My Fins Mock...Thoughts

C

After seeing and reading about Senior Bowl practices, I have decided to create a Fins mock.. This mock is made with the idea that the Fins will not trade picks (even tho I believe they might as many players would be a reach at the 9th spot)..This mock is also made with the idea that Quinn/Russel will already be off the board. Finally, this mock is made with the belief that we will get a pass rushing OLB via FA that Cam has said the Fins need to address.

First Round

Levi Brown-OT-PSU
Fills a major need
-OR-
Dwayne Jarrett (Think Keyshawn Johnson. Huge Redzone Threat at 6'5)-WR-USC or Dwayne Bowe-WR-LSU (His stock is quickly rising. According to the Senior Bowl scouts, one of the best players in Mobile. Think Anquin Boldin.)

These picks may be reaches but with the 9th pick, I believe many of the top tier talents will be gone. Gaines, J. Anderson, Branch, Russel, Quinn, Thomas, Johnson, and Adrian Peterson should all be taken with the previous 8 picks. Many people like Ted Ginn. However I do not believe it is smart to take a Return Specialist/Slot Reciever with the 9th overall pick. IMO, the Fins should trade down with this pick unless the top 2 QBs are still on the board or one of the top 8 players mentioned above are still availble.

Second Round
Quinn Pit****-DT-OSU or Brandon Mebane-DT-Cal
-OR-
If we do not take Levi Brown in the 1st round...
Joe Staley-OT-CMU or Arron Sears-OT-UT (whoever is available)
-OR-
Aaron Ross-CB-UT or Daymeion Hughes-CB-Cal

Third Round
If the Fins don't draft a CB in the 1st two rounds...
Tanard Jackson-CB-Syracuse
-OR-
If the Fins don't draft a WR in the 1st two rounds...
Johnnie Lee Higgins-WR-UTEP (Think Ginn)

Fourth Round
Martrez Miner-TE- UG
Athletic TE who will add speed and depth down the field. Needs to bulk up.
-OR-
David Irons-CB-Auburn
-OR-
Jon Abbate- ILB-Wake Forest
Tackling Machine.

Sixth Round
Dan Mosez-C-WVU
WVU had outstounding rushing numbers this year.

Seventh Round
Quinton Echols-DT-KSU
Giant in the middle. Might not be here, but with the 7th pick, who knows who's still gonna be around.
Regardless of who the Fins draft in the later rounds, they should add young depth at the DT position.
-OR-
Justin Medlock-K-UCLA
Might be better not to draft a kicker in the 7th bc the Fins can just add him as a free agent.

As you can see, I've created a draft which adds depth to the major needs such as the CB, OT, C, LB, and WR positions. I probably want the Fins to draft a QB more than any other Fin fan. However I do not believe it will be worth drafting any QBs (other than Russel or Quinn). Guys like Stanton, Leak, Palmer, Kolb, etc.. are not worth the pick. Smith might make it in the NFL but I do not believe it is worth the gamble.

not liking it to much.

Agreed.. Bowe at #9 is an incredible reach, I would hate to see that happen. SOMEONE real good is gonna be there at 9, it happens every year people don't go exactly where you think they will, but Bowe? Get out of here

whos "someone real good" is that gonna be? Bowe has been outstanding in Senior Bowl practices with garbage QBs and top CBs covering him. Scouts were calling him a faster Anquin Boldin

dont tell me ur another guy wanting Ted Ginn with the 9th pick...
I would like the Fins to trade down cuz there isnt top 10 talent after the top 8 guys I listed

Levi Brown at #9? That'd be great. But your alternatives? Nah. I don't think we need to pick up a WR at #9, since this is a pretty deep draft class at that position.

I also feel that the Fins could get a quality OT in the 2nd round as there are a high number of them... Heres the list...
1.Joe Thomas
2.Levi Brown
3.Joe Staley
4.Aaron Sears
5.Tony Ugoh

I believe the Fins could get Aaron Sears, Tony Ugoh, or Joe Staley in the 2nd round. Basically whoever makes it out of the 1st round.

That doesn't mean that they're as good as Levi Brown. Why not just wait on WR. Johnnie Lee Higgins may in fact be a poor man's Ted Ginn.

Dan Mozes will be gone long before the 6th round. He is one of the top if not THE top centers this year.

if we draft a kicker why not james wilhoit from tennessee or the kid from louisville that just won all the awards cant remember his name right now those are the top 2 college kickers availible

Top two kickers this year are mason crosby from colorado whos gonna be drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round and Justin Medlock from UCLA whos gonna go sometime in day 2 of the draft. Those are the best 2 kickers in the draft.

Definitely not the best or even one of the best centers in the draft. Its pretty much Ryan Khalil and then the rest of the pack.

I want a QB the 1st round, nothing else

Ok so regardless if Quin and Russel are off the board, you'd still want to go with a QB with the 9th pick?
