Now I KNOW that you all will not agree with me on half of this stuff, and im pretty sure no one will 100% agree with me. But here's what I think:
1. Do NOT draft Jay Cutler. Taking Him 16th overall is not a wise move. Miami should take eithier MICHAEL HUFF out of Texas, JONOTHAN SCOTT, also out of Texas, or WINSTON JUSTICE out of USC. They should then proceed to select a QB rpelacement in the 2nd round, maybe later.
2. Sign a veteran QB to teach the rookie the ropes. I think JON KITNA or STEVE MCNAIR would be decent choices, even trying Sage wouldn't be terrible. This is the Cincinatti approach, and look how Palmer turned out. If you don't want get a veteran, use the Eli Manning Approach and give the rookie the team, and wait for results. Saban is a smart man, he won't do that.
3. Sign key Free Agents like OG STEVE HUTCHINSON out of Seattle. Paying for somone like CB NATE CLEMENTS wouldn't be a terrible idea eithier. QB JOSH MCCOWN may be worth the money, as Mularkey likes to have mobile QBs, and Mccown is young, and decently mobile. JERRY AZUMAH and JAMAR FLETCHER are cheaper options.
4. Make way for the young-sters like TRAVIS DANIELS, WILL POOLE, CHANNING CROWDER and MATT ROTH. They all have a ton of potential to help out this team.
5. Make way for Wes Welker. IMO, he has a lot of potential. He isint afraid to go over the middle, and his hands are solid. Hes quick, smart, and a great route runner. Definately should be in there on all 3 WR sets.
With this approach, your line is very good, with Hutchinson and Scott or Justice added. Secondary improves, and the young guys help out an aging D. Also, with someone like Mccown or Mcnair at the helm with a good running attack and strong O-Line, it doesnt take a miracle worker to make plays. Instead of looking at our offseason as "let's get the franchise QB", think of it as "Lets fix our faults, get a QB that will get the job done and can develop into a great starter".
I probably am forgetting stuff, and i know .04% of you here will actually find this smart, and ill get about 200 replies mocking me or with one specific part quoted with a ":sidelol:" under it, but these are my opinions. Im not the coach, so it doesnt matter, but i just thought id share.
