My Observations From The Game and Press Conferences

Dead serious.

Moore was playing against a first team D while RT was playing against 2-3rd team D. Big difference there. Moore was above average with his play, moving the ball down the field with ease. RT also was above average with his play. He moved the ball down the field and got some good pick ups.

Again, the difference is Moore did it against the starting unit D. RT did it against players that might not even make the roster. Not taking anything away from Ryan, i'm just saying his performance wasn't better than Moore's. Now if RT does that against a first unit D than we can talk, but for now Moore has the edge.

Tampa came into the game ready to play. We started out flat. Moore did ok against TB's #1's considering the drops(Johnson) and cohesiveness issues we had at the start of the game. The two missed field goals really hurt too.
The Moore interception was a tipped ball, RT had a tipped ball too, but he was more lucky.
RT did well against the back ups. He was accurate and took some chances that payed off. The talent is there.
When RT can play at a high level against a starting defense, I will be convinced. Hopefully he will start game 2 or 3 so we can truly evaluate him. It would be only one game, but it would confirm what we are hoping..that RT can start the season.

Moore didn't look comfortable out there. Tannehill came in, and especially in the second half, looked like he actually knew what he was doing. After 1 game, I definitely think Tannehill had the edge.

Nice observations. Agree with it all.

Moore vs TH is easy - TH should play with the starters next week & let Moore play with the 2nd team. While TH played against 2nd team (and lower), he also played with the 'fins 2nd team. Only fair way is give him a chance with the starters now.

I agree with a previous post in not to overreact either for or against any particular issue. It's the first preseason game, and there wasnt a team that has played thus far that looked great. The one thing that bothered be about the defense was the poor tackling (hitting guys instead of wrapping up) and poor angles of pursuit. I hope through film study and coaching we can get these corrected.

Should be interesting to hear the hard knocks drama from this game. Chad's drop and the fall out. Vontae's demotion, and poor play. RT17's impressive start. Many good story lines that should keep us entertained.

Koa Misi was probably the only starter on D that played well.
I am also impressed with the way Richrd Marshall plays the run.

Not many of you are happy with the outcome of the game or with how the first-team offense performed. I agree that the starters need work.

-The offensive line still needs time to get it together
-Matt Moore wasn't bad - the tipped ball was unfortunate and Chad Johnson needs to catch that third down pass.
-Reggie looked good in his limited time. Running backs and receivers will get tired in this offense so I anticipate a nice offensive rotation
-The pace was phenomenal. It was great seeing the quarterbacks go up to the line and bark out calls/audibles.
-Tannehill knows this offense better than the other two quarterbacks and that was apparent.
-Speaking of Tannehill - the dude is making a case for himself. If he puts together another preseason performance like that against Carolina, you could be seeing your third preseason game starter (The most important game for evaluating your starters in the preseason)
-Besides Chad's drop, our receivers looked good. Naanee looked like he was getting some nice spacing. Pruitt and Wallace also looked the part.
-Fasano will be valuable to this offense. His ability to block and catch showed. He converted those two early first downs and also set some nice blocks that gave Reggie some running room.
-Egnew was inconsistent, but the ability is there. Had a great catch when the ball was tipped in the air.
-Clay will be a valuable asset in this offense with his ability to get yards after the catch.
-Secondary looked bad. But let's remember, defensive gameplans throughout preseason are VERY vanilla. Not a lot of blitzes and pressure scenarios.
-Richard Marshall impressed me with his tackling. Sean Smith did not. Chris Clemons also needs to stop trying to bring guys down from the shoulder pads.
-Jason Trusnik secured his spot as a backup and special teams player. Dude was all over the place
-Rishard Matthews looked solid as a returner. Would like to see more from him as a receiver.
-According to several players in their press conferences, the pace of practice made this game seem a lot more slowed down. That is a good thing.

I'm tired so that's all I will write. I'll be making a Ryan Tannehill highlight video tomorrow so I'll put the link in a new thread whenever that's finished.

I agree 100%, the starters need work and time.

not sure if serious.

did u even watch the game? are offense was flat out dead with moore out there, not to mention he ran with the starters!!!!! and tannenhill had backups!! fact of the matter is, tannenhill has no fear, he throws a dart far downfield almost everytime because of how much faster he scans the field than moore and henne and has confidense in his accuracy to get the ball where he wants it, something henne never had.. He is not thinking checkdown first like our previous qbs.

On the first drive Moore had three or four first downs before being let down by Johnson going into red zone. He then got a couple of first downs before being stopped on second drive after false start penalty. Then he was driving again before unfortunate interception. We never went three and Out. Would hardly call the offense flat. Without some bad breaks that weren't Moore fault we could have scored twice.

He looked like a top 10 pick in his first NFL preseason game. Lot's of potential and lot's of mental errors.

All in all i'm extremely happy with what he showed in tonight's game. Not better than Moore, but at least we know he can play at a high level.

please provide examples...

I was also impressed with Koa Misi's game (never thought I would say that). Koa seemed to be making a lot of plays. New defense may be a good fit for him.

I was at the game - and Moore actually played a bit with the second stringers too. I think Moore looked just fine. Tanney looks very promising too, but as expected, people are prematurually jumping on start him now bandwagon over 1 preseason game against back ups.

Tannehill should start the season. It doesn't matter who he's playing against when the throws are so accurate and on time. The velocity and quick release were there to be seen as well.

Back shoulder throw to Pruitt, low TD pass to Wallace although dropped was placed perfectly, putting touch to drop a pass over coverage to Wallace, his throws were very inspiring and now he just needs to start and get experienced.

Regardless of his competition level the throws were very good and better than what any of the other QBs on the roster are capable of.

This is the same MM from last year. He sucks in practice sucks then the first few games he sucks. After a couple of ****ty games and he flashes a few hints of being a franchise QB. Enough is enough give it to the rookie make it his job to lose. We have to build around something not a stand in leader but a leader for the next ten seasons or so.
