My First Mock Draft (w/o trades)...

kbeath said:
We are good at DLine, O-line is OK, QB-OK, LB'S-OK, RB-NEED, WR-NEED, FB-GOOD, SAFTEY-OK, yes i believe we are ok at safety. With our biggest needs, i believe we go wr first concedering the depth at RB but only if we pick up a second for Surtain.

I think WR's is ok. Safety will be ok if we can get Knight back i wish. We do need to draft a QB though.

Been a while so here's my new modified mock draft:

Presuming that Saban and Rick choose the rational choice by rejecting these low draft pick offers for Surtain, Ricky comes back and Saban re-molds him, and no other deals.

1st round- QB Alex Smith: Having Feeley and Frerotte competing for the starting job makes me feel kinda scared. Though I'd rather see Feeley win out over Frerotte (whose performance with the Bengals makes me wonder if he only produces under a good O-Line), I'd like to see some young and untainted blood in the mix. Our only 1st round QB picks were Dan Marino and Bob Griese. Not a bad group to be included with and hopefully the trend continues. Smith's got potential as a field general with intangibles and plays in an open offensive scheme not too different from Linehan's Vikings. Of course, going RB wouldn't be a bad idea also. I just don't think we need to draft Braylon Edwards. BPA may not always be best player for the team. (Alternatives: Ronnie Brown, Cedric Benson)

3rd round- CB Corey Webster: Surtain and Madison are aging so having a guy that Saban knows could be useful in the future. He could team up well with Will Poole and has some potential. (Alternatives- WR Mark Clayton, LB Kevin Burnett, RB Eric Shelton, RB T.A. McLendon)

4th round- WR Courtney Roby: He has great speed and decent size to fill a 3rd down receiver role. He's related to the great Dolphins punter Roby (rest in peace) and that's a plus. And since Boston could be gone forever we may need a receiver to challenge Thompson.(Alternatives- LB Mike Goolsby, CB Corey Webster, S Ben Emanuel, CB Dustin Fox)

5th round- OT Rob Petitti: He's a good pass protector and run blocker. Isn't the best athlete-type but has the size and experience for a LT. I say dump Wade Smith and get this guy or Wesley Britt. He shut down Dwight Freeney in 2000. Nuff said. But since we are kinda soft on the safety positions, I'd love it if Miami drafts an alma mater from my school in Ben Emanuel, sleeper with potential and can fill the role if needed. (Alternatives- Ben Emanuel, LB Jonathan Welsh, OT Wesley Britt)

7th round- DT Anthony Bryant or Albert Means: He's a big guy who would fit well at a 3-4 and a good run stuffer. Stamina is an issue but at the 7th round can't ask for more. Won't be a factor in pass rushes so we can put him in as backup or on run plays (Alternatives- LB Jonathan Pollard, S Ben Emanuel, RB Frank Gore)

There's NO WAY Shazor goes in the 5th......he's easily a mid 2nd rounder at the latest IMO.

Lol, that's why I have an updated one in the post before.

I decided to upgrade my mock draft:

1st round- QB Alex Smith: Having Feeley and Frerotte competing for the starting job makes me feel kinda scared. Though I'd rather see Feeley win out over Frerotte (whose performance with the Bengals makes me wonder if he only produces under a good O-Line), I'd like to see some young and untainted blood in the mix. I just don't think we need to draft Braylon Edwards. BPA may not always be best player for the team. (Alternatives: Ronnie Brown, Cedric Benson)

3rd round- RB Eric Shelton: He's got a lotta upside in a RB heavy draft. He's got the size and specs to be a good RB that combines power with breakaway speed that few RBs have like the former #34 on our team. Just needs to learn to block better (Which Feeley or Frerotte will definitely need and especially Frerotte) and catch better and he'll do well.

5th round- S Ben Emanuel: HSince we are kinda soft on the safety positions, I'd love it if Miami drafts an alma mater from my school in Ben Emanuel, sleeper with potential and can fill the role if needed. (Alternatives- OT Rob Pettiti, LB Jonathan Welsh, OT Wesley Britt)

Undrafted FAs: LB Andre Frazier, LSU LB Lionel Turner, CB Michael Hawkins, G Sam Mayes, LB Mike Goolsby, TE Anthony Curtis, C Duke Preston

Time for a redraft:

1st round- QB Alex Smith: Having Feeley and Frerotte competing for the starting job makes me feel kinda scared. Though I'd rather see Feeley win out over Frerotte (whose performance with the Bengals makes me wonder if he only produces under a good O-Line), I'd like to see some young and untainted blood in the mix. I just don't think we need to draft Braylon Edwards. BPA may not always be best player for the team. (Alternatives: RB Ronnie Brown, RB Cedric Benson, CB Antrel Rolle, RB Cadillac Williams)

2nd round- CB Corey Webster: Since fan fave (hopefully true) Surtain is now a Chief, we might as well use the pick we got for him on a possible replacement. Poole may turn out well but Webster knows Saban's system and that's a huge advantage. A future CB tandem of Poole and Webster could be the next Surtain-Madison duo. We've had some good CB's recently like Pat, Sam, T-Buck, and Troy Vincent. But if we draft RB in the 1st, I think we should go for QB like McPherson. (Alternatives: QB Adrian McPherson, C Jason Brown, G Elton Brown, S Josh Bullocks)

Won't be a factor in pass rushes so we can put him in as backup or on run plays (Alternatives- LB Jonathan Pollard, S Ben Emanuel, RB Frank Gore, K Tyler Jones)

First time making a mock draft so here goes:

1st round- RB Cedric Benson: He's got mileage but so did Ricky and before the mental issues came in did well for quite a while. Sure, he's got legal issues but so does Jamal Lewis. He can move a pile which could be handy. (Alternatives-Ronnie Brown, Cadillac Williams, or Derrick Johnson if we get a FA RB)

3rd round- C Ben Wilkerson: As much as I think McKinney can improve under Houck and be as good as his bro for the Texans. I'm thinking Saban goes with a guy he knows. But he's gotta start gaining more weight. (Alternatives- Rob Petitt, Ernest Shazor, Mark Clayton)

4th round- OT Rob Petitt: He's a good pass protector and run blocker. Isn't the best athlete-type but has the size and experience for a LT. He shut down Dwight Freeney in 2000. Nuff said. (Alternatives- Ben Wilkerson, LB Barrett Ruud, Ernest Shazor, Luis Castillo)

5th round- S Ernest Shazor: I'm thinking he may turn out as a young faster Sammy Knight and should get tutored by the original. Also, he may fill in at LB sometimes as some safeties do. I'd like to see him work a bit more on coverage (Alternatives- LB Barrett Ruud, Luis Castillo, LB Kenneth Pettway)

7th round- DT Anthony Bryant: He's a big guy who would fit well at a 3-4 and a good run stuffer. Stamina is an issue but at the 7th round can't ask for more. Won't be a factor in pass rushes so we can put him in as backup or on run plays (Alternatives- QB Jason White, LB Jonathan Pollard, S Ben Emanuel)

I didn't include any trades for Surtain or other, since I'm holding out hope that the Fins can't find a palatable offer and try to continue restructure negotiations. So that's it. Tell me what you thin
