We are a few days away before the Franchise tag deadline. There is a player out there up in the air, and if he doesn't get Franchised, he's the best tackle on the market.

Jordan Gross.

Maybe the front office is waiting to see if he gets tagged, and if he doesn't they will spend a little bit more money on Gross and possibly secure the best tackle duo in football.

I think Vernon Carey is looking for money that would be along the lines of what Jordan Gross wants.

If Gross was off the market, the Dolphins would probably up the offer if they really wanted Carey.

Just my opinion.

On a side note:

Did anyone see the quote in the forum, saying basically:

"the top five offensive tackles in this years draft aren't in the same category as Jake Long last year" pretty awesome to hear that.

That's homerism basically...

Jake Long hasn't even proven to be the best left tackle in his own draft yet...

Ryan Clady and Chris Williams were better "pure" left tackle prospects than Long IMO...Clady proved he's every bit as good last season...

There are two left tackles in this draft that could wind up being as good as either in terms of upside...

But I think you're on to something reguarding Carey and Gross...

You're joking me with Chris Williams, right? He shouldn't even be mentioned in the class of Jake Long and Ryan Clady. Ryan Clady had a solid year but Jake Long was by far the best Rookie Tackle last year.

Not joking at all...

Long wasn't anywhere near BY FAR better than Ryan Clady....

Clady has the edge in any statistical category you want to go by...

Chris Williams was just as athletic, better feet, and gave up the same amount of sacks as Long did in college (2) but faced much better speed and opposition week in and week out in the SEC...

I hope your right, but I am nervous. We can not afford to have to rebuild are line again. If we did not sign either tackle we will have an 8-8 record at best in my opinion.

I'll go with the Dolphins waiting for Gross to set the market but I dont believe they are looking to sign him. They dont want to overpay for Carey.

Makes about as much sense as anything I've read on this site in a while. As for Jake, we drafted the right guy.

I wouldn't spend that much on Gross, a guy used to playing LT and then we switch him to RT? I doubt the FO would do that.

Very good assessment of the situation. I agree with it. Very good point.

Actually, being that MIA's best rushing average was using the Wildcat Formation (which happened to switch Jake Long to the RT...plus Long played RT in the Pro Bowl and did just great)....I wouldn't be surprised if they signed Gross to play LT and slide Jake Long to RT, where he is a premier run blocker...like he did in the Wildcat formation...

Thats a joke did you watch how much long improved this o-line. Clady had a solid season, but no where near the run blocker Jake Long is. Chris Williams isn't even close to long. The reality is Long is already a top 10 LT, and has a very good chance to be the best LT in the nfl very soon.

Gross has played both LT & RT for Carolina. He's kinda like Carolina's version of Vernon Carey. Since being drafted in 2003, Gross has never played the same side in consecutive years.

get the **** out of here with that chris williams ****.
It is absolutely sick to hear someone can think about mention Chris Williams In conjunction with Jake Long, etc. Chris Williams who was mentioned earlier in this thread of someone is not even near the vicinity of something special. It's just my opinion.

Vernon was the player I saw we most need to extend in between him and Crowder. So really, I hope we continue to throw some money at him before it is too late.
We can, as many others have mentioned several times not spend another year or so to build a new line up. It will just cost us too much too do. And we can not risk loosing both of them. The interest in Gross is probably bigger than just us alone, so it's a harder decision than might many thinks.

I would play on the safe one. And get Carey locked up for the future.
