This is the first Mock draft my friend and i have made together. He is a Jaguars fan and I of course love the dolphins. We tried to make it as objective as we could. Also this Mock draft is without any trades.
Your thoughts
1.) Oakland- QB, JaMarcus Russel, LSU- They have passed on a QB several times in the last few years and look where it has gotten them. Russel may not be able to contribute right away, but the potential is there for him to be the big armed QB the Al Davis loves.
2.) Detroit- OT, Joe Thomas, Wisconsin- Seems to be the lock of the draft at this spot. Thomas can help beef up a bad run offense (less than 4 yards per carry) and protect am immobile Jon Kitna.
3.) Cleveland- QB, Brady Quinn, Notre Dame- Two words… Romeo and Charlie. The two former NE coaches passing info to each other, along with Cleveland needing a QB makes this a logical pick.
4.) Tampa Bay- WR, Calvin Johnson, Georgia Tech- Michael Clayton doesn’t appear to be the answer, and Johnson will be a contributor right away to an offense that lacked a study playmaker last season.
5.) Arizona- DE/OLB, Gaines Adams, Clemson- It isn’t clear yet whether Arizona will stay in a 4-3 or move to a 3-4, so the versatile Adams will be a safe pick who can add a spark to an average defense.
6.) Washington- DT, Alan Branch, Michigan- There is talent on this side of the ball, but a space eater like Branch will solidify a mediocre run defense.
7.) Minnesota- WR, Dwayne Jarrett, USC- A lackluster WR group and a young QB (Jackson) makes Jarrett a logical pick.
8.) Houston- RB, Adrian Peterson, Oklahoma- The Texans select a running back this year and hope that the fans forget about last year’s blunder of taking Williams over Bush.
9.) Miami- CB, Leon Hall, Michigan- He has been performing at the level that scouts expected he would at the senior bowl. He had a great year last year and would be able to start week 1 barring any contract disputes. Hall would immediately help out our secondary that only had 8 interceptions last year. Taking offensive lineman, Levi Brown here would most likely be a reach following his average play at the senior bowl.
10.) Atlanta- S, LaRon Landry, LSU- Versatile safety could help a talented D reach the next level.
11.) San Francisco- DE, Jamal Anderson, Arkansas- A playmaker who will be a good DE in their 3-4 scheme.
12.) Buffalo- OT, Levi Brown, Penn St.- Willis McGahee didn’t perform up to his standards last season, and a sub par offensive line was a big reason why. Brown is big and should definitely help the run.
13.) St. Louis – Amobi Okoye, DT- UL
The Rams Defensive line gets younger and more explosive with this selection.
14.) Carolina – Reggie Nelson, S- UF
Panthers look to Nelson to create more turnovers.
15.) Pittsburgh – Darrelle Revis, CB- Pitt
The Steelers look to a local product to help a weak secondary.
16.) Green Bay – Marshawn Lynch, RB- Cal.
Regardless of weather Farve returns RB is a position they need to address.
17.) Jacksonville – Michael Griffin, S- Texas
This isn’t a very attractive pick, but I honestly feel that we won’t take Ginn, and could get a burner in the 2nd round or free agency (Stallworth?). Honestly, safety is a question mark. Deon Grant isn’t getting any younger, and Darius can’t seem to escape the injury bug. Griffin can play either position and will bring immediate help as a backup and special teamer. He could be starting by the end of the season.
18.) Cincinnati – Marcus McCaully, CB, Fresno St.
The team was awful against the pass last season, and with Joseph’s arrest, this isn’t a far fetched pick.
19.) Tennessee – Ted Ginn Jr., WR, Ohio St.
There isn’t a lot of speed at the WR position, and Ginn can help stretch the field for Vince Young.
20.) NY Giants – Justin Blaylock, G, Texas
The Giants offensive line did have its high points as it paved the way for great games for Barber, however without him this line wont look as good. Also they’re offensive line was heavily penalized for boneheaded plays, a versatile lineman will fill any hole needed on the o-line.
21.) Denver – Quinton Mosses, DE, Georgia
Moss or Mosses? Either one would help a defensive end unit that was lead by Dumerville and Eukerbon. Mosses seams to fit Denver’s big defensive end trend, so he seems like the pick here.
22.) Dallas – Dwayne Bowe, WR, LSU
A WR isn’t a far stretch because of T.O’s antics and Glenn’s age. A impressive senior bowl week has shot his draft stock up.
23.) Kansas City – Patrick Willis, LB, Ole Miss
The chiefs defense wasn’t that good in many area’s so this selection will help out a lot in the run department and at least noticeable in the passing department.
24.) New England – Paul Posluszny, LB, Penn State
The Patriots are pretty old at linebacker and Paul seems to be the Blue-collar guy that they like.
25.) NY Jets – Kenny Irons, RB, Auburn
Leon Washington did admirably, but was consistent enough. Irons can add another dimension to a solid offense that will have the games best o-line in a few years.
26.) Philadelphia – Jarvis Moss, DE, Florida
The team lacked a true pass rusher last season, even though they did get 40 sacks as a team. A quick DE like Moss can make the defense even better.
27.) New Orleans- Lawrence Timmons, OLB, Florida St.
The Saints run defense wasn’t that good and Timmons will add some much need athleticism to the Linebacker position.
28.) New England - Quinn Pit****, DT, Ohio St.
The Patriots almost always draft the best person available and Pit**** is the best person here, he will add so always appreciated depth to the 3-4 Line. He is only available here because of his bad play in the senior bowl.
29.) Baltimore – Michael Bush, RB, Louisville
Jamal Lewis averaged less than 4 yards per carry last season and it is time for new blood. Bush can help an nemic offense get back on track and into the superbowl.
30.) San Diego – Sidney Rice, WR, SC
A number of WRs can be taken here, but Rice is one of the most explosive left on the board.
31.) Indianapolis- Earl Everett, LB, UF
Their defense tightened up in the playoffs this year but you cannot consistently give up 120+ yards rushing. Everett is a stereotypical run stopper, but he flies around and makes plays, something the Colts need.
32.) Chicago- Zach Miller, TE, Arizona State
Desmond Clark has done an amazing job blocking however he leaves something to be desired in the passing game, Miller can fill that void.
