Hey guys this is my first mock and FA of the season. I hope you enjoy and at the end i will project the lineup and highlight rookies/new additions. I will try to be as realistic as possible.
FA
WR- With Marshall and Jackson slotted for FA it is easy to be :hi5: about them but they at worst they will get tagged and with a talent rich draft i am NOT a fan of giving up picks when positions of need have talent in this draft. So i go with .............
Malcolm Floyd , 6-5 225, I really like this guy big fast and goes hard on every snap. He is in the shadow of Jackson and I personally think he needs a chance to be a go to guy. His nickname is M80 cause he can explode at any time his career average is nearly 17 yards per catch that is exactly what we need
LB- Channing and Akin are good but not great they need to cover better and give us some BOOM on hits. I think Channing is a trade piece to get us more picks in the offseason i will get to that later.
Kirk Morrison- he isnt the biggest play maker but this guy can tackle and is a beast in the run. Consistent and could be just one new addition to the LB core
DT- we are not that deep and we will continue to run the 3-4 we need another NT to take Fergie's place.
Aubrayo Franklin- emerged as an elite NT this year there has been rumors that they will tag him but with the Hanyesworth contract being one of the one that makes the average they probably cant do that especially when they more than likely will be looking for a young QB. I say this is the biggest FA signing of the off season as we add an athletic NT to go into our rotation.
Draft- only doing the first 4 rounds
1st- Jerry Hughes OLB TCU 6-2 258, big strong fast BP type player. He is in the mold of a D Ware and could be lethal defiantly a ball hawking kind of guy who will make plays from day one no doubt he is the pick is he is there.
TRADE TRADE TRADE- we using Channing, Wilson and future picks find a way to get another early round second pick
2A- Morgan Burnett FS/SS GT 6-1 210, this is the 3rd best safety in the draft IMO behind only Berry and Thomas Mays is way over rated and over hyped Burnett plays the rover position at Georgia Tech, but he has the versatility to play either safety spot in the NFL. I know some of you will be saying we have clemons but with wilson being gone and the history of Bell and injuries this kid could be our future FS or SS and Clemons could be the other
2B- Micah Johnson MLB UK 6-2 258, this kid is a beast and has been All SEC a few times and with the SEC boasting some of the best defenders in the country this is a huge honor to be selected and to be first team is really saying something. His combine will shot him into the 1st round talk but injury history and some problems with direction change will lower him back down. he is a physical presence and the strongest guy on his team. He and Morrison should be a great combo he is pretty fast too running in the 4.6-4.7 range
3rd- Toby Gerhart RB Stanford 6-1 230- ok you may want to jump on me but BP loves hard nosed physical players this guy can be a RB FB H-back and never takes on play off and just runs people over he is physical and thats what we love about players. His style and work ethic could be contagious and i am not saying he will be a start but looking at the other RB that might be here (Hardesty, Scott) he is bigger and faster than them both and is probably more versatile so he is the pick
4th- Brandon Lang DE/OLB Troy 6-4 256- Went to the same school as D Ware and is in a similar mold as he is. Alittle raw but just a great pass rusher has unreal numbers in 2008 and was always in the backfield and this year is doing good but not fantastic that with being small school guy allows us to get him in the 4th. Total steal IMO needs some work but look how far Roth came and how far they think Wake will come this could be scary oh how good of a pass rush we have
so the projected lineup, player available not a depth chart
Offense
WR- Floyd, Hartline, Bess, Cam, Ginn
TE- Fasano, Sperry, Haynos
RB- Ronnie, Ricky, Gerhart, Lex (PS)
QB- Henne, Thigpen, White
OL- Long, Carey, Grove, Berger, Thomas, Smiley, Garner
FB- Polite, Gerhart
Defense- i think JT's time is up so he wont be on this sorry guys
CB's- Davis, Smith, Allen, Jones
S- Bell, Culver, Clemons, Burnett
OLB- Porter, Hughes, Lang, Anderson, Wake
ILB- Morrison, Ayodele, Torbor, Johnson
DE- Starks, Langford, Merling, McDaniel, Wake?
DT- Franklin, Soliai
so what do you guys think?
