Here is my pregame report for tonights preseason "Hall of Fame Game."
Tell me what you think
The Miami Dolphins are rolling into Canton, Ohio, to take on the Chicago Bears, in the second preseason game of the season. Although it's preseason, this game is critical to new coach Nick Saban, as he tries to fill his depth chart.
In the 2005 NFL draft, the Dolphins selected runningback Ronnie Brown from Auburn, with the second overall pick. Just two picks later, the Bears selected runningback Cedric Benson from Texas. Neither Brown, or Benson will be playing in tonights game, they are both holding out.
This gives runningbacks Lamar Gordon from the Dolphins, and Thomas Jones from the Bears, the start. I think Thomas Jones will bust a few big runs, as he's competing for the starting job. Pro Bowl runningback Ricky Williams, will run good tonight. He has a lot to prove, and I think he will come out strong when he gets in, and he will be the runningback of the night. Ricky is competing against Gordon on the depth chart, for when he gets back from his 4-game regular season suspension.
Scouting the Dolphins
The QB competition begins tonight with starting QB A.J. Feeley. Veteran QB Gus Frerotte, is going to have to prove that he can still play, if he wan'ts to be the starter. I expect QB Sage Rosenfels, to play late in the game, I believe he can play, and he will look good. He is very underated, but he hasnt had much NFL expiriance.
WR Marty Booker, is lining up against his former team. Look for him and widerecievr David Boston to make some big catches tonight. Boston is coming back from injury, and steroid abuse. WR Chris Chambers will be covered most of the night by Jerry Azumah, who is coming off injury.
Look for Feeley picking the safties apart. Wheter slot reciever David Boston, or slot reciever Derrius Thompson is playing, they should have some miss match, and should be open.
On the defensive side of the ball, look for rookie Matt Roth from Iowa, to tear Rex Grossmans, head off. If Roth doesnt get the chance to, then you can count on veteran DE Jason Taylor, or Kevin Carter to do so.
Veterans Zach Thomas, and Junoir Seau, will play like normal, busting up the run, with an ocaisonal interception. Look for rookie Channing Crowder, to make his mark.
I really don't no what to expect from the Dolphins secondary. Look for Sam Madison, and saftey Lance Schutters, from the Titans, to pick one off. Watch for Tebuckey Jones, and Travis Daniels, in the second half.
Scouting the Bears
Look for Rex Grossman, comming off an injury, to force a few passes, early in the game. Look for Mushin Muhammed, going up against Sam Madison. I think that Mushin will make a few good catches.
On the defensive side of the ball, look for Adwale Ogunleye, playing against his former team. And look for Brian Urlacher, leaving his mark on Ricky Williams. Jerry Azuhmah, will have a couple of interceptions.
Tonights injuries
Every year a preseason game has a big injury. Here's the players that I think are probable of injury.
QB Gus Frerotte
RB Sammy Morris
WR Mushin Muhamed
CB Jerry Azuhmah
WR Derrius Thompson
Outcome
Miami Winning 28-17
