Before I start, let me make it perfectly clear that I have been a huge Beck supporter from the start. I was thrilled when Miami drafted him. I'd done research on him when Boomer had mentioned his name and by the time I was done, I wanted him to be the QB of the future more than Quinn. So you can understand how upset I was when Miami drafted Henne last weekend. I've always been under the impression that you can't judge a QB in his first year no matter how much of a joke he looks like out there (and Beck did look pretty terrible).

So, now that I've had some time to let the roster sink in a little better and to get a good taste of how things are looking to sort out, I've started to change my opinion on things. I'm still not the biggest Henne fan and I'm definitely still pulling for Beck to come in and snag the starting role and become the great QB that I think he can be, but I think that having Henne there as a backup in case he doesn't develop into that QB is a pretty smart bet.

You pretty much can't win in this league without above average (at least) play from your QB. Having Henne and Beck as two young guys in the QB role means that we have a much better chance of finding that above average QB that can lead us to the playoffs. I guess what I'm saying is that I'm willing to take some of those eggs out of my Beck basket and put them in the Henne basket. I really do feel that our new coaching staff won't be as eager to just put "their guy" in that they will disregard the fact that we could have other quality players on the field. I think we'll see a good competition and a clear cut winner in the end.

So now that I'm on the "all for the good of the team" bandwagon, I was wondering how many of you out there have been on one side or the other and have slowly been gravitating towards the middle. Are there any Henne fans out there that will still be happy if Beck wins the job or any more (like me) who are Beck fans that will still be happy if Henne wins it?

I've wanted Beck to develop into a superstar from the day he was drafted (like the rest of us). Since that is not a sure thing, I understand the team selecting a player they felt was value at number 57 (henne).

If Beck falters and Henne steps in, it was a smart move. If Beck becomes a superstar and Henne also becomes a good QB, it was a smart move (a la Schaub). If Beck develops and Henne falters, or they both fail, it was a good plan that didn't pan out.

I have no problem with intense competition (at every position), quality depth (at every position), and valuable, coveted players that can be traded for other players or for draft picks (at every position).

These have been my feelings exactly for the last week. I wouldn't say I was upset that we took Henne, just a little surprised.

I would love for Beck to be the winner, but I could really care less as long as we end up with a good starting QB. If Beck is given the shot he deserves and he fails, then so be it. Bring on Henne.

I am a Michigan fan and you can call me a homer, but if Beck gives us a better chance and can lead us to a super bowl then GO BECK. You need talent in this league and good backups are needed at ever position.

There's no doubt that I'm a Beck fan. But, I've said all along that I'm:

For QB competition
Knew Miami would be drafting another
The best man should win

Of course, personally, I hope that's Beck, but I'm liking what Miami is doing right now. There will be solid competition, and the winner will know he's got solid backups behind him which will eventually lead to a good trade somewhere.

I'm on the "May the best man win" wagon, right now. Everyone join up! It'll all get sorted out in the coming months, have no doubt.

Im a Beck fan but if Henne wins the job then I will support him.

Beck hasn't had a chance to play really. I can't look at last season and say "he had his chance and he's terrible". I'm sorry, but no QB could of played well with that team and that Oline.
Saying that, I'll have to say that Beck has an extra year with the playbook but he's still a green rookie.
So I'd like to see him get a solid chance with a line that can block and some running backs to help. Lets see how it goes. None of us here are GM's or coaches.

I think drafting Henne was a great move casue i truly dont think he will start but i do believe he will push John Beck to be the best he can. Casue with competition people become better or they fall and i think Beck will rise to the top.

i'm all for whoever is the best, but i prefer Beck to be great because that would probably mean he had a year under his belt and thus got great faster than Henne.

when they asked beck about the fins drafting another qb he spoke like a true football player saying the right words , maybe he is maturing right before our very eyes and also heard hes been working on his throw all off season throwing tons of passes with dolphins trainers

The decision will be made by Sparano, but I assure you that Parcells will mention all the problems that rookie QBs encounter. I think it is likely that McNown will start the first game because he has more experience, but Beck has a good shot at starting the first game. Henne is a long shot.
