Last time, I posted my opinion on what I believe will be the camp battle amongst our quarterbacks (To see that thread, please click here: http://www.finheaven.com/boardvb2/showthread.php?t=141739). Now I am doing running backs.

Running Backs -

Players that are a lock to make the team: Ronnie Brown, Sammy Morris

Players in danger of being cut/Practice Squad: Travis Minor, Kay-Jay Harris, Gerald Riggs Jr

Projected Battle(s) positions-

Kay-Jay Harris vs. Travis Minor vs. Gerald Riggs Jr.

My overview: I may be only 17 (Going on 18), I can still remember a time when we were just struggling to find stability to the running game. However, last year and this year, I think Saban made/is going to make cuts that he doesn't want to make. With Saban holding four running backs on the roster last year, two out of the aforementioned combatants will most win spots, unless Saban decides to go with just three.

As we all know, Saban prefers a nice a power running game. Riggs and Harris can provide that. However, Saban has spoke about Travis Minor being a change-of-pace back and a great special teams player (Which is important to have when you have an ST ace such as Gilmore defect to another team). However, Sammy Morris is that, and a much better runner. Kay-Jay Harris was said to improve quite a bit on special teams as well. In my humble opinion, if Kay-Jay Harris and Gerald Riggs Jr. can show immense ability on ST, they are the winners.

My predicted winner: Kay-Jay Harris and Gerald Riggs Jr. if Riggs have great ST ability, Kay-Jay Harris and Travis Minor if not.

Winners gets: Roster spot

Loser gets: Trip to free agency/Practice Squad

Running back is one of our most stable posistions even without Ricky Williams. It should be interesting to see who the number 3 is.

I think the most interesting posistion is DB. I believe it'll be:

CB: Will Allen
CB: Will Poole
FS: Jason Allen
SS: Renaldo Hill
Nickle: Travis Daniels

A lot can happen from now till September and it should be interesting to see how it pans out.

Yeah. I'm just going down depth chart little by little.

Gotcha, I don't think there will be too many battles this year. We have a pretty good foundation for the starting lineup this year. The best we've had in years.

Oh there will be a lot of battles. But very few of them will be for the starting spot.

Yeah that's what I was saying. Should be a great camp! Competition is very healthy and every team needs it in July.

Anyone have any info on the offensive line. What should it look like by the start of the season?

Right now, at this point, the biggest question competition will be at center. But for now, it looks like the same O-line, except LJ Shelton will be at Left Tackle.

1st: Ronnie
2nd: Sammie-I do not see us picking up a FA either. Sammie will hold it down. Lets not forget what he did in '04
3rd: Kay Jay

Practice or Europe: Riggs Jr

Cut: Minor

Yep, i said it. Every year we say Minor will get cut. He is the Jeff Zgonia of the offense but Saban has been saying some good things about KJ and his special teams play. Minor is not that good of a RB. I say KJ gets his nod and Minor is cut.

The starting lineup may round out roughly the same but you can bet there is gonna be some serious competition in the trench. None of these guys are all-pros but we have a lot of potential in this area. Who trades in potential for performance is the key issue.

I know. I'll outline that in the next thread in the next couple of days. I actually do some research when it comes to this.
