Please be gentle since it is just my opinion only.
Quarterbacks
John Beck: While I would really like to see Beck win the starting job unless he settles down and finds a comfort zone the job may got to McCown by default.
Josh McCown: Really not much to say on McCown since he has played for several teams over the last few years and has been nothing special to this point in his career. If he wins the starting job by default it will only be to keep the seat warm until Henne is ready to step up after a year on the sidelines.
Chad Henne: Chad has looked pretty good so far in camp reports with the usual rookie mistakes. Looking down his receivers, mental errors, interceptions etc. But also from camp reports he has the strongest arm of all three and has appeared relaxed in the huddle. Unless Beck comes on strong, wins the starter job and has a decent season the starter’s job is Chad’s for the taking in next years training camp.
* To be totally honest I would like to see Beck win the job at least for this year since I really do not have an interest in watching McCown all season long. Henne may very well get the chance to play here and there during the season but I just have a hard time envisioning Sporano (Parcells) starting a rookie all year. I would also not be surprised to see another QB added to the roster before the season opener once training camp cuts start to be made.
Running Backs
Ronnie Brown: What more can you say about Ronnie after watching him tear it up the first 7 games last year and lead the league in yards from scrimmage. If Ronnie stays healthy he is a top 5 back in the league but therein lays the problem with Ronnie. He has yet to have an injury free season. Hopefully Sporano lets Ronnie ease himself back into the rotation this year to make sure there are no hiccups with his recovery from knee surgery.
Ricky Williams: To be honest it has taken until this year for me to finally stop being pissed at Ricky. I still do not completely trust him to stay clean but if he can, Ricky could have a HUGE season. He is in great shape, bulked back up, running with power and above all else he needs the cash.
Patrick Cobbs: I say he makes the final roster as he has done everything asked of him so far in camp and is fighting for his job in the NFL. Runs hard, catches well out of the backfield and is a good special team’s player. What more can you ask of him.
Jalen Parmele: So far Parmele has had his ups and downs in camp with catching the ball out of the backfield but he has shown some very nice running skills at this point. Jalen is also a bigger back this regime likes.
* I can’t see Lex Hilliard making the final roster although he could be stashed on the practice squad for a year for a further look.
Fullback
Boomer Grigsby: While I do like Mauia I think Grigsby wins the job for his versatility. Grigsby is a very good special team’s player and has been catching the ball out of the backfield better than Mauia.
* I would be surprised to see the coaching staff keep more than one fullback since it will probably go to keeping an additional TE..
Wide Receivers
Ted Ginn Jr.: The game is beginning to slow down for Ted although his legs have not. He has improved his route running this off season and I will be looking for him to at least double his receptions and yards from last year. Combine the dangerous speed to get open deep, reliable hands and his skills as a returner I have high hopes for Ginn this year.
Derek Hagan: So far Hagan has been the best looking wideout in camp and is catching everything thrown his way. Hopefully it continues into the season and we see much better production from him this year. If he starts to disappear again I would say it will be his final year in a Dolphins uniform.
Ernest Wilford: Not much production in camp so far but he is the biggest wideout we have and he has been a productive first down receiver and red zone threat for the Jags. I think we will see a lot more from Wilford once the games start.
David Kircus: So far in camp reports Kircus has actually been our best deep threat receiver and I think he makes the final roster.
Davone Bess: If Davone is not on the final roster I will be severely disappointed. Bess has great hands, is very shifty and has just been flat out reliable which is something I have not seen from a Dolphins receiver since Orande Gadsden or Wes Welker.
* This is still a weak spot on the team and I fully expect Ireland to bring in another receiver from roster cuts and to draft a receiver or two next year. There is some potential on the team but it is time for Ginn and especially Hagan to step up and be reliable playmakers’. I still have a funny feeling Mr. Bess is going to catch a lot of people by surprise this year. Jayson Foster or Selwyn Lymon and possibly both could find themselves on the practice squad
