally agree that Cleveland is targeting Red Bryant with their 2nd round pick. Good call. We are in sync in a lot ways.

Philip Wheeler with our late 2nd round pick would be awesome. We agree again! I really hope he's still on the board at that point. And I definitely see him playing inside in a 3-4 defense. Also I see him starting Day 1.

I'm not so crazy about Chad Rinehart in the 3rd. I'd rather get more secondary help by drafting Jamar Adams, the SS from Michigan if he's still on the board.

Not to mention we could sign Alan Faneca instead. That could be our big splash in free agency.

If we don't sign Faneca, wouldn't Branden Albert, Roy Schuening, or Drew Radovich be a better pick than Rinehart?

I'm not a big fan of Jacob Tamme. Besides, I don't see Parcells and Ireland drafting a smallish TE. Brad Cottam would be the guy if he's still on the board.

If Cottam is gone I would much prefer Spencer Larsen (the ILB from Arizona) to Tamme.

In the 6th round I'd prefer Adrian Arrington, Darius Reynaud, Jason Rivers, or even Jacob Hester to Bruce Hocker. Unless Hocker gets invited to the Combine, he will probably go undrafted. Same goes for Kevin Mitchell.

If you're looking for a safety in the 7th round, Dennis Keyes from UCLA would be a better choice in my opinion. Or maybe Derrick Doggett from Oregon St.

You beat me to it. I agree with almost everything except I'm not a fan of Crable. I think Wheeler is better.

We will not sign anyone before the draft. the draft day is whne we are gonna try making the dallas trade. we arent gonna make the trade until the draft day if we are gonna trade for it. there is no way we dont go to draft day not trying to trade this pick....but chris long should be the pick if we cant trade down. i see us taking the whole ten minutes to find a trader if we can and if we cant chris long should be the pick

I agree with you about him being a Parcell's guy, and I gave him a lot of thought until I read reports on him. IMHO, I still feel Wheeler is the better choice right now. The scouts are saying the knock on Crable is his intelligence and that he's slow at reading and reacting. They think he might have a hard time picking up defensive schemes at the pro-level; that concerns me and it should concern you too. Crable has great size, but Wheeler is more intelligent and athletic. So I chose Wheeler at this point.

...at Safety...Jamar Adams is a better Safety,he is bigger 6'2",210,and plays better coverage AND he is a punishing hitter...not to mention he is built, very strong.

I agree with you about Adams. He is better than Mitchell. Where would you draft him at?

..at the 33rd pick we should take Dominqu Rodgers Cromartie,he need a ball hawker on defense, which we dont have...Will Allen couldnt catch a cold(he could have had at leadt 5 INT's chances this season and Jason Allen's INT's only came from one game against a horrifying Donovan McNabb game-play,so Dominque should be the first pick no doubt in the second round,he is 6'2" 170 and runs a 4.3,and can hawk the ball and play coverage....he just has to get stronger and get better at tackling then he will be a shut-down Corner

I agree with you on this one too...BUT I think Rodgers-Cromartie will be gone before the 32nd pick. That's why I didn't list him as our # 2a. pick. If he's there, all bets are off; I would draft him at that spot.
