I've been adding and removing names the past few days, except for the 1st rounder of course, which is a definite in my mind. This is more how I think they should do it, NOT a prediction of what I think our Phins will do.

1. Adam Carriker DE Nebraska - games are won up front and he will be the best lineman on the board when we pick. In my opinion, the safest picks in the entire draft are Calvin Johnson, Adam Carriker, Patrick Willis and Ryan Kalil.

2. LaMarr Woodley OLB/DE Michigan - fast, athletic tweener who would be a nice replacement in David Bowens' old roles on the team. Could fill in at SOLB or OE in the Dolphins defense and may eventually replace one of the two starters in a couple of years.

2a. Doug Free OT Northen Illinois - Has the physical tools to play RT right away and in time could develop into a solid LT. He’d provide depth and competition at the OT spots and could also play guard if needed, based on his ability to pull, trap and block downfield.

3. Samson Satele C Hawaii - 2nd best center in the draft and Cam believes in building from the inside out. He has a strong base and good balance with plenty of experience as a pass blocker, which is an area we really need to upgrade in the interior.

4. Johnnie Lee Higgins WR Texas-El Paso – Has excellent deep speed and would help us stretch the field. He is a fine leaper, solidly built and was very productive at UTEP. Also has experience as a KO returner. Probably the 3rd fastest prospect in this draft, after Ginn and Figurs.

6. Matt Gutierrez QB Idaho State – Michigan transfer was compared there to Tom Brady and has the tools and mental makeup to be the #1 sleeper amongst all QBs in this draft.

6a. Kyle Cook OG/C Michigan State - has been showing enough in workouts to make him a consideration at either guard or center. Houck reportedly has some interest in him and he has the upper body strength to be the type of inside player Hudson seems to prefer.

7. Dante Rosario TE Oregon - TE is a very important part of Cameron's offense and right now we have two very average TEs and a bunch of throwaways. He opened a lot of eyes with a solid combine performance and his skills would translate well to Cam's offense, in my opinion.

7a. Matt Toeaina DL Oregon – Quick strong and versatile technician could provide solid depth at any line position in the 3-4 or 4-3 and could eventually compete for a starting job on the inside. I like the Samoan kids as a general rule, b/c they are usually intense, naturally strong and powerful. Matt has a 455 bench and a 368 lb power clean and could be our NT in a few years.

We badly need to improve our secondary and your picking us two backups with our 1st two picks. Unbeleivable

I like your choice's of Free and Satele but if we don't take them both in the second we will only get one of them.

Isn't Higgins projected 2nd round, c'mon guys, we need to keep it real.

C-

Wrong pay more attention to draft stock and Higgins' is on the way down. You drafted two backups but soon to be big time starters necessary for keeping this defense the way it is. Picking straight up for need is how you get a bust.

You want to be like the Patriots? Then draft the best players period.

Karriker at #9!? You might get some hate mail on these boards for that, but man I'd take it. GO BIG RED! I believe he could come in and start day 1. You put Holliday at NT, Roth and Karriker at DE, with Porter and Taylor at OLB, Thomas and Crowder ILB...sick man. Just sick.

If we didn't take Kalil (if available) with our 2nd pick, then Samson Satele would be solid in the 3rd. I'm not sold on Doug Free though. Personally, I'd take Ryan Harris over him...and Harris you could get in the 3rd.

Woodley with 2nd pick...I wouldn't go that route. Don't need him. And the one thing that hurts us the most, no secondary picks anywhere. Our front 7 would be deadly, but our DBs would SUCK AGAIN!!!

My friend after thinking about it, the only thing I disagree about is that Woodley selection versus a secondary selection. I realize it's a talented class of DEs but a player who could also compete for a full starting job could be selected at 40. Whether that's a cornerback or safety.

Bravo otherwise...

Anyone who thinks Carriker isn't worth the 9th overall pick is just ignorant.
He'll be the next Dan Hampton IMO.
You can never have enough depth on the DL. Even if Adam didn't start, he'd see plenty of action rotating series with Roth and Holliday, keeping them all fresh. Then in the 4th quarter, they'd be even more devastating.

IMO, we need a guy like Woodley to back up Taylor and Porter. Right now, there is next to nothing behind them. If we had resigned Bowens, then I would agree.
I'd not be against adding a DB at some point, and if I do another mock draft, I'll put one in there.
I do think our DBs will be better than last year even if the same group, just by Jason Allen being more experienced and hopefully Travis Daniels won't be playing through an ankle injury all year. Bell being a starter all year should help too. Hope we get him locked up long term sometime soon. If he signs the RFA tender, he'll be a UFA again next year.

At some point we need a guy who can replace Bowens. We could add a guy like Meriweather at #40 and hope for Moses or Bazuin in the 4th. Then we'd need a WR later on, and may have to forgo the 3rd OL or take the WR with the last pick, and hope we strike gold like NO did last year. :)

Dan Hampton? He was a DT not a DE.He's a good player tho but I don't see us going DE with our top 2 picks.

Ozzy rules!!

Hampton could play end or tackle in the 4-3, so can Carriker. If Hampton would have played in a 3-4, he'd have been a LDE.
When Hampton played on the Bears DL with McMichael, Perry and Dent, which position do you think he played?

I guess we don't need anyone decent to back up Taylor or Porter? We currently have Akbar Gbaja-Biamila as the only player behind Taylor and our backup at SAM is Jim Maxwell. Sorry, but that does not make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Woodley is NOT even close to the same type of player that Carriker is. Their roles would be entirely different, so to just say we would be drafting two DEs is overly simplistic.

I don't like it. The defense was good this year but Miami needs offense. They will go nowhere again with an offense of Culpepper, Brown, Chambers, Booker, Martin, and an average o-line. Culpepper is finished. Most of this draft should be offense. I'd improve the defense next year through the draft. The defense is old but it's not like Taylor, Thomas, Holliday, and Porter are in their last year.

That not what i would call solution. If every part of our defense is aging and we do nothing, then a whole new set of rockies next season to replace would mean to lose no just this, but next in rebuilding.
Cam is worried about offense, so has target OT, G, C, QB and perhaps WR and even RB as wish list for the draft. At defense, NT, CB, DE and FS are holes to fill. But our coaching staff and front office know that after the draft there will be tons of cuts and some positions will be fixed with free agents.
So don't become crazy and wait until the end of free agency to qualify the new order at home.

Higgins ran a 4.34 and a 4.39 forty at his pro day so I doubt very much he is slipping!

I am torn. Here's what I am thinking. You should be drafting first day picks to start or make specific contributions in their first year. The only exception to this is QB's, who take longer to groom. On the other hand, if you don't take BPA, then sooner or later, the overall depth of your team will suffer. Most mock drafts have us taking Brown at #9. Why, because he fills a need and would start from day one, plus it is a weak draft for o-line and if we don't take him at #9 the Texan's will probably take him at #10. However, I think if we don't take him we should go defence with first pick. BTW, I don't want us to take Brown at all.
If we are going to draft defence, there are three guys under consideration at #9. They are Carriker, Hall, and Willis. The defence had 47 (?) sacks last year. Despite adequate pressure on the opposition QB we could only manage 9 interceptions and only 5 of those came from DB's. So the defensive pick based purely on need would have to be Hall in my opinion. However, there is no doubt in my mind that Willis is BPA at that point. He is supposed to be a middle linebacker, but he could also back up at OLB. Carriker is the odd man out in this scenario.
However, what if Peterson falls to #9? The Dolphins war room will be a very busy place indeed. If we traded down with Buffalo or Grenn Bay and still wanted to go defence with our first pick and Carriker would be a great choice as BPA/value. Also, I believe that, to a large extent, the winner and loser of a football game is determined by which team wins the battle of the trenches. When in doubt, fortify the line. If we trade down to #16, Carriker may be gone, but we could still get Revis, the CB from Pittsburgh
Now, if we go defence with first pick then we have to go best o-line available at #40. There is going to be a run on o-line between 33-40. The best o-line available at that point may be Sears, the guard from Tennessee. Even though I understand your point about losing Bowens and needing a tweener to back up Porter and Taylor, we can't win if we don't move the ball. On average, 16 points per game is pretty pathetic, so we need to resupply the o-line here, if we don't take Brown at #9.
At #60, we have options. We still need to address our pathetic secondary, WR, or QB of the future. If QB Stanton or WR Gonzales are available here, they should be chosen. Otherwise it's the best safety or corner available. I believe we should go corner because there is good safety value in round #4. Jackson, MacCauley, Wilson or Wright should be the pick here.
At# 71 I like both Higgins or Satele. Al Davis loves speedy WR. So, if he doesn't take CJ at #1, Higgins will be gone early rd3. So let's take Satele for all the reasons you have already mentioned.
At # 108 we have to go safety. Possibilities include Payne, Johnson and Gattis.
At # 181 We should go WR. Stuckey from Clemson or Broussard from San Jose State would be good value here.
At # 199. A guy like Dan Santucci who can play centre or guard would be ideal here.
At #219. take another safety like Darren Stone from Maine. At the worst, he will be a special teams standout.
At #238. I think we should draft a punter. I read somewhere Jones' net droped about 4 yards per punt last year from the year before.
