I have been posting on this site for about a year and a half, but have been reading it for the better part of 4 years. I have seen some stories of people meeting Dan Marino and saying that he is kind of a jerk. This always amazes me because my expirence with Dan has been better than I could ever have imagined. Every year Dan Marino holds a celebrity golf tournement which had been held in Weston, but I believe has now been moved to West Palm Beach (but dont quote me on that). From 1998-2001 I attended every year and followed my idol around for all 18 holes. The first year i went i brought a football and some football cards. He signed my cards, the front of my program, threw me the football and afterwards signed it, and I got my picture taken with him. I talked to him, hungout and the following year he even remembered me as the kid from Wisconsin!!! It was probally the coolest thing ever. Now the first year i attended the event I went on a friday which is the day the players just get used to the course and it doesnt count. The following year I went on a Saturday which counts towards the final standings. The second year I went he wasnt as willing to sign autographs because he was concentrating on his golf game. He recognized me, and saw the picture of me and him that I had taken the previous year and he said once we hit the back 9 there wont be so many people around and then I will sign it. And he held up on his promise. I went back there the next two years and made sure to go on Friday because of his willingness to sign autographs. Every year he remembered me as the kid from wisconsin and I got his autograph 16 times over that period of time. Some of the best memories of life. I havent gone back there in six years cuz im so busy with school and dont make it down there as much and when I do I have been planning my trip so I can attend Dolphin games and the fins havent played in february in quite a few years (middle of February is when the event is usually held).
One more story to add. Popular belief aside Dan Marino and Boomer Easison are friends (I know I couldnt believe it when i heard it either)!!! Both have children with disabilities (I think Boomers kid also has autism but im not positive) and they attend each others fund raisers often. A friend of my family owns Johnsonville Brats and is very good friends with Boomer Easison. In December this year they are have a party to raise money for a childrens center in wisconsin for children with disabilities. Boomer Easison is attending and I heard about it. So I called the family asking them if i could get some tickets for the event and half joked that they should invite Dan Marino since his kid also suffers from autism. To my suprise they said they would ask around and talk to Boomer Easison. Just the other day I found out that Dan is attending the event!!! So they told me they would sit me at Dan's table. So I am going to be eatting dinner with my idol!!!
thought some of you would like to hear the story...if anyone else has some cool stories about meeting Dan you should add them...
