I will analyze a few players first then put a different spin on the draft.
Dorsey, he is too small as a NT in a 3 - 4 defense so he is out.
McFadden, would be a luxury pick at a position we have our most depth with so he is out
Chris Long/Gholston, there too small in a 3 -4 defense to play ends so they are OLB's. Who do you bench Porter or JT so these guys get playing time? So they are out aswell.
Matt Ryan, we cant protect QB's and RB's so I see no need to draft more dead meat. I would also like to add Ryan does not come across as ELITE.
Jake Long, too me the only player that makes sense. Most agree his downside is a probowl RT and his ceiling is a very good LT. He fills a position of need aswell.
Never the less here is my spin on the draft.
What happens if we run a 4 - 3 defense? All of a sudden Chris Long/Dorsey/Gholston all become great fits for our team. I would still draft Jake Long yet I would feel comfortable with the above 3 if we went 4 -3. I think in a 4 - 3 our defense would be much much better with the above players.
I guess the biggest question is does a team run a system that doesnt fit their players or do they run a system that best suits their players?
As for the second and third rounds we should look for trades, I think there is great value there. As for trading the first overall? I think trading the first overall pick is a pipe dream. I mean if you had picks from 2 - 5 would you trade to move up? I wouldnt.
