Here are my thoughts and observations from the game.

1. We started slowly on offense. Seemed like we were playing to cautiously.

2. That missed TD catch by chambers looked like it was a harder catch to make than people give him credit for. C.pep really put some heat on that pass and chambers didn't see it until the last second.

3. The Oline needs alot of improvement run blocking. During the Carolina game I remember seeing dline men pouring through the line and hitting RB. It was no different tonight. Look to see teams trying to exploit this further in future games.

4. Wes welker showed he can be an effective player in this league. Like I read earlier, he is like a little Z. Thomas.

5. C.Pep will be fine. He seemed a little trigger happy during the first quarter and was throwing the ball earlier than he had to. By the second quarter you could see him gaining confidence and standing defiantly in the pocket. Good sign.

6. C. pep took alot of hits tonight. Glad to see that knee hold up. I had to hold my breath when he took that shot in the knees during the first half. Heck I didn't even like to see him get pushed in the end zone during that int. return.

7. Pass blocking by the o line was good overall. There was even a series when the oline picked up alot of Pitts blitzes. As a result, cpep started to hold the ball longer and make better throws.

8. The secondary is a big problem. Maybe they just had a bad game but I'm not feeling warm and fuzzy here. That hand to the face during that 3rd and 16 play was just plain bad. We could have used the extra time the ensuing drive ate off the clock.

9. Special teams seemed ok. I expect to see welker break one for a TD this year.

10. even without Ben. We played a very tough team in a very tough stadium. Parker is going to be a beast, the steelers dline is already nasty and they have a great secondary. Steelers still have what it takes to go all the way.

I will admit I was upset having to watch my fins meltdown during the 4th but after getting over it I think we played very well considering what we where up against. I still expect great things from the fins this year.

Its only one game. don't give up already.

There were alot of good thing we did in the game. I guess some people just want to complain bc we lost.

Considering that we just played the champs and could of won the game in the fourth, I would say it was a step forward. This season is long and anything can happen. How many teams have lost 2-4 games in the beginning and went on to win the division and make the playoffs.

Only main concern is the secondary. they need to get in Sync. the line seemed to do well at times. I think they will click as the season progresses.

The secondary and O-line were the primary concerns in the off season and not surprisingly, they’re the primary concern after game one.

I think our secondary will get better with the return of Daniels and hopefully Jason Allen will eventually crack the starting lineup. Overall, I don’t think they played that badly in this game. Stupid penalties and some blown coverage did them in. Of course any optimism has to be tempered by the fact that the QB was Charlie Batch, but it’s way too early to proclaim the secondary a bust.

Unfortunately, I’m not quite so optimistic with our OL but once again, we need to give them some time. Houck may be a great OL coach but there’s no substitute for talent.

Yes, i feel the oline showed some promise last night. THe where times when the provided cpep with alot of time to throw the ball.

My take from the game:

Our OL isn't any good, our QB is overrated, our secondary sucks. This is no SB team.

last night #$%$#%$#%$

Who the hell looks at the replays up stairs for the Dolphins.

1.The first Touchdown drive for the Steelers it was 3 and 3 or 4 that pass hit the ground but they called it a catch. Touchdown should of never happened. Whats going on with the Replay reviewer for the phins :fire:

2. They told Saban to challenge the second touchdown to late or Saban took his time when he threw the flag and no one saw him. :shakeno:

I think the officials were more on the steelers side they made alot of holds I saw that they didnt call they called everthing on the phins. :refuse:

But then again our defense at times played good but they got ran over but Parker. Our D needs to pla better our O needs to block. :dolphins:

over all we can only get better

SirDrums,

Good observations...but I need to ask you...do you really think that this team will be "ok" if 1) we can't run block? and 2) we can't stop the opposing team on 3rd and long?

I'm a little worried...C-PEP in my opinion was trying to hard to win the game with his arm and made 2 very costly mistakes...IMO this does not happen if the Fins O-LINE knew how to run block and open up some wholes for R. Brown.

This concerns me ALOT...and I'm usually optimistic.

Please explain to me how you think this will change or how they will get better...I think its the personnel....that's a problem.

I need this website and to talk to other FinFans after a loss like this because...it sucks!!!

Go Fins!!!

You have a good RB, a good WR and a good TE and none of them were involved in the game. You guys will have a tough season unless somebody knocks some sense into Mularkey.

1.) We have to remember we played the SB champs. From what I saw last night, they still are the champs. The pitts dline is very good. So was Carolinas. I think we need to hold judgment until we have a stretch of games against 'normal' lines and not 'best in the league' type lines. Not all the teams we will play against will have lines that solid. Ronnie will have a great year.

2.) I’m concerned about this too. There where a few additional plays that we could have got burnt on but the QB didn’t pick up on. I hope with Daniels back things will be better.

I think cpep was a bit gun-shy during the first quarter. The last time he played in a regular season game, his knee blew up. So when the d came at him full speed, its only natural to want to get the ball out of there quickly. But as the game when on and the online started doing an ok job at pass blocking, he became more confident and stayed in the pocket longer.

This concerns me ALOT...and I'm usually optimistic.

Remember this was only the first game. The first game against the defending SB champs at their stadium. We will get better as the season goes along, if this is the worst we will play all ear then I'm very excited.

I think I know what play you are referring to......and it was a catch. The ball did hit the ground.....but the receiver had control of it when it did and kept control......I thought incomplete at first.....but you could see clearly in the replay that he had it.

The call did seem to come down late......but the reason Saban "took his time" in throwing the flag looked to be because he was waiting to get someone's attention......so that they would in fact see that he threw it. If he threw it immediately, no one was looking....so they still wouldn't haven't seen it. IMO, the system is flawed that the coach is expected to run 20 yards on to the field to get a ref's attention....ther should be someone (perhaps someone in the officiating booth) who is resonsible to watch for the red flag.

refs were definately not the problem last night......I didn't like the P.I. call, but we got away with earlier that could have easily been called, so that was wash.

I think that the hands to the face penalty was a little ticky-tack.....but you could clearly see that he did make contact to the head. IMO - that penalty should NOT be an automatic first down.

They didn't exactly get run over by Parker......he averaged just under 4 yards per carry......the 32 yard run was bad, but a quick slashing back like Parker is gonna get a few like that (just ask Seattle). Overall, I was pleased with our rushing defense against one of the better rushing teams in the league. Pass D does need to improve. Blocking was just ok....but a great Steeler defense had a lot to do with the line looking lackluster.

Good post, we'll be fine. We need a few games to gel, but we should still make the playoffs this year. Not the SB though, just not enough talent or depth on OL or secondary.

I agree, the game really was good. For the Dolphins to come that close to winning against the Super Bowl champs, they did a d*** good job. I haven't seen the Dolphins play that good in a long time. And don't complain, that's was just the first game, we have plenty more. The Dolphins are headed straight to the playoffs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
