Now I know Gus isnt worth 4.3 Million or whatever he is slated to make BUT

Why should he have to restructure? He reached the incentives needed to earn that money, We made that contract knowing he could reach the based incentives and raise his contract value, He didnt drug Saban or the front office and slip clauses into the contract

Obviously he isnt worth that money, but we got ourselves into it

4.68 million cap number for a below average QB is too much.

i say saban gives him around 2 million instead of that.

and use some of the savings on ricky to give him an small increase in his salary to around 1-1.25 million.

Im not disagreeing its WAY WAY to much

But whats it saying that a guy can sign a contract, do what you ask him to do, reach the incentives and lose money?

I see where you're coming from. It almost seems unfair. But I guess that's the nature of the business. He'll get a little less than half of that or he'll go somewhere else and be lucky to get $1 mill per season.

He doesn't lose the money, he just helps the team spread it out over time for cap purposes.

Ok my take on this. I think he has to restructure because he really isn't all that good for that type of cash. Plus he really has nowhere else to go. Where else is he going to start. I think he has to face facts he is what he has always been a backup QB. As far as his incentives he gets that paid when he reaches a incentive that I imagine is separate from his base salary.

And I agree he isn't worth the cash which is probably why you are seeing us look at possible replacements and upgrading.

Your right

But my main point is this

Why did we put it in his contract if we knew he wasnt worth it and may get it?

Possibly because we were not really interested in resigning him anyways. I don't know. The only thing I can think of is maybe he is worth that kind of money is if he plays like Peyton Manning. Or maybe they thought that with Linehan here he would do better since he already knew the scheme.

Because it got him to sign.

i don't think that was it. He was a backup before. Whereas now he is a starter. Why not go where you can start. Yeah maybe flashing money helped but I do not think that was the biggest incentive.

He was brought in to compete against Feely for the starting position.

yes but this was the only chance he had to start anywhere or even compete for the role

So I think the starter theory still works

yeah and we all know what happened to AJ don't we. He got shipped out before season started. Because Saban did not want a Qb controversy. Why offer a guy a contract like that if he wasn't going to start.
