I've been adding and removing names the past few days, except for the 1st rounder of course, which is a definite in my mind. This is more how I think they should do it, NOT a prediction of what I think our Phins will do.
1. Adam Carriker DE Nebraska - games are won up front and he will be the best lineman on the board when we pick. In my opinion, the safest picks in the entire draft are Calvin Johnson, Adam Carriker, Patrick Willis and Ryan Kalil.
2. LaMarr Woodley OLB/DE Michigan - fast, athletic tweener who would be a nice replacement in David Bowens' old roles on the team. Could fill in at SOLB or OE in the Dolphins defense and may eventually replace one of the two starters in a couple of years.
2a. Doug Free OT Northen Illinois - Has the physical tools to play RT right away and in time could develop into a solid LT. He’d provide depth and competition at the OT spots and could also play guard if needed, based on his ability to pull, trap and block downfield.
3. Samson Satele C Hawaii - 2nd best center in the draft and Cam believes in building from the inside out. He has a strong base and good balance with plenty of experience as a pass blocker, which is an area we really need to upgrade in the interior.
4. Johnnie Lee Higgins WR Texas-El Paso – Has excellent deep speed and would help us stretch the field. He is a fine leaper, solidly built and was very productive at UTEP. Also has experience as a KO returner. Probably the 3rd fastest prospect in this draft, after Ginn and Figurs.
6. Matt Gutierrez QB Idaho State – Michigan transfer was compared there to Tom Brady and has the tools and mental makeup to be the #1 sleeper amongst all QBs in this draft.
6a. Kyle Cook OG/C Michigan State - has been showing enough in workouts to make him a consideration at either guard or center. Houck reportedly has some interest in him and he has the upper body strength to be the type of inside player Hudson seems to prefer.
7. Dante Rosario TE Oregon - TE is a very important part of Cameron's offense and right now we have two very average TEs and a bunch of throwaways. He opened a lot of eyes with a solid combine performance and his skills would translate well to Cam's offense, in my opinion.
7a. Matt Toeaina DL Oregon – Quick strong and versatile technician could provide solid depth at any line position in the 3-4 or 4-3 and could eventually compete for a starting job on the inside. I like the Samoan kids as a general rule, b/c they are usually intense, naturally strong and powerful. Matt has a 455 bench and a 368 lb power clean and could be our NT in a few years.
