Boredom can drive a person to many things…in this case boredom left me to making a mock draft…..I know there are two weeks left but making mocks are always fun….and the boredom led me into making this one..im kind of predicting the next two weeks and that’s where im getting my order from (i.e. Houston beating san Fran and going to pick no. 5 based on strength of schedule…) so here are my picks…(no Vince young mind you…)
1. (2-12) SF – Reggie bush – RB – USC
No need to elaborate….. (Bush + gore = trading Barlow for a pick)
2. (3-13) GB – Mario Williams - DE – NC ST
could go with either him or AJ hawk, but I believe that Williams will be too good to pass up, and he will come in, start opposite KGB and help out the horrible secondary wit ha monster pass rush
3. (3-13) NYJ – Matt Leinart – QB – USC
More for simplicity sake than anything…..they will most likely end up taking brooks or rivers or even Volek as a backup to Pennington, but for simplicities sake put him here, either way, they need some insurance for Pennington
4. (3-13) NO – AJ hawk – OLB - OSU
Patrick Ramsey or Billy Volek…..2006 New Orleans saints starting QB. They take the BPA and boost their defense tremendously
5. (3-13) HOU – Dbrickshaw Fergusson – OT - UVA
Houston wins (or loses you could say) the Bush Bowl and the SOS drops them here, in perfect spot to take their stud OT of the future….
6. (4-12) AZ – Haloti Ngata – DT – ORE
The cardinals disappoint again...needing help on both the offensive and defensive lines, and failing to find an OT worthy of the pick, they take Ngata, and the run defense becomes top 10 in the league already...
7. (4-12) OAK – Chad greenway – OLB - IOWA
Desperately need LB help…… DESPERATELY….nothing else needs to be said
8. (5-11) TEN – Winston justice – OT - USC
Tennessee looked competitive at times, but were outmatched most of the time….they need help on both lines, but they opt to take someone to protect McNair/ Volek….
9. (5-11) BUF – Eric Winston - OT - UM
Need help at Both OT and DT (recurring theme)….no elite tackles minus Ngata, so they opt for Winston here (Eric Winston blocking for Willis McGahee gives him the minor edge over other OT’s…UM connection)
10. (5-11) CLE – Demeco Ryans – OLB - ALA
Crennel needs stud LB’s to perfect his system, so they take the best available OLB
11. (5-11) DET – Mathias Kiwanuka – DE - BC
Fire Millen!!!! Then draft Kiwanuka, picking up an immediate help in the pass rush, helping out hall, and assisting the Lions young defense
12. (6-10) STL – Jimmy Williams – CB - VT
Bottom 5 in the league in pass defense…take a corner that will immediately help you in the secondary…
13. (7-9) PHI – Santonio Holmes – WR - OSU
lol the pick that’ll get the worst reaction…..no TO Leaves the eagles with Pinkston, Lewis and brown….hell actually be the BPA, and with no real elite prospects on the Defensive lines, Holmes would fit nice…… Other viable option would be Paul Pozluszny
14. (7-9) BAL – Rod Wright – DT - TX
Give Boller one more year? Lol Idk, but I think a QB here would be a reach for the Ravens here, and I think getting a big DT for the new 46 defense would help…could take an OT here too…
15. (8-8 ) MIA – Jay Cutler – QB - VAND
Homerism….Gus Frerotte or Sage Rosenfels, one or the other, could stay and assist cutler for a year before it becoming his team the year after. Cutler rises up since there is no viable second QB, and the dolphins take him. SEC guy....
16. (9-7) ATL – Michael Huff – FS/CB - TX
OT, FS, or Dline could go here, but their safeties are real bad. I say they reach for a Safety here, and huff might possibly play Dline
17. (9-7) MIN – Deangelo Williams – RB - MEM
Bennett will be gone; Onterrio smith might be cut after the whizzinator? And Fason isn’t the answer…..Moore and Williams could share the load…Williams is a more refined pick than Maroney IMO
18. (9-7) KC – Jesse Mahelona - DT - TEN
(Or anyone who can actually tackle…) need someone one defense…LBs are fine with bell and Williams, secondary could use help, but not as much as the defensive line. They take someone to clog up the middle and help out those LBS behind him
19. (9-7) DAL – Marcus McNeil – OT - AUB
Wow, can Bledsoe have even 2 seconds in the pocket? McNeil would help them in a weak part of their game
20. (10-6) DEN – Derek Hagan – WR (pick from WAS) - AZST
rod smith is about 145 years old…..Ashley Lelie is about as close to a bust as you can get…..in a weak WR class they get the no.2 WR with Washington’s pick
21. (11-5)CAR – Marcedes Lewis – TE - UCLA
Their defense is solid and only injuries stop it from being a top flight defense. The panthers pick up another offensive weapon to assist Delhomme and get some pressure of Steve smith
22. (11-5)TB – Jon Scott – OT - TX
Same as Dallas…..NE killed poor Simms, and they’ll get a great OT to block for caddy and to give Simms protection for the future
23. (11-5) NYG – Orien Harris – DT - UM
a dynamic offense, and a defense coming into its own. With Strahan and Uminyora dominating, they get a DT to assist. Both defensive tackles for the giants have been sub par at most…..Harris will help in pass and run defense.
24. (11-5) JAX- Tye hill – CB - CLEM
Jacksonville has one NFL caliber CB…..this should be an easy choice, they pick up the best available CB
25. (11-5) NE – Laron Landry – FS - LSU
NE solidifies their secondary with a rising star in Landry….
26. (11-5) SD – Darnell Bing – FS - USC
Secondary needs help…pass defense might be one of the only weak points of this team, and a ball hawk like Bing would help them out immensely
27. (11-5) PIT – Lawrence Maroney/ /Tamba Hali
Pittsburgh might want to get younger on the Dline, and Hali could help in that. Not exactly too sure if he could fit as a 3-4 end, actually pretty sure he cant, but if he could then he’d go here. If not, then I don’t see how the Steelers can pass on an RB to help parker carry the load next year with the bus most likely retiring and Staley most likely on his way out..
28. (12-4) CHI – Vernon Davis – TE/WR - MD
this kid will become Rex Grossman’s best friend….fast enough to play WR, big enough to be a dominant TE…
29. (12-4) DEN – Broderick Bunkerly – DT - FSU
How long do you think the browns Dline is going to hold up? Honestly…..insurance that it wasn’t a fluke, and pick up a good DT that falls in the later rounds to them
30. (13-3) CIN – Claude Wroten – DT - LSU
The Bengals have been in need of a stud DT since Daryl Gardner’s injury, and Wroten has the potential to be just that. He’ll add a pass rush and improve the secondary that much more with the added rush
31. SB - SEA – Ahmad brooks – OLB - IOWA
Take the best available LB and brooks falls right to them at the end of the round
32. SB - IND – Paul Posluszny – OLB - PSU
Take the best LB available and possibly the BPA. The super bowl champs try and bolster their defense with a good LB.
And of course for kicks and giggles why not put in a mock for the rest of the rounds for dolphins picks….
1) QB Cutler as u saw
2) OT Andrew Whitworth…..LSU guy….big offensive tackle who could give depth and potentially contend for a starters spot
3) DT Kyle Williams…..another LSU guy…lol…..one of the top 5-7 DTS in the draft, from LSU, Saban could help bring him along…..need a young DT to help out Wright and Vickerson for the future…..
With Poole coming back I think we should try and fix the secondary through FA, sign a good CB to the team, and maybe hope one falls to the 3rd….I would love a young guy like Jason Allen or will Blackmon, but a veteran would help solidify the position….well tell me what you guys think of the draft in general and the dolphins picks too….
1. (2-12) SF – Reggie bush – RB – USC
