Well here we go. You're going to hear me repeat myself on a few things....and I will end with the best part of the whole day which coincidentally happened right after I got there. It involves our favorite South Fl reporter. We'll get to that in due time.
Here's what I saw today:
Tannehill- I am going to repeat myself and guarantee everyone reading this that you will see a different leader this season. Do not be surprised if you see him in receivers and RB's faces if they don't do their job...ala Marino style. He is like an asst coach out there. Pulling players aside during 11 on 11 when the 2's were in and directing them. Even with Landry.
I'm telling you that what you hear from Gase about their connection is 100% accurate. When Ryan goes to the water cooler, Gase goes with him. When a drill ends Gase is right there walking with him to the next drill. My nephew even commented that they look like "BFF's". "when you want to know where Gase is, just find Tannehill...he'll be within 5 feet of him". It's that much. He threw a poor pass that Michael Thomas laid out for and caught but for the most part was pretty sharp. The O won most today. They appear to be calling mostly short stuff on purpose, and nothing ground breaking. I believe their holding things close to their vest.
Now, for the best part of the day. Just before practice was about to begin we walked down to the fence and I ended up standing right behind Omar. You'll see in the pic I'll post, a bit of an "exchange" between Gase and Omar. Gase appeared to walk up to him with purpose, which you can see in the pic he is right up on him. It was not like he was yelling at him and it was hard to make out exactly what he was saying bc the music had started and was quite loud....but I just got a sense from his body language and the look on his face that he was making sure that Omar knew he was not afraid to get in his face. He was eye locked on Omar and very close to him and all I heard was "OK, can you do that?" "can you?" and all I could hear from Omar was "well it wasn't exactly like that but...." and he couldn't keep eye contact with Gase. There was no hand shake at the end of the discussion.
Then you'll see the pic where I was standing like I wasn't listening as he talked to whoever that guy is about how Moreno was just the "best RB". How he was fat and lazy, until the game started and then became a F'n beast. In person he is just as pompous and in love with himself as he appears on twitter.
So that's it. I may have picked up some other things that I didn't mention so feel free to ask. Did I mention these guys are massive???
Here's what I saw today:
- Let me again start out by reiterating how huge these guys are. You can't really appreciate it until you're 2 feet from them. You'll see from the pictures I put (yet you still can't really tell from a pic) that you gain a greater appreciation for what these guys do to become an elite athlete in this league. I'm not a little guy....6 feet 230 pounds, and when Arian got up by me doing drills all I could think was "there is no way I would want that guy coming at me in full stride". I was standing at the fence and Whalen came across a little too quick on a drill and I had to help stop him from slamming in to the half fence and I was shocked at how menacing even he looked coming at you.
- Ajayi- today really made it seem like he will be the starter. He got the majority of the looks and a lot of carries. Unless they just have decided they know what they have with Foster and they're really looking at Ajayi. Having said that, I commented during last season that he looked sluggish and slow, but that was not the case these two days at camp. He is decisive, strong and quick. Best play of the day was a 40 yard pass from RT perfectly over the D that he layed out for and came up with the catch. The whole place came alive.
- Dallas Thomas- well....I'll say this, when the OL is working alone he moves very well. Unfortunately he turns into a tackling sled when someone lines up against him. In drills Jordan Phillips walked him back 8 yards like it was just a hobby. Even Chris Jones threw him aside embarrassingly. Maybe the few plays that he does good is keeping him alive but he lost some reps today to Tunsil.
- Tunsil- He got a lot of work today. With the 1's 2's and 3's. I believe that they are just truly making him earn his place. He is so obviously better. He did a very solid job today. He had some hiccups but in that same drill he did not give up a single sack. Thomas gave up like 3 out of 4. He moves very well and does not appear like the task is intimidating to him at all. When his number gets called he runs to the huddle, and the line like he's ready to rock. He was in a lot today and was up to the task.
- Grant- I'm sure that NRA is going to start creaming his pants....but I don't see any scenario that this kid isn't on the 53. He's just way too electric and explosive. He did have a couple drops today but they were overshadowed greatly by his elusiveness and speed. Made some great catches in traffic and turned them all up field. There's just not going to be anyone that will catch him if he gets on top, or any where near it. He is just THAT fast!! And he does not give up on anything. Full effort, full heart and full go on every play. He does not know that he is the smallest guy on the field. Another WR caught the ball and he immediately started laying wood to every DB he could find. He and Cruz fielded every punt and kick off except for one instance when they had Whalen take I think only one kick off.
- Landry- Just WOW! The more you watch him you just can't help but get jacked up. I mean this guy just does not see the difference between practice and game time. He is pure heart and passion. He drinks out of the water bottle like he wants it to know he is the bad a** in the equation. Every body just livens up when he gets the ball bc they know he isn't going to stop, and they appear aware....just in case he tries to run them over.
- Caroo- he stood out today. 11 on 11 with the 2's on O and 1's on D. I think it was only 3 plays, all to him....50-60 yards, resulting in a TD. He looks like he's going to be hard to tackle. Big big guy. Really does resemble Boldin out there.
- Wake- I truly believe they need to have him tested to verify that he is not from a superior race on another planet. Nobody...and I mean NOBODY could stop him. It becomes laughable that when the ball moves he is in the backfield before they know what happens. They double him on every single play, even in drills. He is a man among boys.
- DVP- nothing glaring today but he looks perfectly fine. He is moving fast and his hands were spot on. He stands a head above everyone else. Very impressive.
Tannehill- I am going to repeat myself and guarantee everyone reading this that you will see a different leader this season. Do not be surprised if you see him in receivers and RB's faces if they don't do their job...ala Marino style. He is like an asst coach out there.
