When i hear about the hire i was somewhat relieved that we had some one to evalute and pick our talent. Which was something Jeff Ireland was unable to achieve. The new gm will be scrutinized by a lot of fans because of the situation in Tampa. I like the fact that he does have experience. Tthe Tampa team does have some good talent, after all they did beat this Miami team. I think Tampa's situation really comes down to the game plan and the coaching. I think Philbin can get over the hump and produce a winning product with a gm that will give him what is best for the team. Unlike Ireland who grab anyone and pay them stupid amounts of cash for lack luster product. I am pretty much numb, and have been for a long time. It is one of those the year ends in depression and July starts the excitement. I think this year i will play the wait and see and just hope it gets put together amidst the circus that is surrounding this team in the media. I do think this team is 10 good solid players away from being a force to to break ten wins. With free agency and and a decent draft this team could be a different and more exciting team. Time will tell, and we shall see.

Your opinion is just as valid as anyone else's. Law of averages says that something good is going to happen with this team. Go Dolphins!

Is Hickey a believer in advanced metrics/statics?

While I'm excited to see what Hickey can do, and how he will "advance" this team, I am disapointed in the way the GM process went down.

I will not stand here and bash Hickey for I know nothing about him or his plans besides his record as VPPP for the Bucs. I will say that the guy stuck with the Bucs for 14 or so years, for someone to hang that long to a job in the NFL he must of been doing something right.

I am also disapointed the media jumped on Ross and the Dolphins as the "fat girl at the dance" for offering the job and getting rejected multiple times as if we are infected when in reality..... Ross stood for his HC and made it clear he would not cut ties with Philbin for now. While this drove many GM's away, I think this easily paints Ross as a true team guy that stands by his staff and is not too quick to cut ties because of media pressure etc.....

HC's and GM's will take note. Look at the Browns who chopped Chuz after 1 year. Guy didn't have time to arrange his own players, etc....

I would much rather have a owner who gives "fair" opportunity to a HC/GM rather than pull out the six shooter at the slightest sign of panic and danger.

I don't know enough to have a valid opinion on the hire. I do, to say that 10 players away is silly. JMO

My opinion is I'm cautiously neutral for now.

I will be praying heavily on that Thursday night.

I'm definitely disappointed in the way Stephen Ross once again couldn't close the deal and get his guy. It's pretty obvious that Dennis Hickey wasn't his first, second, or even third option.

However, I'm willing to give Hickey a chance, and most importantly, I'm excited to see what Lazor/Tannehill can do together next year. I feel like if our new OC can get Ryan to improve in key areas of his game (i.e. deep ball accuracy, pocket presence) our team will have a shot. If Ryan doesn't improve, if he continues to be inconsistent, our team will fail no matter how much talent Hickey brings.

But I'm optimistic about the Lazor/Tannehill combo. And I believe we'll focus 100% on fixing the OL, giving Ryan a chance to prove that he can be our QB for many years to come. Hopefully he's up for the challenge and we find out in 2014 that we finally have our franchise QB. But only time will tell.

My opinion is that this team needed to be cleaned, top to bottom. Ross not only kept Philbin, but it appears he was willing to keep Ireland in a lesser capacity. These are the reasons why we had to go down the list, and finally found somebody who WOULD TAKE THE JOB. That's a resounding failure any way you look at it.

That said, I also don't believe that Tampa is the organization we want to pilfer people from. They've been irrelevant since 2002, almost the same amount of time as this franchise. And while Tampa has hit on some draft picks lately, the last thing I read stated that Hickey was banned from the draft room since 09' which implies he had nothing to do with those drafts.

So, basically I have EXTREMELY low expectations for this team moving forward with the staff that is currently in place, I had low (compared to others) expectations for the past season (I predicted 8-8 back before the season began), and I have even lower expectations for this year.

If Hickey hits some kind of homerun in the draft and FA we end up with some elite players (not solid unspectacular starters) I'll be the first to line up and eat crow and say HALLELUJAH! I just don't expect that to happen, I really really don't and that sucks that I'm this low and the superbowl hasn't even been played yet. I guess I feel about the same way as I did when the Harbaugh thing failed and the meatball was given an extension and that flat out SUCKS

Where did you make up the 4 year ban from the draft room from?

Somebody posted in another thread that he had been disallowed in the Bucs draft room since 2009, can't remember where it was. Like I said, if true than this hire is worse than I thought, if not I still don't like the hire but at least there are some good drafts that he had some input on.

Nothing to do with the hire, just posting nonsense on the ban. Now that you said that you can't recall where you may have read it from a post is even worse. lol

NO, I clearly stated that it has been posted that he has been disallowed in the Bucs war room since 2009 - on other forums not just this one. I don't feel like googling right now, but I'm sure this will come up again in the upcoming weeks/months and I assure you I didn't "make it up"

But keep lol'ng genius if that makes you feel any better, K?
