Yesterday I started a thread about how I feel that teams don't gameplan very well for NE, and everything the Pats do week after week seems like a surprise to the team they are playing. A popular reponse to my thread was, "OH another person who has no respect for NE". Well, I have great respect for them which is exactly why i would try to surprise them with my gameplan. Keep in mind I'm not an X's and O's expert by any means and I'm positive there are many posters who know a lot more than me when it comes to that. So here is my plan speaking generally:

On offense
Some points about NE:
I still feel their secondary is their biggest weakness, but they have been able to cover that up becuase their front 7 is dominating right now.
They will attempt, and often succeed, to take away what you do best.

Plan
Run the ball enough to keep them honest, but I would never enter the game expecting a big rushing day. Are backs are talented enough that even if NE is stuffing the run, they will still have to respect it and play fakes will still be an option.

Max protect on passing downs, I see no reason why our WR's can't get open against that secondary without sending 4 or 5 guys out in patterns. The only way to get to the weakness of the Pats (Secondary) is to nuetralize their strength (front 7). We can slide a back underneath from time to time also.

Get Marty Booker involved early. NE loves to take your best player away, if we show them we will go to Booker and he can make the play, we may have an easier time getting Chambers involved later on.

Maybe one gadget play, but don't go nuts.

Go for a 4th down if the instance is right, long field goal, short punt or 4th and 3 GO FOR IT.

Defense

Play Pass, Pass and Pass, attempt to stop Dillon with the front 7 and only change that strategy if he's running wild. Leave the safties back and cover, and try to get pressure with the front 4 and maybe 1 LB, don't blitz on every down, like we usually do, but pick the spots to blitz. Make sure the Pats don't isolate anyone on Reggie Howard at any time and god dammit if Mike Vrabel is in the game at the goal line have someone cover him.

offense

Crossing routes, crossing routes, and more crossing routes in the passing game, they often play zone and if a guy like chambers finds the soft spot in the zone watch out

Run ricky around the outside opposite of mcmichael, they are tough up the middle but their linebackers arnt super fast like others they have to respect Mcmichael with a LB over him so that takes away one guy, darian barnes our fullback can make a block that takes away another and 1 on 1 I trust ricky or ronnie on the outside

Well yea i agree on most parts.

My plan, like you said throw throw throw because this secondary is beatin up. But keep in mind Bruschi went out and this defense was HORRIBLE in every aspect before he came back. So we should put up massive points against them.

However there passing game will likely light up our secondary as well. I say drop into 7 man coverages a lot and rely on our 4 down linemen to get pressure on Brady and force Dillon to run the ball.

I dont know, thats my idea. The best idea would be to KILL THE PATS!

On defense

Just put pressure on brady and he shows his true mistake making colors

Without his O-line he isnt as great as he is made to seem, we see it first hand twice a year

We need to realize that Tom Brady really IS that good. He is the best in the league IMO and doesnt make mistakes. He will make our secondary look like pop warner guys.

Like when he threw 4 INTS last year?

Every time we play him he looks terrible

and why? because we put pressure on him he's great when he can just sit in the pocket but when things start to break down he is terrible

This is actually the most reasonable post I've ever read by an opponent's fan on how to play the Pats.

But enough with the popsicle-sucking: I'll add, the Fins would be best served getting their TE involved early in the passing game. And the Fins best not stop-at-least-trying to run the ball NO MATTER THE SCORE, or the Pats will unleash the hounds. :buttkick:

Defensively, the Fins better play run first, b/c I guarantee that's what you're going to see out of the Pats. If the Fins can stop Dillon with the front 7, it'll be a close game; if not, game over b/c Brady has a full arsenal of healthy weapons that he'll spread out receptions to. They have been the best draw/screen team in the league for 5 years now, so if the Fins are going to blitz, they better not show their hand.

I hope J Taylor gets food poisoning before the game, b/c he is a Pats killler. The Pats always try to mano-a-mano him and he always makes at least one big play against them.:yell:

I forgot that you measure a guy off one game.

Nice post, but the Pats are going to rest players and will show nothing one
game before the start of the playoffs.

Not really sure about that one. The 3 seed is still in reach and i imagine they would prefer neting that and not playing Indy till the AFCC game. Thats just my opinion though

You mean when QBs get pressure they don't play as well? Brady's had a 4 INT game every year of his career as a starter, and he's had some early success in his career, wouldn't you say? Still, point given: the Fins have played him better consistently than anyone else. Maybe if the Fins could make the playoffs, they'd finally be the team to send Brady home with his first playoff loss.:chuckle:

BTW: I would like to thank the Dolphin organization for letting P Surtain get out of the division. :drinkers: He was a Pat's killer as well.

Its not just pressure he gets confused with the looks we give him. Well Teddy might not play so if hes out run it up the gut and open up the pass. Use all options on the passing game, Ronnie, Wes, McMike Booker and Ricky they got to take the focus off of Chris so that he can get open and make a play.

On Defense: stop the run and make sure Howard misses his flight, confuse Brady but dont get cute, hes a smart QB. They have alot of depth and lots of talented weapons, but Our Defensive Backs should be able to handle them.

and you mean QB's play better when they have a great o-line and stand up strait in the pocket? wow I never knew that

When he has time he is dangerous but making decisons on the fly with guys flashing in front of him...No i wouldnt trust him
