I will preempt with this:
"You don't make changes for the sake of changes. You make changes to have a better result."
And if you make major changes after 4 games and still have 12 games to go means that you believe that you have a better team than what we have seen so far.
Since Philbin (and his background on the offensive side of the ball) most likely did not interfere with Coyle bot had to go. Coyle because he is a screw up and Philbin for keeping him. So whoever comes in should get better production out of our defense. I think we are all pretty clear on that.
But our defense was not the only problem. Our offense was pathetic as well. We can blame right now whoever and whatever we want to (OL, RB, WR, QB, play calling etc) but we are looking at a new slate.
We all wondered about our predictive boring play calling. Some say it was because of the QB. Some say it was because our OL is bad and we can't do anything else. Some say it is Lazor's fault and he is useless as an OC and some say it was Philbin. But now we will find out why and how.
I am not fond of Cambell. He maybe a good head coach one day but I think that promotion comes to early especially if you consider that we still have 12 games to play. It is a different ball game firing your HC with three games to go signaling to HC candidates "hey, we have an opening at the end of the season".
But let's give Cambell a clean slate as well and wish him good luck.
Cambell comes from the offensive side. He knows who the culprits are for our pathetic showing this season. If he knows that it was Lazor he has to replace him. Otherwise we keep the status quo. But then who will replace Lazor then? Cambell does not have the connection nor the contacts. If he has to choose one his closest connection is Sherman. And if someone else picks an OC we have nothing but a scapegoat HC again.
But let's think positive: Let's say Cambell knows that Philbin strangled Lazor to the point of a predictive, boring, passive and pathetic offense rather than an exciting uptempo offense we were promised then Cambell should step back and let Lazor do what he does best (or should do best): hide our own weakness, play to our strength, tempo, unpredictable, balanced. And if Tannehill is it or not we also will find out rather quickly.
Either way I expect a major change on offense and defensive and I expect us to simply light the Titans up. We wanted the change. We needed the change. We got the change. And with 12 games still to go this is not just an experiment or a way to play out the season. It is time to change the season.
