Chicago Bears GM
Okay this is my ideal draft, a few guys may not be there when we pick however I am trying to avoid extreme reaches.
1) Tedd Ginn (WR)
Why: I was very low on him to end the season, but Boomer and CK sold me on him well enough that I would like him here unless the obvious choice (Brady Quinn) fell. Speed and shifty moves can create space as a WR and he definitely has both. He could make an immediate impact to our return game as well.
*Note 2a and 2b could be flip flopped, either guy could last until our second pick in the second round but I believe both present great value. Also note that I would love Staley at #40 but I don't see him being available. If he were to be by some miracle I would insert him at #40 and Kolb at #60
2a) Kevin Kolb (QB)
Why: He is a smart, tough kid who can command respect and run an offense. He doesn't have a gun for an arm like some guys, but he is my #2 rated QB in the draft behind Quinn and I believe with Cam as a tutor he can be something special.
2b) Brandon Merriweather (FS/CB)
Why: I followed his whole career at Miami and he is going to be a star. He has had a couple minor incidents on and off the field but trust me when I say he isn't a bad guy and won't be getting into trouble at the pro level. He is physical enough to play the run but has amazing ball skills and always seems to be in good position.
3) Justin Blaylock (G)
Why: We need young quality depth on the o-line. Toledo is far from a sure thing, and Blaylock would be great competition for him. Not to mention should Alabi fail at LT we could move Carey there, Shelton to RT, and Blaylock to RG.
4) Doug Datish (C/G)
Why: Hadnot was a decent center last season but not great by any means. The center is the guy that leads the line, points out assignments and fires everyone up. As I said Hadnot was decent last season but we can improve over him for sure.
6) Earl Everett (LB)
Why: Because linebackers play one of the most physical positions on the field and will get hurt. It is nice to have depth behind them, and Everett is a guy who can play special teams for us even if he never gets other gametime.
7a) Anthony Purdwell (TE)
Why: Because we need a TE to compete for a spot on this team. He is a pretty good blocker who can improve with work, and has decent hands.
7b) David Ball (WR)
Why: I am very very very high on him. He had a horrible combine, but every single time the guy steps on the field he makes plays. In the Shrine Game (I believe it was) he made a couple big plays, and he has something that most guys don't. He has intangibles at the WR position, good size and amazing hands that are second to none. In terms of speed....think slightly faster than Orande (though in terms of game speed he seems much faster)
Anyway if we walked away with this draft I would be very happy, I just can't wait for the day to come. Whoever we pick I hope they will work hard to bring respect back to our orginization.
EDIT: For some reason I think I missed a pick If I did it doesn't really matter, this in general is just what I would like to see.
